The Deep Ocean Silence

In the eyes of the people, in the safety of the people
OOC

Sorneith is currently under the control of a tyrant, whose only goal seems to be keeping his hold on the throne and Sorneith secure. He commands a large army of dragons who go out and do his biding, which range from mass killings to more private ones.

Unpredictable, many dragons have suffered under his wrath. Whether it is through the slaughter of a village or the burning of institutes he deems "rebellious", dragons of old and young have found themselves with nothing at a moment's notice.

In the midst of this misery, organizations appear in order to take advantage of the situaton. Oftentimes, they are blackmailers, ensuring saftey at the cost of those they are protecting. Others develop as black market traders, offering services that are outlawed. Some are mercenaries for hire that work for the tyrant or the other guilds. Others are assassins.

A small band of assassins, known as the Silence to those who have met their fates at the end of their claws, have sworn to dispose of the corrupt in order to eventually destroy the regime themselves. Led by a calm and peaceful Guardian, who has taken this guild as her charge, the Silence hope to vanquish their enemy and turn Sornieth into a peaceful place.

But with their killings comes power and money.

And with power and money comes corruption.

The last dull and dirty beacon of hope is fading. And there is little that can be done about it.

Guidelines
  • Dragons can technically live forever, as their body continuously creates new cells.
  • Dragons may have children indefinitely after sexual maturation.
  • Dragons are not bound by their specific Flight magic, but stigmas still arise.
  • Dragons have a magical reserve that can be depleted
  • Dragons can learn multiple magics, though it takes a long time to master multiple magics.
  • Technology is practically non-existent and magic replaces most of the roles technology would usually take.
  • The tyrant has been ruling for over a century at this point.
  • The Silence has not numbered more than 150 dragons at a time in their entire existence.
  • The Silence have a base known only as the Reef. On the surface, it looks like a small three story building. In reality, it has extensive rooming underneath in the form of extensive tunnels and caves.

Ranks in the Silence

OVERSEER OF THE SILENCE
The one who began the Silence. She oversees all that happens within the Silence and dishes out missions. She gets the final say in accepting, killing, and promoting dragons. She will kill off those she believes are traitors and promote those she believes worthy.
Even though she does not go out on missions much anymore, she still understands the trauma that can come with completing your first killing and is especially kind to those that have had rough backgrounds, as she understands their pain.

GENERAL
In charge of the various factions within the Silence, the generals must report directly to the Overseer. They are hand-picked by the Head herself and are kept under her close eye, in case any of them turn against her. They must have been in the Silence for at least 10 years to be promoted to this position
They have the final say in mission parties, though they must always submit a copy of who went where to the Head. They are expected to keep those that train the apprentices in line and make sure that whoever is brought into the Silence meets with the Head.
They only go on top-priority missions.

COMMANDER
Commanders oversee a group of assassins, usually five or six. They make sure the assassins are not becoming lazy and also make sure that they are well fed.
Commanders help organize missions by putting together teams they feel will work best together, then offer these teams to the generals, who will then review and approve them. They go out on missions that are deemed dangerous.

ASSASSINS
There are several types of assassins:
The spies gather information for the Silence and are often of the smaller breeds and have master some sort of Shadow magic. They usually work in groups of two or three and their missions do not last very long, as they are expected to simply leave and come back with information. They train for about 3 years and the minimum age they must be is 18.
The tanks are the large, bulkier breeds that go out and kill large groups of knights that serve under the king. They are usually sent on missions to protect a nearby village or destroy a royal family that has been making it difficult for the citizens to live. They work in groups of three to five when sent out on these missions. Otherwise, they are usually paired up. They train for about 5 years and the minimum age they must be is 20.
The mages are the more magically inclined breeds like Tundras, Skydancers, and Coatls. They are expected to fight the more magically inclined enemies, such as rouge sorcerers in Sorneith. They fight best in pairs. They are trained for about 5 years and the minimum age they must be is 20.
Most of the time, various assassins join together to complete a mission and it is rare that only one type of assassin will be sent out.

TEACHER
In charge of teaching the new apprentices both fighting and magical skill, depending on what they are inclined to doing, teachers are separated into two groups.
The first are much more magically inclined and have often at least three elements well enough to be considered deadly with them.
The second are much more physically inclined and are usually of the larger breeds, such as Imperials, Snappers, Guardians, and Wildclaws. There are no fae teachers, as they are simply too small.
The teachers are expected to keep the apprentices well-fed and looked after. They do not go on missions, except when training with the apprentices outside of the Silence.

APPRENTICE
The lowest tier of the hierarchy, apprentices are usually young and under the age of 18. Most come from poor and tragic backgrounds with little left to their name. They are recruited by the commanders.

Sky

Sky walked down the long, bleak hallway. Torches hung on the walls, their flickering flames casting shadows across the walls. He didn't think of himself as paranoid, but the dancing shapes made him feel nervous. Everything made him nervous lately, as his subordinate Iris had been so polite to point out. He grit his teeth and trudged forward. He hated that pearlcatcher. She never seemed to stop talking or be in the proper place at the right time. And where the hell did she get the idea that everyone in the Silence was supposed to be trustworthy if they did their duty? Their duty was their duty. Nothing more. If they failed, they would be given proper punishment.

As he walked the halls, banging on the apprentices' doors to get them to wake up, his mind drifted to the note that had been left on his door. It had simply been a mission. It was rather specific; they were to find kill the head of a guild of mercenaries. The specific dragons that had to go suggested to him that they were to prepare for the worst.

As the apprentices stumbled out of their rooms, yawning and rubbing their eyes (and a few swore at the lumbering Imperial), Sky quickened his pace. He never liked children. They annoyed him too much.
Hecate

Hecate groaned as someone banged on the door to her room, sliding to the floor. Her head hurt from where she had hit it the previous day, after getting into a fight with an older apprentice. Granted, it was her fault to have insulted his family but still. Who gave a **** about family anymore?

She wrenched open the door to see the angry fae floating in front of her. "Sup," she offered, staring him down.

He hissed at her venomously. "You mirrors are a bunch of jokes." he spat before leaving. She frowned. All she mentioned was that it was a pity that such a loyal family could die.
Iris

Iris yawned, rubbing her eyes as she made her way into the mess hall. Dragons of various shapes and sizes were already there, slowly and surely making their way through the daily rituals. Iris stalked over to the table that contained all the food and picked up a few insects and leaves. It wasn't a great meal, but it was better than nothing.

She took her place at a table and looked up as she heard a few respectable "Morning Commander"s. She frowned. Sky, that irritating *******, had stepped through the threshold and was scanning the crowd. He spotted her and walked over.

****. Had she done something wrong? He plopped himself right next to her, his hulking figure frightening her, though she would never say so.

He nodded towards her plate. "Er, do you want some?" she asked, confused. He shook his head. She carefully began eating.

"You are to report to my office when you are done," he said suddenly, causing her to jump out of her skin. She snapped her head to him; when had he ever spoken to her? Before she could ask what the hell that was for, he had already left in search of someone else.

Kamalani

The banging on his door startled him. He had been awake for a few minutes before but not really awake. The banging certainly woke him up more. He gave the door a long look before sliding to the floor from his bed. He carefully stretched out his wings, wincing a little when a tinge of pain caused him to stop. His familiar gave him a concerned look from her spot by the door.

"It's nothing," he reassured her with a smile. She didn't look convinced. The celestial antelope had been with him for as long as he could remember. Cecilia, he called her. She didn't say much but she was always a comfort when he needed it. And a bother when he didn't. If he wasn't careful she'd probably alert someone to his predicament.

He'd pulled something in the training the day before, but he didn't want anyone to worry so he hadn't said anything. He was used to hiding his little discomforts. Everyone had other things to worry about over he didn't need to be one of them. He carefully folded his wings back and pushed the door open, popping his head out just as the big Imperial that had banged on the doors disappeared around the corner. Kamalani let out a breath as he moved from the room Cecilia following faithfully behind, waiting for a few more of the apprentices to walk by before following them, falling just behind the female Mirror called Hecate.

"Morning," he said in his less than usual chipper greeting. He knew not every dragon around was a morning dragon. He'd gotten more than his share of talking to by fellow apprentices about being too happy so early in the morning. "What do you think they'll be teaching us this morning?"

He couldn't help the light hop to his steps. He always looked forward to each new day. There was always new things to learn, new things to do, how could he not be excited about it? He was young and still learning.

Kaloka & Ikaika

"The apprentices are running slow this morning."

A dark purple crystal Imperial swung her head around to look at the white and blue Imperial male at her side. He huffed, looking around the various entrances to the mess hall. She snorted and bumped his side.

"Sky just walked in so he just woke them up. Let them grab something to eat before you start rushing them." Ikaika drawled, snapping up the last of her own meal.

Kaloka turned his head around enough to look at her with his good eye. He hated it when she sat on his blind spot, he had to go through extra work just to look at her. And he was pretty sure she did it on purpose too. Although, she did have a point. The apprentices would be whinier than usual if they didn't have at least something on their bellies first.

"Speaking of Sky," Kaloka said, playing with the last bit of his food with a claw. "He didn't stay very long. And he was talking with Iris. I don't think I've ever seen him talk to Iris."

Ikaika shrugged, "I think I hear someone mention a couple of missions being handed out. Maybe she's on one of those. It is his job to hand that stuff out after all."

Kaloka hummed, going back to looking around for the apprentices. Ikaika almost laughed. If they dallied too much longer she wouldn't be able to save them from his irritation later.

Hannibal

'They've finally started getting around.'

"I feared I might have to have gone to the dear Overseer. And you know how much I hate to put a burden on her."

The plague familiar rolled her eyes, standing guard to the open door of the large spacious room that housed her dragon. Hannibal lazily stretched themselves out, enjoying the space to stretch their wings to full length and not have to worry about knocking into any walls. They didn't have a lot of things, mind you, but it was nice to have space for the things they did have.

Hannibal yawned, revealing the rows of pearl white fangs that had ended far too many lives. They moved toward the door Pestilence sliding to the side to let them pass, closing the door behind them and making sure it was locked and secure. While they knew no one besides the Overseer would go into their room without permission, they always took the precaution. Heaven knew there were some curious apprentices in the batch this time around that just might take to snooping. They certainly had. They still did.

And they had discovered some interesting facts about various members of the Silence, some of which were no longer present or alive. They might have had a hand in that but they certainly weren't going to brag about it. After all, they were loyal and just weeding out the not so loyal, what that said about them was debatable.

"Let us go and see what the others are up to this morning, shall we?" Hannibal asked, a pleasant smile curling their face.

Pestilence glanced up at them, thinking not for the first time what a sight Hannibal made. They were a large Imperial with dark crimson crystal scales and wings. The light from the torches often danced off they scales and sometimes made them seem like they were on fire at times. It had been their strange sort of beauty that had drawn her to them. She had been sent out with the notes of missions earlier that morning. Now it was time to see who wanted to file a complaint, there was always a few.
