So here is how my evening went:
Me: *watching a YouTube series*
Laptop: *pop up* Upgrade to Windows 10?
Me: No, thanks, laptop. *closes window and resumes video*
~~~ A Few Days Pass ~~~
Me: *youtube series going strong, hunting shiny Pokemon*
Laptop: *pop up* Hey, I know you said no before, but... Windows 10?
Me: *with slight irritation* No, laptop. Stop it. *closes window*
~~~ A Few Hours Pass ~~~
Me: *away from keyboard, listening to YouTube but now actively watching*
Laptop: *youtube video stops playing*
Me: ? *walks to bed*
Laptop: *pop up* No, seriously, Windows 10.
Me: *clenched teeth* I said no. *aggressively closes pop up and cranks youtube*
~~~ A Few Minutes Pass ~~~
Me: *away from keyboard again, laughing at youtube*
Laptop: *youtube stops*
Me: *storms back* I SAID N-
Laptop: Configuring to install Windows 10! Please do not turn off your laptop.
Me: *inhuman screeching*
~~~ An Hour Passes ~~~
Me: *staring intensely at laptop screen*
Laptop: Windows 10 is finished installing! :D
Me: *goes to settings and selects Go back to Windows 8.1*
Laptop: D:
Me: I hate you.

Maybe this will help? I figured you might want to try that when you are less frustrated. I remember that crap happening on my old laptop and it drove me nuts.
For some reason I thought it was already past the deadline for the free upgrade. I deleted a bunch of the Windows 10 spam updates off my laptop several months back. Well worth the few minutes it takes.

the thing about windows 10 is they only appear free.

The popups (and a nightmare related to them) were the entire reason I finally agreed to upgrade. :c My computer has been handling 10 better than 8.1, though, so I suppose it worked out.

you need this
disable automatic updates on your computer, run that thing and get rid of KB3035583
now you're all set no more windows 10 spam.
For some reason I never got that spam on either of my computers. Perhaps because I never install optional upgrades. Also on both my laptop and desktop the svchost.exe connected to Windows Update decides to use up an entire core of CPU and never stop every single day so I've turned them off and I just remember to check for updates myself. >.<
