===The island of Maki is a relatively old island in Fire's standards, as old lands are constantly torn away to be replaced by new in volatile displays of lava and violence. Maki has survived this long, perhaps, due to being just outside the range of the destruction along the coast, pushed away by the activity itself. Only recently re-settled, Maki has flourished into a rich trade hub, serving as a refueling port and marketplace between Wind, Fire, Ice and Arcane lands. It boasts its own flora and fauna, sustaining the clan on its shores.

===Clan Makira sees its share of travelers, though they try to make the merchants as comfortable as possible. Lairs are carved within the sides of an old volcano, which is kept tame through the utilization of magic and careful curation. Two spiraling ramps circle inside, with more business-oriented caves carved at and near the base of the mountain. Bridges with tassels and fabrics hanging from the sides span the gaps between the two spirals, allowing expedited travel for those unable to fly. Both ramps and bridges are dwarfed, however, by the luxuriously huge stained wood door, separating the volcano from the rest of the world. Lovely patterns swirl across the door, while above the frame on each side is a set of runes roughly translating to 'Welcome Home'.

===At the volcano floor colorful stalls fill the area, creating a tight maze that shifts every week with the coming and going of new merchandise. In the middle an impressive stone fountain of the Flamecaller sits overlooking a pool of lava, surrounded by a meeting area. Events are often held here and soft pillows are thrown about, many dangerously close to the pool itself. The fountain can sometimes be seen being used as a bathing pool, burning off dead cells and dirt while safely keeping the dragon underneath it all perfectly fine. The feel of the pool is more like a hot tub rather than actual lava itself and is perfectly safe to splash on anything attuned to the fountain itself.

===Opposite of the entrance lies another, fully steel with ancient carvings of the Flamecaller etched into it. A small slot is directly in the meeting of the two doors, an elaborate clasp waiting to be unlocked by the proper token by the proper clan member.

===Maki wasn't always the paradise it is now. Previously, battles raged on over its lands with flights contesting over who should receive the island. After a serious of defeats, Fire made a serious comeback, burning through the competition and claiming the island for themselves. Fire clans banded together installed a volcano and linked a young exalted dragon to it - an Imperial named Aden - so if he was ever removed from the island for too long the volcano would erupt and give Fire dragons an edge up in taking it back. Aden curated the island himself for a few short days before sending his adoptive brother to recruit dragons to join them, inciting would-be clanmembers with relative isolation and connections between Wind, Ice and Fire territories. This caught the eye of merchants, who quickly swarmed onto the island and developed the beginnings of Clan Makira that stands today.

===Makira's business spans from goods, services, to dragons themselves. Though slavery and severe indenturement is indeed outlawed in the clan, dragons are often transported through the island when ending up in Ice prisons. Of course, this isn't any real large part of dragon business - Maki itself is a beautiful tourist hotspot, with the hot winds of summer from Fire and Wind clashing with the cool currents from Ice. A few researchers have begun taking Nature affiliated plants and using them in Maki's ashen soil along with studying how outside species interact with Maki's inclosed ecosystem, boosting tourism among those with more scientific minds.

===Most of Makira's economy comes from this tourism and from trading, though there is reason to believe there may be more behind the scenes. Goods being transported from seemingly nowhere, never imported and only exported, though it's somewhat taboo to bring this up to a Makiran as they'll simply deny any existence of it. This controversy has attracted its fair share of dragons looking to exploit it, finding ways to weasel their way into this economy.

===Typically discordant feasts are gathered around the fountain with four plates/bowls of food set out for each type of eater. An exorbitant amount of pillows are brought out for this and this feast typically signals the closing of the marketplace (except of a few holidays, though not many). At the feast discussions are held for registered clan members to contribute to, though the opinion of outsiders are always welcome. Votes are rarely conducted for the changing of rules and laws, put forth by a council that's voted on every half-year.

===The time of festivals is severely important to Makirans, each flight represented equally in their favor - other than Fire's, of course. There are a few holidays that it seems only those of rank II and up seem to organize, though they are all a source of fun in any case! As before, clan members and outsiders alike are invited to celebrate together.

===Applying to be a Makiran is a simple process, though dragons going through indoctrination are often encouraged to create an official name, set up to tell those with similar names apart in financial settings. An impression of the dragon's silhouette is pressed upon a paper, kept with other personal files about genetics and other health and safety information. The new member is then handed a blank coin with a hole punched into the top. This coin magically links to the next dragon to touch it and will morph depending on the current status of the individual, determined by magically guarded papers within an office behind the iron gate.
