An entire clan of polygamists and nudists, lead by an all-powerful matriarchy. The Velvet Clan is notorious for its wanderings - born in Darkness in October 13, 2014 and then saw the Light on March 1 of 2015, only to get down with the Sickness on September 29, 2018. On January 26, 2020, the clan got a breath of fresh Air. After enjoying the carefree life in the skies for a time, the Clan found a Spark of inspiration on April 5, 2022. Two years of hard labor found the clan turning over a new leaf on May 10, 2024.

The Velvet Clan had its beginnings in the Tangled Wood, delighting in puzzles, lead by Dreamweaver (the First, of Shadows). In less than a year, Dreamweaver tired of winning and trickery, and the clan began learning from their neighbors to the West, and left behind the fleeting delight of games in favor of the lasting satisfaction of truth and logic.

TheEmpress, a glorious Skydancer born in the Light, became the figurehead of the clan, but Dreamweaver remained the true leader. Despite her diminutive size, all come to her for answers and guidance, due to her wisdom earned from her long years.

The Velvet Clan was content as scholars for many years, but it was not to last.

The changing nature of Sornieth and worlds beyond, birthed a great anger and ferocity in the Velvet Clan that turned them to warriors intent on surviving any upcoming troubles at all cost. This was a time of great upheaval, with many dragons departing for new clans or choosing to serve their new goddess directly. TheEmpress held power as regent until a new queen was churned forth from the great contagion.

The MasqueofRedDeath, a sanguine Mirror of tenacity and ferocity, claimed the title as the Velvet leader on her hatching day, and swiftly grew into the role, her appearance becoming gruesome and rotted as she lead the clan to victories. The clan was shocked when, not five months later, a new contender spilled out of the Wyrmwound, OneThousandEyes, a Mirror blessed by the Plaguemother with multigaze.

As a new era begins, the Clan feels wanderlust in their bones again. While the dual queens bicker over leadership, the other dragons, few of whom remember a time before the Plague flight, set their sights on the horizon for a new home. Dreamweaver, long dormant in the Rotrock Rest, is awakened to guide her Clan once more. She, along with TheEmpress, TheMasqueofRedDeath, and OneThousandEyes gather to discuss the future of the Velvet Clan. As they sense the winds of change begin to blow, the queens think they may just know what adventure to go on next - but who to lead them?

After more than a full month of waiting, three very different babies hatched out from the bamboo, each gifted with unique strengths. Once again the Velvet Clan found themselves with multiple rulers - this time, not in argument, but in agreement. Stranger still, two queens, the other a king, the first after four matriarchs.

The hatchlings impressed the older, wiser dragons, and each has a small entourage of advisors. Cunning Aquila is guided by her parents Radioactive and Veov and a first-generation Nocturne, born on the first Night of the Nocturne. Diplomatic Notus takes his counsel from Malachite, one of the oldest dragons in the clan, and Malachite's mate, Shenron. Determined Zephyra, born with wings too weak to fly, uses a pair of mechanical wings to navigate the Twisting Crescendo and listens only to her mother, Delilah.

The three Wind children, Aquila, Notus, and Zephyra, began, like their predecessors before them, to tire of the demands of rule, as it really cut into their having fun time, and after discussing with their advisors and the former queens, stepped down as one. The Clan agreed that it had been idle for too long and yearned for more ambitious climes, and decided to move East to the Shifting Expanse to work on something... new. And get down to business.

The Velvet clan weighed their options for a new ruler, and it took four months for a serious contender, Baiame, to become candidate for the role of Chief Executive Officer, and another month for the former C suite to come to an agreement on the appointment, but no other candidates stepped forward so she got the job.

Baiame got the clan focused on building wealth through hard work and the clan's hoard saw incredible returns after the first year of being in the Lightning flight. The clan had welcomed members of the new ancient breeds but nothing quite shook the Velvet clan like the sudden and dramatic crash landing of the Astrolab. As three of these curious scientists joined the team, Baiame appointed Stardust and Stargazer as Chief Operating Officer and Chief Information Officer, respectively, to diversify and synergyze the shifting demographics of Sornieth (Baiame had found she'd gotten quite a knack for corporate speak and was hoping the Boss would notice).

After two years of labor, breaking their backs in the dry waste of the Shifting Expanse for a Boss that never quite noticed their efforts, Malachite, the Velvet clan's oldest member, older even than the clan's originator, Dreamweaver, revisited her ancestral home in the Viridian Labyrinth. There, she met the newly awakened Auraboas and their strange sense of time and community. Malachite returned home (with several new lair mates in tow) to bring news of her travels.

Stories of the lush greenery and freedom from the daily grind that lay beyond the desert boundaries soon found the Velvet clan shedding their ties and power suits and running off into the wild.

Baiame was happy enough to take an early retirement and conferred with her COO and CIO as to who to next lead the clan. One of the newest additions, Fortunato, a first generation Auraboa, took on the responsibility of acting as the branch between her new family and the Behemoth.
