Biography
"When I grow up, I wanna do plague magic
just like my mom, then I can build lots of new friends and never be sad or lonely again!" Curious | Playful | Innocent |
Bonesaw took a sabbatical and worked secretly on her grisly project down in the crypt for weeks. While molding the likeness of a fae youngling, the witch found she would have to use tough reptilian skin in order to protect the necromatic potion at the core of the child's body. This caused odd scale patterns and colours, and gave Rachnid a somewhat lizard-like impression. His eyes proved extremely tricky, and after many piles of discarded viscera Bonesaw eventually settled on a gruesome, spider-like cluster in the hope that at least some of them would work. This choice had some unexpected side effects which didn't manifest themselves until the youngling had been awakened, such as crawling up the walls, sleeping in sticky webs, and greedily chasing insectoid familiars..
When Rachnid was complete and reanimated, Bonesaw brought him into the main lair to meet the other residents. After presenting her son to the shocked dragons, the fae expressed her wish for him to be accepted into the lair and treated the same as any natural-born hatchling. This was hard for the residents to comprehend, and some insisted that Bonesaw had no idea what Rachnid was capable of, and that he may even be dangerous. Scared by the raised voices, the child huddled behind his mother's wings clutching a toy. His whimpers caused the others to stop and look more closely, and despite his grim appearance they saw a terrified hatchling seeking its parent for comfort, and most were softened. The clan leader thought carefully, then issued a statement giving Rachnid the full rights and protections of The Lastsparks, but she warned that it was up to Bonesaw to teach her son the accepted laws of the world, and that if he proved dangerous in the future then the charnel witch would have to take Rachnid and leave the den.
Bonesaw accepted these decrees with relief, and she picked Rachnid up so that he could see his new clanmates. Several turned away and left the meeting room muttering in disgust or disapproval. Others came to greet the child, especially those who were interested in the science and magic behind his creation. Her most trusted friends, Effírië and Silvermist, treated Rachnid as they would any other hatchling, which touched Bonesaw greatly, and in time others would follow their example. Occasionally though, when his differences made him feel a little self-conscious, Bonesaw would whisper kindly "Everyone has their quirks, son, some are just more obvious than others, but that doesn't make them bad." And her words never failed to raise a smile on Rachnid's lopsided mouth.
