s t o r y The performers of the Spirited Lady Circus might be professionals, but even their acts can go wrong. A support beam fails during a balance act. A rowdy audience member dodges security and makes a rush for the center ring during a live act. Mortuarie "accidentally" entwines a flesh-eating demon to the spirit of an audience member who yawned during her performance. Point is, there's a lot of magic going on in and around the Spirited Lady. And when it inevitably fails, Brimstone is there to do cleanup. Armed with salt, runes, protective amulets, and whatever else makes magic dim and spirits balk, Brimstone attends to his duties faithfully - but not without complaint. He can't understand why his peers insist on messing with forces above their control, and is not afraid to let them know. Failing that, after a long day of work his mate Ravine is likely to get an earful of his woes - luckily, she's learned how to appeal to his love of tea to keep him occupied. He considers dragons like Mortuarie and Redara to be his mortal enemies, as it is their tents he most often finds himself on "clean-up duty" for. Redara likes to retort that, by the contrary, they keep him employed. |
