How much treasure you get depends on the level they have. Say you buy an adult dragon for 6-7k treasure from the AH. Then you train it to level 6-7 and exalt them. That gives you around 10-12k treasure. That means you make a profit of 4-6k per dragon.
It's basically a way to release a dragon. (lore wise they join one of the gods in the dominance wars) You get some money from it, depending on the dragon's level, that's why it is the main source of income for a lot of players :)
