Biography
..........] BLAINE | ..................... |
Blaine was born, like her mother and grandmother, a powerless dragon. She was regaled with the stories of her great-grandparents adventures and love throughout her childhood, and found that she desired such a thing for herself. Much of her teenage years were spent pouring over texts her grandmother owned, and then ones from her great-grandfather's collection. She became quite obsessed with the idea of immortality. As an angel and a demon, her great-grandparents were immortal - they had already spent 6000 years together. There was no proof, however, that their descendants were also immortal. Seeing as most of them could not work miracles the way Aziraphale and Crowley could, it was a safe bet that they shared normal dragons' mortality. Blaine didn't like this idea. Hated it, actually. They turned their research more towards the concert of immortality and, unsurprisingly, came across the idea of a fountain of youth. As soon as the young dragon was old enough, she set out on her own. With nothing but a small pack of rations and scrolls holding copies of maps from books, Blaine set out on a quest for immortality. Her quest led her far away from her home, and resulted in many dead ends. Blaine aged. They began to wonder if they were wasting the life they did have on something that might now exist. But they pushed on, keeping a daily log in their journal, giving and receiving help when they could. They found salvation in the middle of a desert - in what had once, 6000 years ago, been a garden. |
The fountain was pristine, like it had newly been made, the oasis around it an overgrown tangle of plant life. Blaine pushed through it, ignoring the scratches of thorns and the irritation of pollen. Downtrodden, thirsty, and starving, their only thought was to escape the looming claws of death. The found the fountain, water flowing gold in the light of the setting sun, and drank, and drank, and drank... The water cured Blaine of her hunger, thirst, exhaustion, and wounds. The weariness of age wore off, and her body grew younger... younger than she had wanted. When she pulled back to gulp down the hot desert air, she found that she was.. smaller. Younger, indeed. The fountain had reverted Blaine back to a hatchling. Her underbelly was clear now, filled with the golden water flowing through the fountain. She had gained immortality but at a cost. Forever a child, Blaine left the desert and her ancestry behind, seeking instead as normal of a life as she could find. She joined a clan, becoming as functioning a member of it as any other dragon, and swore off any magic. Blaine's clanmates know about what she has come to regard as her curse, but very little know the story behind it. Relationships, although she forms them, are mostly futile when she will outlive them all. They strive to live as plainly as possible, focusing on carving a small place for herself in the world. |
