The Hewn City is home to many mysteries, its decaying structures and shade-touched soil baring little for the bravest adventurers that wander through it. On its outskirts, some of the strange darkness can be abated, and this is where the Fractured Athenaeum rests, a library and reliquary long since abandoned by the dragons that once called the city home. Over time, a host of vagabonds and strangers have come to call the sizable building home, taking root within its crumbling halls and reclaiming the land from the dread Shade that still haunts the area.

As a temporary home for the adventurers who seek fortunes or secrets within the streets of the City, the Athenaeum sees many visitors. A few of the longer-term residents have set up a shoppe of sorts - filled with oddities and trinkets both magical and non-, acquired from both the Hewn City itself, and the other ten planes of Sornieth. In addition, there are mercenaries and mages alike willing to accompany those less foolhardy souls looking to traverse the City - for a price, of course. Whatever the intentions of those who step within the once-hallowed halls, all are welcome save those who would seek to undo the work that the dragons of the Fractured Athenaeum have wrought.
