@Whim Here's the thread! :) And here are my two starting dragons as a reminder of their looks and such: Xerxes: Munin: ------------------------------------ Silence hung in the air, heavy, almost to the point of suffocating as not even the crickets chirped or moved about,. It was a dark night, the moon covered by thick clouds. There was a chill in the air as a small breeze formed, stirring through the trees like a soft sigh, the silence was finally broken, though it was still eerily quiet. The huge trees and the forests stilled once more, yet now there was an ever so quiet rustling, and if one looked hard enough they could make out the dark shapes of two creatures moving through the undergrowth. One was considerably larger than the other, yet for his size, he barely made a sound, moving slowly and carefully behind the smaller shape. The smaller figure seemingly danced lightly over sticks and stones, yet his movements were calculated and wary and he constantly looked around. They weren't meant to be there. The clouds parted for a moment to shine light down, revealing the two rather intimidating dragons, and Imperial and Wildclaw, and from their swords and armour they weren't entirely friendly. They were there on reconnaissance , scouting out the surrounding areas and features of that particular part of the Labyrinth, and gaining any info they could on potential whereabouts of beastclans and other clans. That, and there was one particular clan they were on the look out for, one that their clan had been at odds with for a while. The Imperial looked down on his companion, looking around quietly, "We shouldn't stay for much longer, Munin", his deep voice rumbled from somewhere deep in his chest, "We've already been here long enough". He looked around once more, becoming even more wary as the longer they were there the more likely they were to be spotted by something. "Sssooon, Xerxesss", came the quiet raspy response from the smaller dragon, "We just need a little more information", Munin was scrawling down notes in a journal, marking down a brief map of the areas they had been through and jotting down anything of information.

Holloc nodded his head slowly. "Mistralias was right this time," he whispered under his breath, studying the area around them. The mirror peered into the woods in front of her. "How close?" "I can't tell," Holloc admitted. Biting his tongue for a moment in deliberation, the Imperial nodded to the canopies. Getting the message, the mirror carefully winged her way up through the leaves, perching on an obscured branch that was barely in the treeline, close to the bank of the stream. Without another word, Holloc took a jogging start and leapt into the air above the stream, spiraling above the trees and into the sky. The mirror watched him take off, her fins folded back. She was slightly worried about having to shoo dragons away on her own, but she trusted the Imperial would be able to find them, even if they may be coming this way

Through the dead of night, in the thickest and deepest parts of the Shrieking Wilds, two dragons trekked through as well. They slipped and leapt with ease, the noise of their movement sounding like nothing more than a brisk night wind. The shrieking of manticores in the distance drowned out most of it anyways.

The shaded shapes of a bit smaller-than-average Imperial and a floral mirror wove through the trees, muttering quietly among themselves.

"It isn't any good to be out here at night, I tell you." the Imperial huffed, carefully stepping over a fallen tree without making too much sound. The mirror darted along beside him, using her wings to glide between the canopies and the ground. "This is a wolf-and-panther time of night."

The mirror sighed, shaking out her fins. "I wasn't the one who insisted in checking out Mistralias's goose chase of a hunch, Holloc, so don't go complaining to me." she whispered, carrying along.

Holloc shrugged, narrowing his eyes at the brush around them. "It's rarely ever just that. he commented quietly, weaving between trees. "Just tell me if you are able to pick up something."

The mirror snorted, but they continued on. They had only just crossed over the first stream when Holloc perked up, his tail curling around a thick-trunked tree. ((I just realised how small my Imp is in terms of other imps and yours, oh gosh haha, he's such an intimidating smol boy))

--

The two made their way along attempting to keep the noise level down, but every now and then a twig would snap under their feet, much to their annoyance. Munin was still writing down all he could and was still mapping out the area, the soft scratching of his quill on paper being heard. He ventured a little further ahead of the larger dragon, seemingly caught up in his writings. He looked around, his eyes well-adjusted to the night as that was what he was used to; he was a trained night combatant and always came equipped with the necessary items for him to carry out what he needed to. Despite being in new territory, the night was his element and thus he wasn't as nervous as the Imperial, he felt in his element in a sense. The apparel he wore helped him to blend into the darkness, making it harder for him to be spotted by others, hostile or not.

"Munin!", Xerxes hissed harshly but quietly, keeping his voice down, "We need to go now, that's an order". He stopped and tensed, his head rising to look out into the darkness, his piercing red eyes glowing slightly as they narrowed, trying to discern possible shapes or objects around them. His ears pricked up slightly at a faint sound, his vision might not have been as great as his companion's but his hearing and smell were heightened. He looked up towards the canopy and skies, hearing the ever so soft beating of wings that were too large to be a bird.

"There's something coming, we need to move", he hissed at the other dragon whom quickly began to pack up his writing gear, stuffing it into a satchel strung across his waist. The two dragons quickly moved into the shadows, sticking to the cover of trees as they picked their way along, unknowingly heading in the direction of a Mirror in the trees as to head back the way they came would mean they'd risk being seen by the unwelcome interruption due to it being more open.

The mirror clutched the branch for a while, closing her eyes as she tried to focus. It was true - she was picking up on...something. An urgent, soiled feeling at the front of her head was beginning to pound to be recognized.

It was not long after that she began to hear the subtle rustling through the bushes - not Holloc, not a beast. The urgency in her head was getting stronger. What was Holloc doing? Why were these mysterious dragons being driven in the direction of camp. Well, she may as well stop that while she was here.

She peered through the layers upon layers of brush, trying her hardest to pick out any enroaching figures, her heart thumping ridiculously fast. As soon as she saw a flicker of movement, the mirror stood on the branch she had been on and started shaking it up and down, making a dreadful amount of racket in the near serenity of the forest. She hoped desperately it would just scare them away instead of attract attention.

Unfortunately for the Mirror, it had done the opposite of what she was hoping to achieve. The two dragons looked in the direction of the loud noise, before looking to each other, giving small nods and not saying a word as they moved.

Xerxes unsheathed his katana as he carefully began to move towards the sound to investigate whether it was a beastclan member or perhaps another dragon. They weren't meant to be in this area, at least not at night, and anyone or anything that saw them needed to either be silenced or persuaded not to speak. He approached quickly but quietly, the mirror could see the large form of the Imperial below her, and as the moon peeked through the clouds and shone light down below she was able to see the two intruders clearer. Xerxes plague eyes looked around, before they slowly began to move up, searching the trees. The mirror's only saving grace was that she was blending in well with her surroundings compared to the two below her, but that was short lived as the Wildclaw walked up beside his mate and looked up, spotting her with his keen sight.

"Thisss is not a night for a lady sssuch as yourself to be out", Munin rasped out as a smirk began to form across his maw, his own paw moving for the sword on his hip.

Meiria instantly stopped as she was able to feel a clear presence of dragons get closer. Damn it all. She crouched on the branch, watching the brush move and sway with the movement of other beasts. The mirror gritted her teeth, fins pressed back. She was able to tell they were close, but didn't have a pinpointed spot until the moon shone upon the slowly rising head of a horrendous looking dragon, who's bloody red eyes were darting around.

Inhaling in surprise, Meira backed herself up against the trunk. What the hell? She glanced into the sky hurriedly. When would Holloc be back? How long would he be searching until he was led back here? Damn it all.

As the voice addressed her, the mirror's eyes flew downward, locking on a vague form. Whatever it was didn't sound any more pleasant than the Imperial looked. However, her temper flared at the statement. This was her territory. Who was this freak to come in here and give her a curfew?

Standing a bit straighter and glaring downwards, the mirror whipped her tail, attention occasionally being distracted by the head of the Imperial. "You're absolutely right. The only reason I had to come out here was because you decided to lug yourselves across the thickest part of the Wilds in the darkest time of night. I think the statement at this point is that anyone who willingly wanders this place at night shouldn't be here." she snapped, clenching her talons around the branch.

The wildclaw's maw twisted into a smirk, his teeth flashing in the moonlight as he looked up at her, "Oooh the Lady likesss to bite", he chuckled and shook his head, still maintaining his grip on the sword. He noticed that she was getting a bit antsy and seemed to be waiting for something, or someone, to arrive. "Why don't you come down here and say hi, sssweetheart". Munin craned his neck to look up at her, noticing that she wasn't entirely dressed for the occasion, he didn't see her as a threat, nor did the Imperial.

Xerxes watched the Mirror carefully, studying her movements and noticing how skittish she was. He also noticed that she was frequently looking at him and a low rumble began emanating from his chest. He began to move towards her, his eyes narrowing almost sinister, "Listen here Mirror", he was getting closer, considerably dwarfing her smaller form with his head easily being able to reach up to where she perched. "Why don't you scurry on back home and pretend like this didn't happen huh? Do that and we'll leave here, simple as that. If not, well, I'm sure you won't entirely like the consequences". He hissed out his words, his blood red eyes seeming to stare deep into her, like burning pits of fire, challenging her to go against his order.

The mirror bared her teeth at whoever was below. Why would these disgusting dragons be in her forest? Acting like they owned the whole forsaken place. Meiria looked up once again. She wasn't high enough up in the trees to just fly away with ease if things went wrong. She would need time to slip through all the branches. Time...she could cause a split-second distraction, but that needed time too. She just had to hold out for a few moments.

Meiria tried to push herself even farther back into the tree when the Imperial's head suddenly appeared in front of her, his closeness making her feel sick. This didn't look like just an average plague dragon - maybe something more dangerous. She couldn't tell, but it was making her head pound.

Needless, she clenched her talons securely around the branch, and she looked a bit distracted as she spoke, though it was impossible to tell what to. Her forearms were obviously tense. "Oh, I don't think that's the nicest way to converse with someone in their own home, do you? The trees have ears, you know, and this is an awful big territory for just little me, hmm?" she prattled, her wings hunched over her. It was all bluff, obviously. No one would get out here fast enough to help until Holloc came back. But she just needed to stall out as long as she could. His eyes made her back prickle and heart pound, and there was a bit of worry beginning to ooze onto her mockingly polite expression.

Xerxes glared at the mirror head on, his eyes seeming to stare right through her and into her soul, he was at a range now where she couldn't run as he could easily swat her down out of the air. He watched her movements and how she held herself, noticing the worry beginning to seep onto her features, which caused him to smirk almost wickedly. From the proximity she could see markings etched across his skin, mysterious markings that shifted with each movement he made, he had a long scar across his eye as well, the eye in question slightly duller than the other signaling a blind eye, yet even dull it would cause anyone to shudder. He remained silent though, allowing his mate to speak any words that were necessary.

"Earsss you sssay?", the Wildclaw tilted his head to the side, a flicker of amusement crossing his maw, "Well thatsss cetainly interesting, I didn't think trees had earsss. Well, if they had ears then where are your friendsss, hmmm?". He chuckled as he watched the Wildclaw, "Surely they'd be here by now". He looked around just to make sure no one else was around.

"Tell you what little lady, why don't you let us ssscout around for a little longer then we will leave, hmm? Sssound fair?, he grinned, and as he did so his teeth glinted in the moonlight.

Meiria licked her beak nervously, her eyes darting upward again. She looked back to the Imperial, feeling suffocated by his gaze. Who was she kidding herself? Mirrors weren't even made for flying, and in the air, she wasn't even in her own domain. Meiria let her pairs of eyes wander down to the figure below, her throat constricting. Could she out-run a Wildclaw? Most of the time, no, but this was in her forest, and this Wildclaw didn't sound like the most green-aligned type, so she may as well give it a shot.

The mirror feigned excessive nervousness, which wasn't a huge stretch, and shifted her weight, though her front talons still remained in the same position. "Well, ah, it still is a rather large territory, you know. It takes a while. B-but I'm sure that won't be a problem, don't see any harm in it." At the stressed word, Meiria's shoulders suddenly lurched forward, and along with that, the branch she was perched on doubled in greenery, new leaves and twigs shooting out not in huge abundance, but in what may have appeared to be a sudden explosion of growth in the Imperial's face. It wasn't anything extreme, but the mirror hoped to use the sudden eruption to slip away.

As soon as she saw it had actually worked, Meiria made a flying jump off of the branch, folding her wings to twist around a few trees before her talons hit the ground. She swung her head back around to still see the figures of the dragons through the branches, and instantly took off, a bit light-headed.

"Holloc!" she screamed, hoping he was close enough as she began to pound through the forest, her back prickling.
