______ In the Beginning...
... fear was the first thing Maestitia remembered. Hunted for her precious flowers, through the thicket of the Tangled Forests, seperated from her parents, no place to call her home. Completely and utterly lost.
In the distance she could hear the howls of those that hunted her, the menacing growls growing closer with each second.
The Mourning Flowers ability to remain unseen was what shielded her from the greedy Eyes that searched for her, yet being only a few days of age, the hatchling could not help but to silently shiver in fear.
Accompanied by the soothing whispers of the Veil, calling out for it’s child and the sense of protection the thorns of the Foxfire brambles gave her, she slowly calmed herself.
None of her hunters saw her when they rushed past the peacefully slumbering Hatchling, snuggled in between a nest of thorned roots.
______Home
The tangled woods have become familiar to Maestitia in no time. Soon she was able to gracefully navigate through the darkness and the thicket with no trouble at all. She eThe glowing Fungi of the Wispwillow grove were by far her favourite.
So much, that she spent most of her time there. Doing so, the spores of the Fungi took root in her thick fur, Growing right next to her flowers in a strange, yet beautiful kind of symbiosis. Maestitia did not mind the additional camouflage, even though she was not in a great need for it, as her shadowed Physique allowed her to remain unseen to those she did not want to be seen by.
Wandering as she was, Maestitia never once forgot her true purpose. Caring for the lost and forgotten souls, guiding them to the Beyond, so they may finally rest. She did so with the loving care of a mother. Maybe it was because deep down she yearned to be a mother not only to the lost, but her own offspring one day?
This wish remained deep inside her, while she wandered around the Tangled Woods, as a shadow herself.
After a while, she arrived near the valley, in which the Dragons of Vallis Nocte lived.
It seemed peaceful at first glance, but the Mourning FLower could hear the echoing howls of many souls, trapped and tortured by former Tyrants.
The air was filled with a weird energy, Maestitia never felt before, and the number of lost souls trapped in the valley was overwhelming.
Careful she entered the valley, masking herself in the shadows, as to not provoke the ones that might have caused this carnage.
But where she expected a bloody battlefield or the likes, she was met with a growing tribe. Newly found, recovering from recent horrors, filled with hopefulness and bright chatter. It was confusing the Flower to put it mildly.
As she spend her time in the Valley, taking care of the many suffering souls, she slowly gathered bits of information until finally she had a full picture of What happend to Vallis Nocte.
Slowly, she dared to let herself be seen by others around her.
Unlike what she expected, she was welcomed warmly and soon regarded with the utmost respect and gratitude for her service to the deceased.
Being a wanderer all her life, this was the closest thing that felt like home.
And she couldn’t help but to feel happy.
