The pair met during Rockbreaker's Ceremony festivities, and they were struck with immediate, strong passion for one another. For a time, Reed believed that Evergreen may be her charge. When he shared his desires to start his own clan, Reed gladly accepted his proposal. They nestled their clan in the arcs of the Crystalpine Reaches, having both been born Arcane dragons. They spent many days battling Beast Clans for both defense and sport and raised wonderful children together - the most prominent of which are Mailu and Andes. While Andes aspired to be feminine but firm like her mother, Mailu aspired to be powerful and determined like his father. As they struggled to build their clan from the ground up, a Shadeholder attached himself to their young settlement. Noticing the determination and hunger for control present in Evergreen's personality, a Shadeholder by the name of Arden manipulated Evergreen with Shade magic, introducing mental illness to his already larger-than-life desires. A deadly combination of hysteria, madness, and greed drove Evergreen to violence. Mailu clung to his father, a true disciple of his ways, even as Evergreen grew sick with love of power and need to conquer. Evergreen grew ruthless and bloodthirsty, attacking neighboring clans and becoming abusive to Reed. As Reed watched Clan Tooth and Claw deteriorate under the control of the mate she once adored, she learned her true charge; protection of her clan. She used her strength to banish Evergreen from the territory they'd acquired in the Starfall Isles. She suggested that they divide the clan; he could take his members to the Scarred Wasteland, where his radical views might be better accepted. Unable to see the folly of his father's ways, Mailu left with Evergreen. The two did relocate Clan Tooth and Claw to the Wandering Contagion, but their clan eventually fell victim to anarchy. Manipulated by the Shade and driven by paranoia, Evergreen killed his own son in the battle that also claimed his life. Reed is unaware of the fate of her old mate, but now lives in bitter denial of the old days. After Evergreen left, Reed immediately began instilling major improvements in the structure of the clan, as well as renamed it to Aster Clan and relocated to the Starwood Strand. As Aster Clan began to find its footing in the Starfall Isles under new leadership, Reed built a repertoire of skills and gained status within Arcane territory as a safe haven. To all dragons who had some skill to offer - be it weaving or war - Aster Clan provided a functional home now safely out of the reaches of its previous leader. Aster Clan still struggled greatly, however, with Beast Clans, until a Pearlcatcher by the name of Palptine made the clan his home. Palptine was originally raised in the care of a herd of Water-aligned Longnecks. The Beast Clan took him in and raised him until he was old enough to go out and seek a dragon clan for himself. Prior to his arrival in Aster Clan, the clan engaged in constant warfare with nearby Beast Clans and saw familiars only as slaves; prized possessions won in battle. After his arrival and newfound occupation as Beastclan Ambassador, Aster Clan began regarding familiars as friends and seeing Beast Clans as valuable allies that can be negotiated with as easily as another dragon. As the clan grew even larger, it relocated to the Focal Point. After many months of construction, the dragons of Aster Clan were able to fashion a mock observatory atop the mountain, large enough to house all of its members. Reed was also able to find a new mate, a Nocturne named Birch who deserted his Wind clan in a time of need. Yes, Reed has poor taste in companionship, but her tenderness and compassion taught Birch many valuable lessons... he learned affection, loyalty, and how to love space as much as she did! The clan grew popular for its inclusive beliefs; the diversity of its members was unprecedented in the area and attracted many additions. The clan grew highly functional; with everything from night guardsmen to puppeteers, its crafts and strength in battle could not be topped. In appreciation for their prosperity in the name of the Arcanist, Reed and Birch were eventually granted a home at the Observatory. The dragons of Aster Clan worked long and hard to chisel into the side of the mountain atop which stands the Observatory, drilling an intricate system of tunnels large enough to house its many members. It is here that the clan now rests, working on its relations with other clans, hoping to find new alliances and friendships. Many Shadeholders loom overhead; four have attached themselves to the clan and lie in wait to cause more chaos, though the unsuspecting dragons below have not the slightest clue of the damage they could cause. The location was ideal for protection from the occasional wayward magic bolts cast from the top of the Observatory but was surrounded by murky, magical waters deep enough to frighten the bravest of warriors. Enchanted and winding trees created a protective dome for the clan centered among the forest. Though the woods were plagued with mystery, the trees provided a beautiful ceiling at night and a safe fortress during the day. Reed would have stayed in the Strand forever if the clan had not suddenly prospered and outgrown their outdoor home. Inspired by the cylindrical shape of elevated chunks of earth across the top of the Focal Point, the clan fashioned a mock observatory made with wood, scrapmetal, and bones. The construction of the hardy temple was overseen by friendly Beast Clans to ensure it would be strong enough to protect the clan from meteors and alien creatures so commonly found darting through the skies. The dragons of Aster Clan saw their new home as a way of paying homage to the Arcanist, whose magic and courtesy helped them to thrive. The dragons poured blood, sweat, and tears into chiseling an enormous cavern into the largest hill of the Focal Point. Undoubtedly their most massive home yet, the Aster Clan dragons were able to turn the hard rock into a comfortable and extensive living space. Living in such a dark environment has made candle production very important, and everyone is herded out into the sunlight each day to ensure the clan stays healthy and active. But the cave provides perfect concealment and protection from enemies, and its mouth is thoroughly guarded day and night.[/columns]

After all, whose land are they living in? Thankfully, Reed has no problem convincing her clanmates that being an Arcanite is a privilege. The Starfall Isles are undeniably beautiful, vast, and mysterious. There is arguably no place more lovely than Arcane territory, as long as you aren't flattened by an asteroid or lost in the Wood. Some of Aster Clan's young have even attempted to befriend the strange alien creatures in the Focal Point. [b]Beast Clans:[/b] Many dragons of Aster Clan are indifferent to the Beast Clans. In the case of the clan leaders, Reed and Birch believe that Beast Clans are extremely intelligent, efficient in battle, and destructive when angered. Aster Clan's leaders attempt to maintain a good relationship with neighboring Beast Clans so they can have a quick go-to ally if trouble arises. Aster Clan and the Beast Clans have a mutual respect, as is displayed by the partnership between a dragon and its familiar. The dragons of Aster Clan see the creatures as companions, and they only raise a claw against the Beast Clans when defending their own land from a disrespectful clan. It is unfair to generalize all Beast Clans as being good or evil, as Reed and the others have learned that their personalities and moral beliefs vary greatly amongst clans, similar to the way that Aster Clan's opinions differ from other dragon clans... even other Arcane clans! In the case of a few members of Aster Clan, the Beast Clans are their true home. For instance, Palptine is unclear on his origins. He only knows that shortly after birth, he wandered to a nearby Water-aligned clan of Longnecks. The Beast Clan took him in and raised him until he was old enough to go out and seek a dragon clan for himself. Prior to his arrival in Aster Clan, the clan engaged in constant warfare with nearby Beast Clans and saw familiars only as slaves; prized possessions won in battle. When it seems that tensions are arising between Aster Clan and a neighboring Beast Clan, it is Palptine that reminds his clan mates that the Beast Clans are sentient and warm, not heartless and primitive. [b]Magic:[/b] Every dragon is born with some degree of magical ability. For many dragons, this is simply an elemental charge. Light dragons, by nature, may summon fireflies or illuminate a dark cave with their radiating claw, while Arcane dragons can channel energy into stunning an opponent or cause objects to levitate with their minds. Other dragons, however, have unique magical abilities, such as the ability to predict the future, interpret dreams, or communicate with the dead. These dragons are regarded as blessed by the gods, having an important lineage, having a great destiny, or having exceptional luck. These dragons need not learn their ability; they are simply born with it and must grow to control it. Normal dragons may use scrolls and incantations to assist in particularly tricky magic, and they can enhance their powers only through careful training and studying. As for the leader of Aster Clan, Reed is [i]very[/i] powerful and possesses very fine-tuned but very chaotic magic. In order to achieve membership, Aster Clan dragons must be magically inclined. Cross-over magic is possible, but only with careful training and the approval of the respective other deities. A dragon who has not trained enough may cast a spell that ends up too reflective of its birth flight, for example, a Lightning dragon who attempts to grow a Speckled Petunia but instead creates a strange, electrically charged magnetic plant. In certain cases, magic may be intercepted, contained, or temporarily hijacked by other users. Dragons who make their home in Aster Clan may possess any number of skills and talents; it is only required that they be able to perform basic spells because of Arcane's traditional magical inclination.
