TOPIC | Dragon breed whose eggs take 1 year
I'm not really personally compelled by mechanics that are designed to be frustrating and time-consuming in this way, and it's such a niche thing that requires so much time and effort for comparitively very little reward that I can't see many people actually being happy with these. One of those things that's a kinda neat idea in concept, but I think it would actually go down like a lead balloon.

considering that dragons being cheap and easy to obtain is quite literally one of the goals of the devs, I'm not seeing this getting implemented... ever. Nor do I support it, we have plenty of things that can be turned into long term goals.

Might I suggest you try to save up for a gen 1 imperial, or a 3 digit dragon? Those are both extremely long term dragon oriented goals, if items aren't your thing.

I feel like this is way too much against the spirit of the game, and we already have difficult-to-obtain projects as is. So no support from me, unfortunately.

Imagine you spend a year incubating an egg only to end up with the ugliest colors imaginable. Nah bro.

Oh no, no support. Would you have to incubate them EVERY day for 1 whole year?? That would be awful.
-snip- i just fundamentally disagree that all dragons being easy to get makes the game better. one of the main reasons i tend to lose interest in this site for long periods is that it feels like theres no point to putting in all the work to get nice pairs because all dragons pretty much sell for the same price anyways. The breeding system is my favorite part of this game but it simply doesnt feel rewarding to sell the dragons i put a lot of effort into at the same price as pairs i simply threw together. I dont think having one breed of dragon thats much more difficult to obtain would be such a huge deal. there would be still be tons of cheap dragons out there for people who prefer them. i also would like *more* artificial scarcity on this game although i disagree with it irl. i am just bored of it because everything seems so easy to get and its a core component of many game designs i just think it would be cool to have a way to reward players who stick to the game for a long period of time
Dragons aren't meant to be a moneymaker. By the very nature of the game, they're easy to get. There is nothing wrong with the dragon market with them being cheap, that's always going to be the case. It never fails that if your main drive for the game is to sell expensive dragons, you either find a new drive or quit. This just isn't the game for that. I would like some nice long-term goals for the game too, but artificially making something scarce? There's no sense of accomplishment in that. The user isn't doing anything but sitting around. Patience hardly works either, imo, since again, there's nothing the user could do otherwise anyways. We need rewards for players who put in effort, not just for ones sitting on their butts for a year doing nothing. To go in the vein of your suggestion, a breed change scroll or eggs in the AAA for a hefty sum of points. That would drive players to log on to complete their dailies, weeklies, and monthlies, for enough points to afford them. If not a dragon, then something else players will want more than one of(retired items would be my pick).

i dont hate the idea tbh

I do think asking for the player to incubate the nest every day for a year is a bit too much. If it was something like a separate nest that just like had its own special timer and boons couldn't be used on it i'd be okay with it. let me an hatch a g1 imperial that way lol

Absolutely no support especially if this is the thing. Scarcity for no reason ≠ good. If they had a reason to be scarce other than just trying to be a big moneymaker, then *maybe*, but otherwise they just seem like a headache.

I worry that a change like this would at best be far too grindy like others have said, but at worst could create a toxic atmosphere to FR. People who can spend significant amounts of money would do so, and not everyone on here can. Some just due to financial reason and others like the number of kids that use the site. I would worry that dragons like this would create a sense of "elitism" on the site. It could ruin the fun for a large majority of players. In general I just find games that go too far on the artificial rarity end can be a slippery slope.

Also I would be concerned about how dangerously close it would get towards gambling. Sure, a little G1 rng can be fun. But that much time and investment could leave a not good impression on younger players. Video games have had issues with loot box systems and issues with gambling.

I like the creativity of the idea, and if you like the idea of that kind of challenge, go ahead. Make a forum of your projects and goals, post your progress. However, a full site implementation of this has the cons others have brought up, plus at worst could bring up the issues I worry about.

Support! This'd be a really funny idea for maybe a Marva-related ancient. Like Oh boy an ancient egg from MARVA? And bam, these fellas have eggs that take a whole year to hatch (maybe there's a special nest separate from your main nests so you don't have those taken up by this lol)
It's silly and I dig it!
