I love figuring out names for dragons, finding the perfect name feels so satisfying!
Use this thread to share dragons with names that you find interesting or otherwise have interesting explanations.
I'll start with some of my more complex-in-origin names:
Emereli
Name is inspired by the name of a character from the webshow Drawtectives, the name being "Emery". I had recently watched it when I joined Flight Rising, so it was on the mind. Not to mention, I had randomly rolled an emerald dragon for my second progen, so the name seemed fitting.
Gooey and Scooey
A reference to the first Criken video I watched where he was playing Amnesia. He calls the slime on the floors and walls "gooey-scooey". He's the earliest youtuber I watched that I still watch!
Adamite
A reference to the mineral of the same name. I used this gemstone for my gemsona, and I want to make a comic about them one day.
Spots
I asked my sister what I should name him and she said "Spot". I changed it to "Spots" because it sounded too much like a dog's name, lol
Brimvvel
I wanted a dragon with a name that used the double-d "th" sound like Blaidd from Elden Ring, but I misremembered what letter it was. Regardless, his name is pronounced "Brimthel" 'cause I'm pretentious like that.
Dublone
I adopted them with this name. I'm pretty sure the original owner meant to type "Doubloon", but I could be wrong.
Middel
I often misspell words on purpose and use them as names, just for fun.
Rember
Do you rember... twenny-furst nite of sember... (I like to sing that to myself sometimes, it's a vocal stim)
Metachrosi
From "metachrosis", a word referring to an animal's ability to change color. I imagine his colors fluctuate!
Verdugo
A reference to Resident Evil 4! Also just a cool word. It means "executioner" in Spanish.
Uorukurora
A reference to this Dragcave dragon of mine. It means "Wall Crawler" in Japanese! (according to google translate)
Parallax
Refers to the form of scrolling that backgrounds do in side-scrollers to imply depth.
Stairpin
A reference to a specific poster for the old horror movie "PIN". It features a staircase with a wheelchair at the top and blood dripping from it.
Cornbread
I love cornbread, so I named him after it. Simple as that!
Meltwater
It refers to water that specifically comes from melted glaciers. I find that interesting, for some reason.
Chrometopho
From "chometophobia", the fear of spending money, a real phobia I struggle with at times.
Crepuscula
From "crepuscular", meaning "relating to twilight". I made a princess Celestia recolor many years ago and named her the same.
Stikehyr
Based on mushrooms from the "forsakens" mod for the game Rimworld. They are called "stikehr", but I added a "y" to make it read better to those unfamiliar.
Opisthe
Effectively means "located behind". I haven't written out her lore yet, but basically she's a jester with a tendency to tell her jokes backwards.
Cadaverine
Another Elden Ring inspired name, this time it's a reference to "corpse wax", also known as cadaverine.
Cucurbita
From the scientific name for pumpkins!
Pipeestrello
Named after the batt enemies from Vampire Survivors. Another vocal stim of mine. (pronounced pippy-stree-O)
Glace
Supposed to have an accent mark over the E. Sadly, accent marked letters aren't currently allowed in names.
BloodRust
A combination of "Blood lust" and "Rust". Her name and appearance are references to Silent Hill, my favorite horror franchise.
Incendios
A reference to my favorite Arca song, "incendio".
Stadium
When I was a kid, my grandparents hosted a fourth-of-July event at a stadium parking lot field every year. Sadly, a movie theater was built over the field and they couldn't hold the events any more.
BonBon
A reference to Pleasure Bonbon, an old furry NSFW webcomic that I've never read (I swear, lol), but I always liked the name of.
ForgetMeSo
Her name, which is a reference to forget-me-nots, was originally "ForgetMeYes". I changed it to be more accurately opposite.
Canvas
She was the first dragon I re-gened. A fitting name, I think!
I have more, but I think I should stop here...
