Samhain originally came to Hollowshade to do some research on the Villages forge - wanting to see how shadow dragons work differed from that of fire dragons - , but as she spent more and more time around the Villagers and members of court, she became incredibly comfortable in the vilage. Eventually, as her intended two weeks became two months,Calypso had asked her to stay permanently and become an official Ambassador representing the Fire Flight to the west. Samhain was hesitant at first but eventually agreed. She set up her lair as near to the forge as she could - the warmth radiating from it reminded her of home. It wasn't long after this that she had began speaking to and spending time with Anubis, a timid coatl who was jumpy on his best days. He had been shy and softspoken - the complete opposite of herself. Perhaps this had been why she had been so drawn to him.

Samhain is well known for being blunt and quick witted, traits that have made her a very well respected dragon within the village. She is fairly observant, which can be deadly when paired with his sharp tongue. Despite all of this, he is a wonderful listener and is devoted to Anubis, staying by his side just as she promised that night. The combination of her brash way with words and compassionate soul make her a good choice for ambassador, as she can hold her own in the more intense meetings with the other ambassadors, and still work with her people's best interests at heart.

Samhain had met Anubis shortly after joining Hollowshade. He was shy, soft spoken. But she knew something else was hiding beneath his surface. For months they had politely been civil with each other, but she found herself wanting to learn more about him. So one night, she invited him out on a walk through the mushroom garden with her. He was hesitant at first, looking to his brother for any semblance of advice. Ra was quiet at first, but nodded when his own mate had nudged him and softly told him it could be good for him.

Samhain learned alot that night. Once Anubis started talking, it was like he couldn't stop and just spilled everything to her. How he had always been sickly, as expressed by his pale colored plumage. "I-I'm afflicted. Well, a carrier, actually. O-Of the Nosos Effect. I got it..somehow. I-I can't remember." He explained. Samhain had heard of the Nosos Effect, she knew the basics of it, and knew how the poor male had gotten it. He had been born with it, but she wasn't bothered by it.

They started spending most nights together, he was slowly becoming more relaxed around her. One night, however, it seemed that life had other plans. When Samhain had arrived at the brother's home, Anubis was found cowering in the back of the cave. He was muttering to himself, eyes having a far away look in them. She stood near him, then moved to stand in front of him. It was almost like he was looking at her, but not seeing her."He's having one of his bad nights." Came the voice of Ra from her side. "Is..he going to be okay? Is it became of the Nosos Effect?"

Ra had shook his head."No no, he will be fine. He...i'm not sure if he told you, or if it's my place to tell you, but I'm going to anyway. Anubis was diagnosed with Schizophrenia when we were younger, after we had left our homeclan. The clan we had found after and were in before we came here was...horrid to him. Their medic had diagnosed him, but he became an outcast. Not like we weren't already due to our colors." He scoffed, looking at his brother. "But he had it worse than I did. Everywhere, people made fun of him by telling him something was behind him, knowing he had hallucinations and heard voices. He slowly became paranoid, so one night we just...left."

Samhain watched Anubis as his brother explained. "When he found out he was a carrier of the Nosos Effect, we almost lost him that night. He had one of the worst attacks in his life, becoming nearly fully detatched from reality and not recognizing any of us. We ended up having to isolate him for the night after he became hostile, not wanting to risk him attacking the hatchlings that Serenity and I had just had." Serenity had joined her mate by this time, nuzzling under his neck in support. "I..he would understand if you wanted to avoid him. It would hurt..but it wouldn't be the first time." Ra had added.

Samhain turned slowly to look at Ra, with a look one could only describe as firey determination."I'm not leaving him. He's my best friend, and I love him." She had admitted, turning back to Anubis. With a bout of quick thinking, she settled beside him and gently started to sing soothing lullabies from her homeland. Ra watched in wonder as his brother started to calm down, the life returning to his eyes as he came back. Anubis had looked at her, blinking. Samhain finished her lullaby and smiled at him. "Welcome back, stranger." She teased.

A couple of weeks after that incident, they were having their usual walk amongst the mushrooms when Anubis stopped suddenly, making Samhain stop as well. She looked at him confused, and he just smiled at her in a goofy manner. "I love you too, by the way." Was all he said before he started walking again - leaving the fiery coatl at a loss for words. He had heard her confession! She scrambled to catch up with him, making him chuckle at her.

As they walked, they discussed many things. Including the mutual idea of becoming mates. "But..our young will be afflicted too." He had pointed out. She just chuckled. "So? I will love each and every one of them just the same as I love you." It was those words that sealed the deal for him, that made him know she was the one. Around her, his mind calmed down and he felt...Safe..
