The cake is a lie!
Today Mus Rattus will make an... interesting sweet and bitter (contrasting flavors) cake.
First, he takes some strips of [item = amethyst striker] amethyst striker (meat) which is known to be quite bitter. He mashes it with some [item = merry melon] merry melon (plant) and forms it into bitter patties. Then he takes some shaving cream (nonfood item 1) and uses it as glue to stick the patties together in the rough shape of a layered cake.
Next, he uses some [item = honeybee] honeybee (insect) mixed with water to create a chunky icing, that he slathers onto the cake. After that, he takes a bar of brown soap (nonfood item 2) and starts to cut curls off of it, to look like chocolate sprinkles! Then it's time for decoration. First, he adds a robot figurine (nonfood item 3) to the middle as a centerpiece. [item = cinnamon loach] Cinnamon loaches (seafood) are placed around the flower for a sweet kick. To match the robotic theme, he adds wires (nonfood item 4) to the sides as decoration. He also adds two plastic rings (nonfood item 5), one orange and one blue as an homage to a certain game. They stick out of the cake! Finally, to get the little robot in the middle to light up, he gets a friend to infuse it with lightning magic (magic).

Today Mus Rattus will make an... interesting sweet and bitter (contrasting flavors) cake.
First, he takes some strips of
Amethyst Striker
Meat
After consuming the bitter flesh, dragons will often disagree whether to preserve the hide or pick out the glittering gems. (KS Sponsored by Opal.)

Plant
Deceptive in both name and appearance, only the heartiest of dragons can stomach this unexpectedly bitter fruit. (Special thanks to Winterrox66!)

The only insect that comes presweetened.

First, he adds a robot figurine (nonfood item 3) to the middle as a centerpiece.
Cinnamon Loach
Seafood
These surprisingly sweet fish resemble candy canes, and are a popular gift among seafood eating dragons. (Special thanks to Surpirate!)

The mushroom oil’s pungent umami flavor will add an extra layer to the food.
As for the last thing… it took some time to get it, but thankfully she was able to get in contact with one of her clan’s couriers and they brought it over before the end of the cook.

Nighti, Minju and Stroh are still very busy, molding the flowers with their talons. They are unable to accept the vase. Not wanting it be damaged accidentally, everyone agrees it was best for the courier to hang on to it.

Then we have the Dew Laden White Rose. This one is made with Cinnamon Loach paste (sweet) that was mixed with a cup of Pelagas tea (bitter).
Lastly, the Heatherbed Lily. It’s just a slab of Butter stick that we’re shaping to look like a lily. We’re not baking this one. Letting a Mushelisk into a serious competition was almost never a good idea - with the species' penchant for mischief, plenty of unlucky souls had the most unpleasant memories with the "food" that these dragons thought were funny to serve to another actual living thing.
Fortunately, for this batch of judges, it was Laurel who entered the fray, a signature mischievous smile on his face. It was in his nature to prank and confuse the rest, yes, but what better moment to do it when the competition literally demanded it? The Mushelisk rubbed his paws together before settling down the basket of ingredients on the counter and got to work.
Laurel started by rolling up some pastry dough with a huge amount of [gamedb item=51956] in it, the egg yolks mixed in giving it a glossy sheen. At first, it appeared like he was baking a simple pie with the blueberries he was taking out of the basket - but oh no, it was much more nuanced than that. Once the dough was done, Laurel worked on marinating the [gamedb item=3021] in a chili-lime mix, a taste that no one would expect in a pie. To keep the illusion, he even made sure to add the proper lattice patterns on top with a few blueberries as the topping. The savory and pleasantly acidic fish meat was the perfect contrast to the sweet pastry - the surgling meat was even blue, like the fruit it was supposed to mimic! [bonus: contrasting flavors, sweet + sour + spicy]
His next creation would need some of his species' trickery magic - it began with shaping vanilla ice cream to resemble spaghetti, a task only made possible via a spell that allowed him to manipulate matter in the same way he would water. To create the cream sauce, Laurel simply used some delicious homemade whipped cream, sprinkling it with chocolate chips to imitate the pepper and herbs. Elderberries were the final garnish on the top, to replace the black truffles and caviar that would have otherwise been there in an actual pasta dish. The little Mushelisk magic he added also made sure it would never melt until it reached a dragon's mouth! [bonus: magic infused into dish]
Finally, Laurel grinded [gamedb item=10869], [gamedb item=10870], [gamedb item=10871], and [gamedb item=10872] into powder - those were going to be his colorings for these batch of goodies he was going to bake! Pouring all purpose flour, brown sugar, vanilla extract and a bunch of [gamedb item=163] (for the final purple color to complete the rainbow). When the rainbow muffins were taken out of the oven, he topped them off with star-shaped rainbow sprinkles to make them look even more colorful and chaotic. Finally, while serving them on a plate, Laurel placed a few cookies, shaped and colored after [gamedb item=10214], [gamedb item=16038], [gamedb item=1007] and [gamedb item=57] respectively to represent the ingredients used in a cheeky way - they tasted absolutely fine, like a regular sweet berry muffin! No one would ever suspect it. [bonus: all types of food + at least 5 non database ingredients (sugar, flour, elderberries, sprinkles, vanilla extract, ice cream, limes etc.)]
Oh, indeed, it was lucky that an actually kind Mushelisk had graced them with his presence today - these might be pranks to satisfy Laurel's mischief quota, but at least it wasn't any rotten food or foul-smelling tricks that he knew some of his brethren would play. They'll be rather confused and have their palette messed up at worst, but it would all still taste delicious, and Laurel looked at the judges' table in anticipation with a grin as everyone else finished their dishes - he can't wait to see the surprise on their faces!

Tempest hastily approached the table when word of tart meat dumplings reached his ears. Barely taking time to greet the chef, he eagerly scooped a couple off of the tray and popped one into his mouth. The tartness of the berries burst from its meaty shell and gave every taste bud a pleasant zing.

"Hmmm, it seems the meat has been cooked thoroughly and no pathogens remain to contaminate the berry paste." Taking a bite, he noticed the subtle sweetness of the meat that encased the even sweeter jelly within. "And a lovely flavor profile!"

- However this is an easy to change recipe, it requires low effort and uses the ingredients you may have at home. For meat lovers, Mama Mona would recommend heartred croaker legs. Their bright colors offer a beautiful pop of color to the already beautiful red lasagna. For plant lovers, pond plates offer a great alternative to the lasagna noodles. If there's no frozen lasagna to spare, pond plates and bottled sauce creates a type of lasagna! Then for seafood lovers, there's yellow frilled eels, when marinated well they offer a slight taste of citrus, breaking through the cheesiness of the recipe. All these protein ingredients are readily available from the Mire.

If anyone knows how to stretch a coin and make delicious enjoyable meals for her kids, it'll be Mama Mona! And nothing offers better options than the tacos she made last time. Mama Mona will be cooking up:
Cheesy Lasagna Pie
- Previously a deliciously rich cheese sauce blended with sour cream creates a perfect addition to Mama Mona's favorite frozen meal!
- Frozen lasagna doesn't last very long in the household, but Mama Mona enjoys this easy to prep dish the most. Especially the ones that come in a large size so she could pop in the oven to feed the whole family!
- Mama Mona recommends topping the cheesy deliciousness with crispy fried common mosquitos . They offer a delightful crunch to the gooey and creamy textures of the cheesy lasagna. Insect enjoyers rejoice, this meatless and plantless lasagna is a truly addicting dish!

“Food on a budget?” Nerith gives a knowing nod. This one, she can handle alone. She’s by far the most resourceful cook in the clan— a skill often sorely put to the test in the earlier years. Even now, when they wake up to find their food stores gone, none of them can help the wave of panic as someone stumbles to find the food pantry. “Right. I’ve got just the thing for that.”
Out of… somewhere, it’s not entirely clear where, she produces an entire roasted turkey: [item=Turkey Dinner]. And then, even more strangely, one that looks… insubstantial [item=Incorporeal Dinner]. Wherever she reached, it wasn’t the forge. Selrath, watching from across the clearing, gives an audible sigh. Apparently she’s seen this trick more than once before. (Bonus: Ready made meal, using only one food type, food used only drops from one Coli Venue)
“Yes, yes. Onto the downsides.” Nerith’s boundless enthusiasm can’t be quelled by that. “Sometimes enemies turn into already-cooked dinner when you kill them for food. Turkeys, specifically. Even the ghost ones do. It’s very weird. You’d think it’s great right up until you figure out that half your clan can’t eat meat. Like, actually can’t, not just don’t want to.” Selrath, for example. The one staring at her pointedly right now.
“But! We have a solution for even that. You see, I brought up the weird ghost one for a reason.” Nerith sets the normal, definitely meat, dinner down off to the side and brings out a large cauldron. “It isn’t a real meat dish. It’s only in the shape of one. You could say it’s… mimicking real food. And so, if you merely encourage that tendency…” She tosses the dinner-shaped thing carelessly into the cauldron, then dumps in what’s very clearly some of the [item=Mimic Powder] that she’s just carrying around with her now that she’s showing off cooking this week. This is possibly one of the reasons Selrath is so tired. (Bonus: Included ingredient from a meal used in [s]a[/s] every single previous day, even if it was optional in one of them)
Without further explanation, she sets the cauldron on top of the forge and jams a stick into it to start stirring vigorously. At regular intervals, she adds another insubstantial dinner-shaped… thing, as well as more mimic dust. Somehow it’s melting down to leave rainbow swirls of several bright colours inside the cauldron. And yet, she keeps stirring, and slowly it starts… changing, again… different layers of goo separating and resolving themselves into what looks like… food. Facsimiles of food, maybe, but… food. A fishy nugget. A turkey nugget. A… bug nugget…? A plant nugget??? And yet, there they are: [item=Soylent Blue][item=Soylent Red][item=Soylent Yellow][item=Soylent Green]
“There! You see? Now there is delicious, delicious turkey that is actually… not turkey anymore, given physical form as things all my clanmates can share and eat with me. Isn’t it wonderful?”
…
The distinct silence subtly implies that Nerith is the only one who terms her cooking ‘wonderful’ on a regular basis.

This reddish wedge of matter is super tasty! No, really! It does not smell weird at all! EAT IT. IT IS SHAPED LIKE A DRUMSTICK.

Hi there! I just happened to be checking my tickets for this week, and noticed I don't have anything for my submission on Sunday. Did I not get enough recipe down for the points? ^^;;

The team station fridge is full of uneaten food, so at least it's not tough to find some leftovers. Ugh. Tanager's snout wrinkles in mild disgust as they spot most of a... a stingray covered in whole fish and cheese sauce, the judges clearly turned down that one. And then a... a meat cake with frosting on it? What have the others been doing?
They yank out one of the frozen bowls of [gamedb item=2413]to examine. Hm. That might do... if they're really just trying to make something cheap. Yeah. Someone really did leave a lot of honey in here (bonus: including ingredients from a meal used in a previous day). Helpful.

Tanager sets the honey aside and goes to the main pantry, unwilling to so much as touch most of what their careless teammates have made. It really is bare in here, no wonder they're budgeting this round... hm.....
Tanager makes off with a wilted packet of [gamedb item=22381]. They toss it immediately into a bowl with the [gamedb item=2413] (bonus: using only one food type- plants + food used only drops from one coli venue- training fields). There's a reason it hasn't been touched, it's droopy and ugly looking. Only good for rendering down into a glaze.
Back to the pantry they go for something to put the glaze on. Hmph.
Hmmm.
Ah. There's something.
Tanager takes their Stouffer's Homestyle Mashed Potatoes Frozen Side Dish™ (bonus: using prepackaged/ready made meals) back to where their glaze is simmering and heats it up before pouring steaming sauce onto the equally steaming potatoes.
Delicious... and cheap!

[nextcol]Today’s challenge was very well-suited to Stroh’s interests, so the Tundra took full responsibility and gave Minju and Nighti a day off (they went right back to sleep).
The judges want something cheap and easy to make lots of, frugal and not break the bank. Sounds like the perfect time to make soup! Budget-friendly and easy to make, it is the perfect comfort food when one has a rough day.[/columns]
While he can cook with insects, meats and seafood if needed, today he decided to make soup that is entirely plant-based (bonus: using only one food type).
A shame they used all the Pelagas tea from yesterday, he could have made a simplistic Ochazuke which is green tea over rice.
Thankfully, the judges supplied them with (bonus: prepackaged and ready made meals), and he got his paws on a Ready to Eat Wild Mushroom Flavoured Rice.
In a pan, he began to sauteed and toast the meal with the Mushroom Oil from yesterday, then added a cup of the Sunbeam Fig Wine, the one that Minju had made, for some acidity. Meanwhile, he was bringing a broth of his leftover [gamedb item=21364], charred [gamedb item=21384], [gamedb item=21369] (bonus: food used only drops from one Coli Venue, Volcanic Vents), and mineral water to a rolling boil. Once the rice and wine were infused, he ladled the broth into the pan and mixed it all together. He repeated the process of ladling broth and stirring it into the rice until he felt the rice was soft. He then poured the rice into a bowl and then poured the remaining broth.
He finished the dish with a sprinkle of Cindermint and Peppermint, the same herbs used from Taco Tuesday. Once completed, he took a step back and observed, for a frugal dish it looks pretty fancy!
