Laguna

Laguna is an excellent swimmer, which can be attributed to her elemental alignment and strong heritage. In the water, she tucks her sea-blue wings close to her body and glides through the waves like a sea snake. She's clearly in her element when swimming... Like many of her Water kin, Laguna loves to dive down to the sea floor. To her, nothing compares to the feeling of following the swell and sway of the sea. Recently, Laguna has begun an endeavor to map the Sea of a Thousand Currents - the contours of the sea floor, its borders, and especially the currents - along with her son, Sandbar. Their main obstacle when their quest began wasn't the distance to cover, nor the threats that certainly lurk in the deep...rather, they found themselves struggling to find a proper material to write with underwater! The carved rock tablets traditionally used for record-keeping by Water clans are difficult to haul over great distances, even in the buoyant saltwater sea. Typical parchment and ink is out of the question, for obvious reasons! Enchantments placed on paper tend to fade in power the further they get from the original enchanter, and neither Laguna nor Sandbar are particularly adept in casting such charms. Further research and experimentation was in order... Coating paper in wax is a common practice among clans living near the Sea of a Thousand Currents, spread to the edges of the continent by clever couriers who recommended wax coating for any letters traveling over the Sea. The trouble with this, when applied to Laguna and Sandbar's pursuit, is any writing on or handling of the coated paper causes the wax to split. Finally, a solution was found! Clan inventors Ivory and Sora modified and refined a paper press to create a thick, waxy "parchment" from the pureed leaves and fronds of kelp. The resulting product looks much like an opaque, square leaf that can be scrawled upon by any sharp instrument to produce a "scar" that can be read by holding the leaf up to a light source. It absorbs ink much like traditional parchment, as well, allowing this multi-purpose invention to revitalize communication between aquatic and terrestrial dragons!

Laguna was pleased to hear the news of the upcoming reunion! Ever since, she became unable to contain herself, often twirling in the water as if she was about to burst with enthusiasm. Her joy didn't dissipate once the reunion began, either - Laguna swam up from her sea cave home early each morning to meet the day with gusto. She gleefully aided Mudpuppy and Minnow in their effort to give their family members a tour of the colorful Fishspine Reef - in particular, she led some of the more timid guests to spots where the current was gentle and the sea life mild. Laguna was happy to participate in the events ashore, too; she fetched supplies for the event hosts, collected scavenger hunt scorecards...and, of course, lent her appetite at the feast! When all was said and done, Laguna bid her family a bittersweet farewell, grateful to have had the chance to share her life with them.
