Biography
xxxDOMINIKxxx
GENDER: Dragon (Lesbian) [he/him] AFFILIATION: [CURRENT] Name The Clan Someday [ PRIOR ] Vitali OCCUPATION: Lead Trainer, Clan Head LOCATION: Seedscar ELEMENT: Plague |
Dominik, as a descendant of the legendary warrior Vitali, carries the same aura of strength as his great-grandmother, as well as the same strong desire to protect others. Though he'll never be quite the same legend as she was, he is quite content with the life he's made for himself, protecting a small clan alongside his charge and mate, Niftywing. With each new dragon that passes through, whether they're only staying for a short while or becoming a permanent mainstay in the lair, Dominik finds that the strength of his conviction to protect his family only grows ever stronger. |

A halberd crashed into the ground and sent a shower of dirt into the air, the target of its attack jumping out of the way in the nick of time. Dominik flapped his wings to gain some ground as Niftywing pulled her halberd out of the dirt and charged him again. He loved that about her, always pressing the attack, getting close enough for her halberd to reach but not close enough for any chance of a counter attack.
Dominik knew how to get through her guard though, and with a surge from his powerful hind legs, he lunged at her. Niftywing was ready for him of course, but she couldn't change the trajectory of her attack and her halberd sparked harmlessly off of his scale armor.
Careful not to truly hurt her, Dominik turned his head to hit her with the side of his helmet instead of the spikes. He crashed into her and flung her away with a mighty flick of his neck. Niftywing rolled as she landed, getting back to her feet in an instant, but her halberd wasn't within reach. Dominik didn't give her a chance to recover it, he rushed her and spun around, tail dragging in the dirt as he whipped it her way.
With a crackling sound, Niftywing morphed into her statue form, a brilliant mass of pink diamond glittering in the sun. Dominik's tail, even armored and spiky as It was, failed to do any damage to her. As soon as his tail cleared her body, she shifted back and tackled him in the side, aiming to knock him to the ground. Dominik's claws dug deep into the earth as he tried to keep his balance, but with Niftywing putting her whole weight behind her shove, he ended up toppling over anyway.
He landed on his wing painfully and as he struggled to get up, Niftywing surged forward and clamped her jaws around the back of Dominik's neck, right around the spine. Dominik froze, knowing a single bite could either kill him or permanently damage him. He could try to gore her with his horns, she seemed to be in range of them if he tilted his head back, but he didn't want to hurt her. With a mighty breath let out in a gust of air, he said, "I yield."
Niftywing let him go and backed up to give him the space to get back on his feet. Dominik shook himself of dirt and dust and extended his wing to get the pain out. "Well done," he said.
Her expression may have been only a smile, but Dominik could tell Niftywing was beaming inside thanks to the excited tapping of her front feet as she sat. "Thank you. I can't believe I finally bested you! I mean, when you knocked my halberd away I thought I was a goner, but I managed to shift just in the nick of time! I've gotten faster at that, you know? I can do it in almost an instant now! I'm just glad I'm something tough like diamond or else I might be in pieces right now!"
Dominik smiled as he listened to her ramble. He could easily stand there for the rest of the day and listen to her voice, but that wouldn't be very productive. Instead, he nodded toward the side of the training yard where there was water and shade. Without a word, he began walking over to the canteen.
"Yeah, a break does sound good right now," Niftywing said. She started to follow him before she paused and darted back into the training yard to retrieve her halberd. Dominik took a long drink before laying down in the shade, rolling his sore wing and watching as Niftywing took her own drink.
"Whew," Niftywing said as she plopped down next to Dominik. She was close enough to feel the heat of her, but not close enough to touch. Dominik longed to close those few inches.
They sat in comfortable silence for a little while, but like always, it was broken by Niftywing. It only took the first intake of breath to get Dominik smiling again.
"Do you ever wonder if the Tidelord has a charge?" she asked.
Dominik tilted his head in thought. "Why would he?"
"He's kind of like a Guardian, right?" She turned to look Dominik up and down. "He made the Guardians, right? So would he have modeled them after his own experiences or is the search just out of his imagination?"
"Hmm," Dominik rumbled. He wanted to immediately dismiss the idea, but it was an intriguing train of thought. "What could his charge be, if he had one?"
"I don't know." She tilted her head and brought a claw to her chin. "Maybe the Guardian species as a whole? But then there's Undertides too so probably not… It can't be something so intangible as the future, right? That's not something Guardians can protect." She turned to peer at Dominik.
"Some Guardians do take ideas on as charges, if they feel strongly about them. I don't believe that's valid though, a charge is supposed to be tangible, something you can hold." Dominik turned to look at his own charge, her innocent eyes unknowing of the truth. He had yet to tell her, the opportunity hadn't presented itself, but maybe today…
"Wow, I didn't know that. So like, a dragon can say their charge is um… chivalry? How would they go about protecting that? Enforcing it on everyone they meet? That sounds like jerk behavior." Niftywing puffed out her cheeks as she disapproved of her imaginary Guardian.
Dominik had to laugh at her expression, a low rumbling sound. "It does."
Niftywing looked at him before looking down at the ground, her claws picking dried grass out of the ground and shredding it. "What… what do you think your charge is going to be? I mean, if you're okay with talking about it that is! I know it's personal and important so if you don't want to share I understand!"
Dominik shook his head with a smile. "It's okay. I don't mind."
Niftywing visibly relaxed. "Do you think it'll be a dragon or like, a trinket of some sort?"
"A trinket would be easier to keep track of," Dominik said. He thought back to the many, many times he would lose track of Niftywing and go into a mini panic.
"That's true, but a trinket would also be easy to break depending on what it was. Dragons are more hardy I think, and they can travel with you instead of needing to be carried."
Dominik nodded, knowing how nice it was not to have to carry an inanimate object around with him everywhere. He couldn't imagine living life like a Pearlcatcher. "It could also be a place," he said. He should just tell her, but… He wasn't scared so much as nervous, and he wasn't entirely sure why.
"Oh yeah. Wouldn't it be funny if it was the Behemoth?" Niftywing smiled at him, a mischievous glint in her eyes.
"No," he said, deadpan.
Niftywing laughed, such a lovely sound. "Okay, okay. Yeah that would be a bit of a problem for you, huh? What would you want it to be?" She turned to him, curiosity blatant on her face.
You. He wanted so desperately to say it, but he feared it would spook her. "A dragon. Like you said, they're easier to keep around."
"Most dragons at least," she laughed. "Can you imagine bonding to a Spiral? You'd never keep up!"
"Or a Fae. I would never see the poor thing."
"Or a Snapper! You'd have to go hunt them down after every time you slept."
They relaxed into a conversation on which dragon breeds would make the best charges, Dominik constantly skirting around the fact he'd already found his charge. He would tell her soon, just… not today.
