Mantekrea's Clan

Deep within the ash plains of the Blacksand Annex is a low rugged mountain, and nestled within is the Clan of the Crimson Scar. The mountain was formed long ago by a great upheaval in the flat plains, torn apart and thrust back together, creating a tiny mountain range with a fissure down its length. The area is rich in iron, coating the fissure in rust, giving the appearance that a great claw wounded the mountain.

The early days of the clan were very different from today. Today the clan has gardens, forests and rivers all carefully protected and managed to feed the clan. Before this, they had to hunt, scavenge and steal. They would raid caravans, local clans and beastclans just to survive. This led to fewer caravans and neighbors, luckily, the Scar does not much rely on trade, but it does require the clan to travel farther to sell their wares at a fair price.

The clan holds a large territory, a combination of wanting to be far from others, the lack of prey and plants in the ash fields, and few trying to encroach. The Ash Striders patrol the borders and are chosen for their talent in hiding and tracking within the featureless plains.

Due to the hardships this deep in the ash, all clan members hold a position within the Legion. The Legion is the standing army of the Scar, only called to action in the most dire of circumstances. Never once has the Legion been called, but they stand ready.
