A bit of a lone wolf, Volubrjotr prefers doing his own thing by himself - and considering his inclinations, his profession and his past, it's not entirely a surprise. Seen as the odd one out ever since his childhood - and for good reason, some would argue - he never really fit in with the others on his plane of existence.

While Volu's childhood was a carefree time to him, his parents were constantly burdened by his quirks. In a clan populated by overly superstitious folk, they could only express their acceptance of him in private, all the while pleading him to keep a low profile in public. This, of course, couldn't last forever, and indeed one day a fateful revelation shattered the fragile peace. The clan, fearing his abilities would attract the Shade to their home, rallied for his exile, and the juvenile skydancer had no chance to explain and no choice but to go and find a new home, one where he could exist without fear of prejudice.

If only his clanmates had had the will to listen, maybe they would have understood that Volu doesn't actually attract anything. His antennae have simply been oversensitive to energy sources around him for all his life, allowing him to interact with entities in his vicinity that most others can't see, let alone hear. For Volu, the ghosts have just always been there, as normal a part of his surroundings as anything.

Socially smart despite his preference for solitude, Volu knows which entities to befriend and which ones to ignore until they leave him alone. Even for the living, he's a surprisingly easy fellow to get along with, as long as one can look past his somewhat eccentric ways of dressing and speaking, and the occasional case of items spontaneously starting to levitate in his proximity.

Feeling almost obligated to use his abilities for others' benefit, Volu reluctantly performs "exorcisms" to earn his keep. However, rather than engaging in intricate magic rituals to rid his clients of their ghosts, his approach consists of locating the troublesome entity and then essentially letting it traumadump on him until it feels better. This is usually more than enough to convince any grieving spirit to leave its haunt and move on.

Nobody calls Volubrjotr by his full name. Friends call him Volu, or sometimes Jotr, for short. Those who wish to cautiously speak ill of him call him "shade-whisperer" behind his back, too afraid to even speak his name, lest he hear and appear.

Dulais looks up to him and his abilities, secretly wishing she could some day possess even a fraction of his magic. Volu wouldn't take her on as his apprentice, considering his skills too innate to pass on, but gladly engages in conversation with his devout admirer.
