@kaijuno8 those dragons are actually decent close in color rings, you may calculated the Obe's tert wrong
What happened with her is that my starting pair had a fairly wide range on the secondary, so I bought her in case my best is a really far out one. Of course i had to luck out with my sole male being the one that landed really close to Oilslick on the secondary, so I can't really use her now (but thankfully she's pretty anyway so no ragrets, lol). I just searched up the color range and found one dragons that's the exact combo I want (just wrong element) but the user seems to have been inactive a while (shame activity does not account for year). And there are 2 actives that would provide a very close range, but I'd have to see if either are willing to sell/rent. May just try to get ahold of a female within the ranges and pray to rngsus since it's already a pain doing this for one line, never mind having to try breeding two.

@KaijuNo8

Hey there! If this happened to me, here's what I would do! Hopefully it helps you with planning your next step.

1) Ensure the fae and Obe aren't related.
2) Put them in hibden
3) go back to AH for another set of far ranges.

I would do that because the two dragons you have won't give you the right secondary, but neither are super far from Oilslick. I would find another pair that has the chance of popping out kids in the Hunter-Forest-Cameo, Oilslick-Black-Obsidian, and Mint-Jade-Spearmint direction and go from there. Basically, I would keep the two you already have as dragons to use to "finalize", but not breed them with each other. In the event you have to breed this baby without help from closer dragons, this would be what I do. The large amount of fodder babies created will help offset the cost if that's a concern! And yeah, sometimes you get colour combos that are super rare and the only thing you can do is beg for patience and the favour of RNG. *squints at the dragons I'm working with*

Hopefully this provided some assistance, best of luck with your goal!

Edit: I went back to look at the dragons again and if you were the one to add the note "BR (2 low, 8 high, 54 low) " to the Obe, that range doesn't look correct. Including the goal colours, you'd be looking at 0/+6/-2. If that note is from someone else, then ignore this bit!

@KaitoWang - As I told Saturnpunk earlier, the Obe was just one I grabbed anticipating not getting within range of Obelisk so I can pull one step closer, but I ended up with that male fae being much closer, lol.

Seems like either way, I'm not going to be using her. Especially now that I found someone with a very closely colored female (a Hunter-Oilslick-Spearmint) willing to let me breed my fae with her when he's ready, so I'm probably gonna just fight rng a bit with that, HAHAHA. Thanks for the help though! This is my first actual breeding project (got insanely lucky with my first couple dream fandragons) so I wanted to see what the best options are before I finally remembered I can search all site dragons.

I'll be sure to apply what i've learned to my next projects though once I finally find suitable starting pairs.

Thanks again!!!

@KaijuNo8 I did the math out of curiosity. You are looking at a 1 in 10 chance for your goal colors, so 1 in 20 if you dream dragon needs to be a specific sex.

Hunter - 0
Coal - Oilslick - 2
Pistachio - Spearmint - 5

2 x 5 = 10 (x2 for sex = 20)

Just so that you know your odds :D

But yes searching all site dragons is a real lifesaver xD I am very grateful to all the dragon owners who let us borrow their dragons for projects

Hey, I am new and been looking for breeding guides until I found yours! Thank you for writing up so much for us!

One question, am I just blind and did not see Fathoms and Dusthides in your Back to Basics: Breed section? Moreso because I am even more curious as to how one goes about obtaining a Fathom (I like the idea of obtaining dragons through gameplay most out of all possible options).

My thanks in advance!

@Implozia That's because ir was written before those were released haha. I'll try and add them when I have a moment. As for obtaining, I recommend you look up their breed change scroll in the game database. If I remember correctly, they can drop from Pinkerton, Tomo, and the Coliseum

Ohhh the 2024 post date must've fooled me then, sorry!
WAIT, that's what confused me! They don't yield unhatched eggs like Bladwin's and NotN, but they give breed change scrolls! When I looked at their Ecyclopedia page, Tomo's and Pinkerton's was mentioned and made me confused as to how one aquires them, or what you actually get.

i'm really glad this thread is here, wish i'd known about DWF the last time i had a breeding project lol

so, i'm already pretty entrenched in one project - it's for a bronze boa/abyss saddle/tert flexible, the cyan-mint range would work but i'm dialing in on cyan for this stage because it's readily available. tert gene doesn't super matter, either. the dergs i'm breeding now are probably at the great-grandparent level, though it's been difficult for me to qualify what generation my pairs are based on how far they are from the goal. some pairs are much closer than others in the primary or tert range, and it's been nailing down the secondary range in conjunction with the other two that's been my bane for this generation. the current pairs are here, and the dragons i'm using for the next generation, that are all within 5 of the target, are here. i've been going back to the AH periodically and picking up new blood. since boa and saddle aren't that expensive i'm not trying too hard to breed them in, but if i do get it that's a bonus.

the issue i've created for myself is that i have some siblings in the current generation - two sets, actually, the bronze/phthalo/abyss ridge and fathom and the two capsule imperials. i didn't even notice what i'd done until after i'd bought them all and went to assay everybody :crylaughing emoji: the other problem, which might solve itself with time, is that about half the dragons in the den tab are from one of the pairs, because no one else has thrown more than one viable kid.

i did have a vague idea of making a breeding pair, but it's very possible i've borked myself out of getting just one dragon without adding more generations of pairs to thin out the bloodlines. so the thing i need advice on is how best to dig myself out of this hole i put myself in unintentionally :')

@peanutbutterjar I will take a look in a few minutes, but the only one pair throwing viable kids isn't completely adnormal, but it may warrant some investigation into the other pairs
