THE DONQUIXOTE CLAN
and their ugly tale // \\ // \\

A large, noisy and colourful clan of artisans, assassins and politicians. Ruled by the Rainbow Council, the edicts of the imperial queen Historia's Court and the whispers of her ever-grinning ally, "Joker".

Along the Eastern shores of the Windswept Plateau, this clan makes their home, making use of the strongest breezes to support long and complicated structures of functional and decorative kites above homes hollowed into a thick and tall extrusion of rock, a small way out to sea. This extrusion looks oddly macabre--but surely no dragon has ever existed with a skull that large?

Below and above the dragonhomes lie the extensive gardens, and the source of all their fortunes--as seeds are carried by the winds towards the Steppes, the rarest of plants often take root nearby. They are tended to with infinitesimal, inexhaustible care by the clan's gardeners. As a result, a veritable jungle of flora grows in the rich territory, the rarest and deadliest of which are tended to personally by the clan, and put to use as they see fit to give and sell it. Through the Donquixote clan, the only thing that flows faster than information is poison, as wherever their wares go, their scouts and spies have surely gotten there first.

A natural hot spring exists near centre of the extrusion, and the power of the natural waterfalls and steam it creates are harnessed using water wheels and other devices, which power the clan's colourful kite-silk looms, spinning beautiful tapestries and garments for the dragons of the clan to sell or adorn themselves in. Below the clanhome lie underwater ruins, purportedly filled with mystery and darkness. Not even Joker often authorises dives.

The jangle, bustle and chime of this large structure is audible some way out to sea, along with the clan's reed flutes, used to capture the wind's natural 'voice' and channel it into magical song, said to be able to influence weaker-minded dragons and imitate the calls of the gods themselves.

Susceptible to their own songweaving, many of the former dragons of this clan found the pull and echo of the Windsinger's ballads too much to resist...some say the new Clan leaders may have had something to do with it--but with all who those profited from the change in leadership, who can be sure of the real mastermind?
----
The Donqioxote Company's clanhome sits on the far North-Eastern reaches of the Reedcleft Ascent, it's territories bordering the Wandering Contagion and home to deep, lush forests, orchards, silk farms and fields of herbs and poisons tended to by the expert paws of their Botanical Society.

Their capitol rests on an island, partway out to sea, and home to a cavernous city whose tunnels and caverns stretch deep below the water and teem with organic life, tapering off several miles down into ancient halls carved into the rock, ringed by great pale curving stones that seem all-too similar to ribs.
They would fit the size of the great stone "skull" the Company's most precious plants and trees are nursed in--if a dragon of such size had ever existed, anyway.

HISTORIA
[LONG LIVE THE QUEEN]
2570373p.png
Historia, tired of her lot as a breeder, a flower picker, a footsoldier with no training, participated in the Donquixote coup. Now she rules as part figurehead, part politician. The public face of the clan. She now sits in on the Rainbow Council along with "Joker" and the inner family circle, deciding the path of the clan.

Historia is popular within the clan and her leadership isn't often questioned--those who disagree with her decrees fall more often to peer pressure than any force exerted by clan leadership. And if a dragon's views are so radical that their peers become somewhat overzealous in defense of the queen? Mere misfortune, and very saddening.
"Joker"'s origins are unknown--it appears he simply arrived one sunny day, during the large-scale exodus to the Windsinger's side that took almost the entire clan from their homes and to the sky: parents carrying hatchlings, youngers supporting elders, deaf and blind to anything but the enticing Windsong.

It was only a day or two before Historia, with this odd new imperial's snout to her ear, took the reigns of the clan and proclaimed leadership. Those who opposed her at first seemed to change their views...quickly.
Joker only laughed, the easy sound rattling his fellows bone-deep, when this was brought up.

He has a soft-spot for hatchlings, and can often be found resting in the nesting chambers, allowing the youngers to crawl into his magnificent and well groomed fluffy pink mane and wings as he naps.
