TOPIC | Covenant of the Three Totems (nuzlocke)
1 2
I decided to go on a nuzlocke, based on the rules originally laid down by @Sunshade for eir Lovecraftian Nuzlocke, here: http://www1.flightrising.com/forums/cc/1480715/1 My focus here will be some lore creation around the intraclan factional conflict between dragon cultists trying to appease their eldritch gods. My Progenitor is in fact one of the unscrutable Old Ones fabled on the Necronomicon... oh hell, on Lovecraftian literature. She summoned three abominations under her lair area, whose presence is barely visible, and which demand to be appeased. Those Three Totems are now hungry not only for sacrifice (exaltation or giveaway) but for conflict between the factions... who will get to decide who's gonna be sacrificed? THE COVENANT
(Summoning the Abominations and Beginning a New Clan under a New Era)

The Covenant (Summoning the Abomination and Beginning the New Clan)

You must have five nests and at least five pages in your lair.

You must have at least three clear themes to define your factions; those can be breeds, genes, colors, or any combination of them, whatever. Only three of the themes will survive the Covenant.

Exalt one of your Progenitors; the other will be the Avatar of the abomination which now has taken your clan as a hive. This progenitor dragon will be like the queen of the hive, and oversee breeding so there can be endless sacrifice to the Three Totems, entities revered by the factions/tribes/castes on your clan.

Choose five dragons of each faction. Those will belong on the safe zone. Check out which of the faction has less dragons and, during the first week of the Covenant, the Progenitor will favor that faction, but that means the faction will begin with four dragons along the Progenitor.

The rest of your dragons will be given to friends or noobies, or exalted.

SAFE ZONE
The safe zone is the area where the Chosen will retract as the other dragons are sacrificed to the Transphinx and the Three Totems.
It consists of at least the first three pages of the lair, or more if the lair have eight or more pages (half of the pages would be the right proportion).
Within this area, no dragon can be exalted after breeding; it represents the three factions common grounds. But outside that area, there is constant conflict for space; those who fail the constant trials of the unsafe zone are bound to be exalted soon.

GENERAL LIFE
1. You can both gather food and grind for food in the coli.
2. If a dragon faints in the coli, it is dead and will be exalted.
3. Whenever a dragon hatched by the clan reaches adulthood, roll a dice (d6).
1-2-3 – The dragon receives the Mark of Free Will and as such is free to breed whenever they so desires; it goes to the safe zone (see safe zone) if there is place for they.
4-5 – The dragon MUST breed at soon as they are able to; after their eggs are hatched, the dragon, now a parent, is sacrificed (exalted).
6 – As the result just above, except that the dragon will be exalted ALONG with the other parent, right on the nest, in the presence of the hatchlings.

Since the focus here is intercine conflict, there are no travel restrictions like on the original Lovecraftian game.

LIVING UNDER THE COVENANT
Each dragon beings life with 100/100 Stability, or 50/100 if they belong to the first fifteen dragons that first made up the Covenant. The Progenitor is “immortal”, unexaltable, and isn't affected by Stability rules.
Other relevant statistics are Fanaticism 0/100 and Despair 0/100; however, the first fifteen dragons begin the nuzlocke with 50 Fanaticism.

Stability
This stat represent how well the inner psychic of the dragon has endured the harsh life under the Covenant. Each day, each dragon loses 1 point of Stability or 3 if the dragon is outside the safe zone. Those points goes to Despair unless the dragon had gained a chest from a familiar that day.
If Stability reaches zero, the dragon is exalted after their neighbours notice their weakness and offer him to the clan's deity as a tribute.

Fanaticism
Everyday, bond with your familiars. These represent creatures possessed by the spirits and alien entities revered by the Covenant factions. All familiars must be with a dragon unless there are no space for them; and dragons on the safe zone have first claim to familiars.
Each day a dragon bond with a familiar, it gets 1 point of Fanaticism for each star of the familiar (up to six points), and some more points if they gained a chest from their familiar that day (5 from a rusted treasure chest, 10 from iron, 15 from gilded decorative chest).
If a dragon reaches Fanaticism 100 AND Despair 100, they are exalted. That represents the fanatic transcending to another plane of existance, probably after righteous suicide.

Despair
This stat means anguish so concrete it acts as a beacon. Dragons outside the Safe Zone employ their Despair to survive and get back to the Safe Zone; but those who can't trick their neighbors into accepting them on the Zone are butchered first as an offering to the Three Totems.
A dragon can gain Despair from Stability loss (see above), but Despair can also come from dangerous random events outside the Safe Zone, so, each day, check out the traits that give bonus riches for exalting. Every dragon that has a match on those traits gain 1 Despair point for each matching trait, or twice that figure if the dragon is outside Safe Zone.
If a dragon beings life seeing one or both of their parents sacrificed, of course they get Despair; as such their starting Despair would be 50.

TRAITS

FANATICISM
Once a dragon reaches Fanaticism 100, roll a dice (d6).
1-2 - No relevant Trait
3 - Champion: This dragon never needs to be Exalted if he faints in the Coliseum.
4 - Heretic: The dragon changes caste and then loses 5 Stability. Put that dragon at the end of the lair.
5 - Preacher: Whenever this dragon is selected to be Exalted, the dragon gains 50 Despair and remains alive.
6 - Scapegoat: If another dragon of the same caste is chosen to be Exalted, this dragon will be Exalted instead.

DESPAIR
1-3 - No relevant Trait
3 - Breeder: Each time this dragon breeds, the dragon gains Fanaticism equals twice the number of hatchlings.
4 - Deviant: The dragon changes caste and then loses 5 Stability. Put that dragon at the end of the lair.
5 - Murderer: Randomly select another dragon on the Safe Zone. The dragon kills the random dragon in secret. Exalt the random dragon.
6 - Suicidal: Exalt the dragon.

THE CRUCIBLE
Each Saturday, you will sacrifice two dragons.
Choose three dragons outside the Safe Zone, one from each faction, the ones with the highest Despair from each faction. For each dragon, add the combined Fanaticism of the other two as Despair points. Now exalt the two dragons with the highest Despair rating. Give the exalted ones' combined Despair points as Fanaticism points to survivor.
Then, exchange the place of this survivor with a dragon of the same faction that has the lesser Fanaticism rating in all the Safe Zone. The faction is now considered to be in favor with the Three Totems! The Cycle goes on!

If there are no dragons outside Safe Zone, the sacrifices will come anyway, inside Safe Zone.

Note: Ties are resolved with randomly OR you can stabilish a system of weak points for the Factions, using jokenpo logic. For example, Faction A always wins ties against Faction B, but always loses ties to Faction C; however C always loses ties to B.

BREEDING AND FACTIONS
The nests will always be occupied whenever possibile. When a nest vacates, see if there is some dragon marked to breed and be exalted after breeding; a faction will always try to make pairings withim themselves, like a caste would, but the Covenant says breeding must always happen, so interfactional pairings can occur. The Progenitor will ALWAYS try to breed whenever possible.
If a pairing occurs within a faction, the hatchlings belong to that faction. If there is an interfactional pairing, the pairings however go to the faction that happens to be in favor with the Three Totems! Even if said faction has nothing to do with the pairing in question!

You can be spontaneously be gifted dragons by my friends. However, they will start with Despair 30 due to sudden change of environment. This applies to any dragon coming from outside the nuzlocke.

You can only buy new dragons or get ones in giveaways, raffles, etc. in ad hoc extraordinary circumstances or if, when a nest is vacated, you try to breed and I can't due to incest or any other reasons. In this case you'll try to buy a new dragon to the clan, in particular RTB dragons if your treasure affords that.

NOTE ABOUT EXALTING AND GIVEAWAYS
You can always decide to give away dragons that would be exalted instead.

NOTE ABOUT LAIR ORDER
Since the three first pages, at least, are considere Safe Zone, it's important to determine which dragon has the right to be on the Safe Zone.
My personal order is: (a) the founder of the clan; (b) those dragons on the Nesting Grounds; (c) all dragons and hatchlings without the Mark of Free Will, since they are bound inside the Safe Zone; (d) hatchlings with the Mark of Free Will; (e) the favored caste of the week; (f) the other castes; (g) every new dragon gets a place on the end, regardless of caste; and so things are getting mixed on places (e), (f) and (g) so that outside the borders of the Safe Zone there are dragons of all castes.

@transphinx Oh my, I love this! I especially like the nerfing you did to the CP-Volatile-Possession rolls with the whole Stability-Despair-Fanaticism thing. I might actually steal a bit of that idea and rename my Volatile stat to Fanaticism, if you don't mind. It's closer to what I was trying to go for...

And not a big deal, but jsyk, I'm nonbinary, and I don't generally use he/him. ^_^ Though I'm pretty flexible on pronouns and don't actually mind being called 'he'.

@transphinx Aw, cool! I love meeting other nonbinary people on this website. :D

I usually use ey/em/eir/emself, personally. It's basically all the same forms as 'they' but you take the th- off the beginning of each one.

Since I just implemented the system, so to speak, I made two exceptions to my own general rules.

One, I won't commit infanticide, so I won't exalt or give away the hatchlings who are in my nest right now or any of the hatchlings that come from the eggs on the nests.

Two, I kept three dragons who bear my signature colors, swamp and crimsom.
