 Vinha and Amorra snuggled close together in their den, tails intertwined as they both watched in anticipation. Their eyes glimmered with excitement, yet their smiles were calm as they awaited the hatching of their second nest. Vinha couldn’t help but feel a little anxious, of course— perhaps she had simply inherited such traits from her father, but Amorra was quick to grab her claw, giving it a gentle, reassuring squeeze. They would be there for their hatching eggs, and each other, every step of the way. The two eggs rocked and cracked methodically, as though the hatchlings inside were already in perfect tune with one another, somehow. A tiny paw first burst out from one shell, and a stubby tail from the other, thrashing and reaching and itching to burst free and see the exciting new world that awaited them outside the cozy darkness of the egg. They rocked and lurched forward, before the egg with a tail sticking out if it soon had a pair of paws sticking out as well, and the egg with paws exposed soon had a tail. And finally, in perfect unison, a pair of hatchlings burst forth, freeing themselves from their eggs and tumbling into one another in a flurry of stone-coloured hide and scales as pale as cream. The siblings both squeaked in equal surprise, before simultaneously looking up at one another. Sky-pale eyes lit up in awe as the sisters who already seemed so familiar properly saw one another for the first time, grabbing each other’s talons and staring with wide, curious eyes. ... Sisters. Vinha lifted her head in slight surprise at herself, tilting it for a moment. But she could feel it, deep inside, somehow. She’d hatched twin sisters. Looking up into Amorra’s sapphire-deep eyes, she could tell that her beloved felt the same way, and the bearded Sandsurge smiled in that reassuring way of hers. Just as they were there for each other, they’d be there for both of their new little darlings as they grew and slowly found themselves. —Written by Sectonia |
