The air tastes like stars and adventure. You didn't mean to wake up so late - it's getting close to midnight - but you'd stayed up well past sunrise last night chasing one specific weird bird that's probably long gone by now. That's also most likely why you're curled up around this unfamiliar tree branch right now. No matter - you can find another bird, or maybe a butterfly - a moth, really, because it's nighttime right now - oh, but you think you're hungry, so it might be wise to grab a bite to eat first but hey you eat bugs! You'd nearly forgotten. So if you eat bugs and you're also looking for butterflies and moths and the like you can do both at the same time!
You love multitasking.
At any rate you really have to get off this branch first. It's getting horribly scratchy against your scales now that you're awake enough to notice. You rustle your wings, spread them out all six shimmering in the moonlight - and then you're off.
Off like a rocket or a bolt of lightning or something! Point is, you're going really fast, and it's the best thing that's happened to you tonight. The fact that it's the first thing that's happened to you tonight isn't even relevant. You do a few spins and twirls and loops in the air, even though there's no one to see you but the lake below and all the trees asleep, just because you can.
And look: there's an oddly-coloured bug. This night can't get any better.
The air is warm with anticipation; the breathing of all the gathered dragons fills the air with the feeling of celebration. Lights hang from stalls as ornaments and the scent of various snacks float up to mix into something pleasing. Dragons of every breed jostle each other in the crowded square, but there's hardly a hint of animosity between even the Imperials and Pearlcatchers. You really do love carnivals. You're not actually sure what the festival is for, as you're just passing by on your way home after a vacation, but the atmosphere drew you in and now you're stuck here for at least the rest of the night, if not longer. It's all right - your clanmates back home will understand.
Or at least they would if they ever find out. You're not especially planning on telling them, because a little time off won't hurt anyone. You fold your wings back as flat as they can go, and weave your way through the crowd: slide between a Guardian couple here, duck past a solid Snapper there, and brush softly against the feathers of a Wildclaw. As a Nocturne yourself, you're picking up on stray mannerisms and habits here and there as you watch, and it's fun to try them on before you pass by whoever you're borrowing them from. Right now you have your eye on a stand a few dragon-lengths away: a Lightning-Flight Spiral has a shop set up for his trinkets and charms.
"Hello! Would you be interested in any of these? There's a little robot here, can't do much yet except follow you around but look how cute it is! Comes in all colours and half of all existing breeds - I think I've got a Nocturne model around somewhere, oh but would you like something in the shape of a friend? Perhaps a significant other? Just let me know, okay? Okay! I've also got all these things here..." And he goes on, barely pausing to breathe between sentences and whipping between this-close-to-your-face and all-the-way-over-there by his items. Hanging around Spirals is tiring, but it's also a lot of fun! You take a moment to adjust, and then you're keeping pace with him word for word.
"Oh man, that looks so cool! How much for-" "And I'm selling food, but only a little because my friend makes it and-" "That looks delicious! Do you think-" "Oh no, let me just adjust that, watch your wings-" "I'm so sorry! I didn't mean to knock anything over-" "No, no, it's okay I do that all the time-" And so on and so forth. He flies joyful loops all around you whenever there's space to do so without bothering the other vendors and festival-goers, and you follow him around until both of you collapse in giggling dizzy piles of noodle and bat-wings.
"See you again sometime!" You leave the stand with a happy memory and a few odd trinkets to add to your on-again off-again haphazard collection. You're not sure what you're even collecting half the time, other than things that made you happy when you got them, but you're rather proud of it anyway.

The ground under her feet, summer-soft leaves and light crumbly dirt, shifts as she adjusts her weight back. Her Frostbite Hummingbird, next to her ear, moves to flutter around her in a circle. She laughs and nudges it back with her nose. "Don't be nervous, all we're doing is going out for a little walk." She'd said her brief goodbyes to her brother already, nuzzling his shoulder and receiving in return a reluctant grumble and the comforting weight of his head resting on hers for a few quiet moments. To tell the truth, they aren't really going on just a walk. It's a bit of a journey, from her clan to her destination, but pressure has reached a fracturing point and she's the best negotiator they've got.
She'd insisted on not taking away any competent claws for their clan - they need all the working dragons they can get - for a bodyguard, because she can serve as both diplomat and figurehead, being leader of their clan, but she has to make a conscious effort to ignore the strange sounds coming from behind bushes and in the trees. Arcane dragons aren't meant to trek through Nature territory, but it's what she has to do for the good of everyone in her clan, and so she will. She has her familiar at her side, and the memory of her brother's worried face (he does worry, too much, but he never lets anyone besides her notice) to keep her company. She'll be fine. She hopes.
When she arrives, she's greeted by a fellow spiral. His enthusiasm and odd mannerisms put her at ease, and she giggles along with his gesticulation and excited loop-flying. He's a nice contrast to her brother's brooding silence, although she - no, she's only been away half a day, she can't let herself miss home already! She lets herself be led to the clan leader's living quarters, and bows to a leafy-themed Guardian.
"Hello. It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance."
Terrence is known for many things. He is the great Clan Leader, provider and adviser to any dragon who hopes to serve their clan well. He's brother to Tatiana, the Kind and the Skillful Speaker (there are a great many things to describe her with, but she doesn't hold as much stock as her brother does in titles, and so most of them go undocumented and unofficial, only remembered when they're uttered by her many adoring clanmates). He's wise, ambitious, and efficient when talking dragons over onto his side. He's responsible for the clan's success, is what other dragons believe, although really it's a combination of both siblings' work.
There's a reason he's not designated clan negotiator, though. He stands on his favourite outcrop in the mornings, sunrise at his back and posing Psywurm at his side, just so the rest of the clan is reminded of all the things he's known for and all the things he'll lead them to accomplish. (Later, sometimes he seeks out his sister and all she says is "Aw, not again?" and he mutters into her shoulder all his doubts - what if he's being too overbearing, too intimidating? What if he's not a good co-leader? Everyone likes her more, he's sure, and they're right to do so- And she cuts him off with a solid pat to the snout and firm reassurances, and then he goes back outside with the natural charisma everyone expects from him.)
He's royalty, people whisper in awed tones. He can be a little stubborn at times, but it just goes to show how reliable he is, when whatever problem he's irrationally charging at gives way, and everyone benefits. He's so much dignified, and yet he still has the clan's best interests at heart at all times. (He charges down a grassy hill, letting loose some of that famed Spiral energy with a whoop, and his sister follows right after, taking to the air and grabbing at his tail, both of them delighted at the lack of anyone watching them, the complete freedom to do whatever they want in this moment only.) He's their esteemed ruler, and they adore him as much as he is proud of them.

He's on the hunt for something very, very important. His long, flexible body squeezes into the dark space between two boulders, his own colours blending in with the shadows. The moonlight glints off of his scales, dances across his wings, and he tucks the membrane closer to his body and around the shiner parts in order to hide better. His tail rasps along the ground, and he lifts it to attention, holding himself up so there's only a claw-length of space between his belly and the sand.
He's getting closer - almost close enough. His back just barely brushes the underside of his hiding place, his wings rustling and his scales rattling in the tiniest breeze of cool night air. He draws his back legs in and flares the rearmost set of wings, readying to pounce.
"Venator!" His clanmate laughs and takes flight, holding the remaining half of her meal out of his reach. He settles down, smug as a cat, and nibbles at the portion he managed to nab. "Not again, you goof. The food storage is literally a one-minute flight away - get your own for once!"
About the Styles:
Moment-Style: Little to no plot, shorter (220 words average), focuses on character thought processes and setting details
Retrospect-Style: Narrative, but with fewer words to work with; most of the plot has already happened, and is briefly summarized, before a Moment-Style event happens in the present
Narrative-Style: Like a novel; tends to be longer
Bio-Style: Focuses on traits, personality, and backstory; tends to describe the character's situation rather than a plot
Relationship-Style: Does not have to be for a romantic relationship - the examples above are siblings. Either two companion pieces with mentions of the other character, or one singular piece (no examples for this format).
Backstory-Style: Details for a plot are given, usually for how a dragon got where they currently are. Very similar to Narrative-Style.

He's
royalty, people whisper in awed tones.
