starrystorm

cas, WAKE UP: Week 2 Selection
15/05/23 - 21/05/23

Personality: Incredibly chatty and extroverted, and is a very good judge of character, sometimes eerily so. She can get along with most types, but particularly enjoys surrounding herself with fellow creatives. Tends to think of things in unusual ways, and always seems to have an interesting story to tell on whatever's being talked about in the moment. Her mannerisms can occasionally give off the impression that she's rather innocent and naive, but gods help you if you try to take advantage of her projected gullibility. There is nothing StarryStorm hates more than those who would manipulate others. Has severe claustrophobia, to the point where she prefers sleeping under the stars to sleeping in a den, even in extreme weather.

Occupation/Role/Abilities: A maker of wings, both decorative and functional. She operates out of a shop in the Colonnades of Antiquity.

In terms of abilities, she only really has her inborn Wind magic, only ever used to give her less mechanically sound creations that little boost where their practicality in actual flight fails. More remarkable is what strange abilities she hasn't developed given where she's been.

Backstory: Born in a small village between Wind and Plague, StarryStorm was raised to join her deity on the battlefield, and ended up marching with unparalleled fervor into a battle against her elemental neighbours she never quite understood the true reasoning behind. Reality shattered those heroic illusions, however- as did, may we say, unreality. For it was the Argus Collective at her side, and even in the state of glory it had maintained in those days, it was still an ill omen, a blight on the land it crossed.

The particular misfortune that would end StarryStorm's unfounded heroism was one that spelled far deeper consequences for the Collective that harboured it, but StarryStorm would not stay around to learn of it. Not when the thing that erupted on that battlefield had taken hold of her, the flurry of cold, unfeeling blades excising from her anything that had the misfortunate of coming to the surface. Her motivations, her homeland, her name…

It was about then that the now-nameless Tundra began to run. The world fell away from her- faces and broken bodies melting into shadow, features of the terrain vanishing into mist. She had been backed up to the edge of the Wyrmwound when it happened, but as she stumbled down it- unaware of how many other dragons she tripped over in their collective, unaware haste to simply escape- to find anyone else when all bonds between them and those around them had been broken- it felt like perfectly flat, featureless ground.

StarryStorm ran until she no longer felt alone. Until the Scarred Wasteland’s crimson earth gave way to the cracked ground of Dragonhome. Until she could see an end to the path before her, feel the sun on her fur, register how much everything hurt. The recollections of where- and who- she was simply failed to materialize, and so, bereft of a concrete answer, she continued wandering until her legs gave way under her.

The name StarryStorm was given to her by the Earth clan who found her and took her in, on the verge of death with broken wings and no story to her name. The merchants and healers of the Colonnades became her new family, and the peaceable life of a craftsman her new story. Though her wings eventually healed, she kept the old attachments that had helped her fly as they returned to functionality, and, fascinated by the construction thereof, learned how to construct more.

And thus began a small wingsmith’s shop, placed as close to the sky as it could, watching over its kin with all the kindness of the Wind dragon that beams at passers-by from its brightly-coloured storefront. A tangle of pennants going every which way bind it to the world beneath, physical reminders of the deep connectedness that pervades the market, something not even the thousand frozen sabers, the tendrils of the Breaker of Bonds that had cut StarryStorm loose from her old life, could snake their way into.

A handful of other details: -So good at collecting penpals, you wouldn't be able to tell Crim from Pinkerton in comparison. She writes several hundred letters a month.
-When logistics align in order for them to hang out together, StarryStorm is always glad to catch up with Lynette. She's one of her penpals, and they get on like a house on fire! Though Lynette hasn't entirely sold her on the idea of fashionable mutations yet, they're always swapping styling tips.
- Quite fond of bunnies! She keeps several with her at all times.
- The reason her Wind-magic-for-wing-boosts is actually necessary is because she has a penchant for adding silks and gauzes to her designs that aren't aerodynamic at all. Thus is the price of inspiration.
- She tests all her creations on herself first. Others find her acquired capacity for sustaining injury to be quite impressive.
