Every clan has its secrets, skeletons in the closet, no matter how small they are. One such clan had a dark history, one that they continued to repeat endlessly. The darkness that lay in their hearts was such a strange thing to see in the beauty and nurturing land of the Viridian Labyrinth but that’s what enabled them to get away with it. The clan had few dragons, though that helped to keep their secret safe. The clan was in the business of training their hatchlings as spies and infiltrators. Once they were old enough, the dragon would be sent to another clan under the lie that they were being given to them in the hopes that the dragon would be able to live a better life in a new clan. This went on for years. For every clan that a hatchling was given to, the clan of lies and deceit gained new insight into the lives of other dragons. Most of the information was kept by the elders for blackmail should they ever need it later, but every once in awhile they would tear a clan apart with a few well placed words by their spy.

Furen was born into this clan, born into a life of lies and deceit and cold heartedness. With her small size and naturally carefree spirit, the clan elders thought that she would be their best servant yet. They trained her diligently and when she surpassed all the others her age, they let her raun wild in the land of the Gladekeeper. As far as they knew, she had no need to be watched constantly as she would serve them loyally. But Furen had other plans. On her adventures away from her birth clan, she learned that it wasn’t natural for dragons to do this. In every other clan she saw, they lived together like a family with each dragon doing their part to make sure the clan thrived.

With these images and thoughts in her head, the fae made a choice: she would do as her elders told her while she lived here, but once they gave her away to a clan, she would leave behind everything that they had taught her and start a new life. Furen had been trained in secret keeping and was able to keep her plans away from the members of her clan. Before long it was time for her to leave the clan and join another. To the clan elders, they believed that they would be gaining endless information, but for Furen, she knew she would be gaining a new life.

Her new clan was located in the realm of the Tidelord. It was a drastic change for her, to go from a land of boundless nature and greenery to a realm of seemingly endless water. But the bigger the change, the easier it was for Furen to change her life. She left behind everything that her clan elders had taught her, left all of the things they’d told her the day that she’d left. She became a new dragon. It wasn’t always easy of course, as some of the members of her new clan did not fully trust her, especially an imperial named DarthMaul. The dragon had never spoken to her face, but the look in her eyes relayed the message clearly.

It was much harder than she’d thought it would be, but thanks to the help of a dragon, the change was easier. Newgalaxy was kind to her and was more than willing to help her make the change between nature and water. At first her feelings towards him were simply ones of friendship but as time went on they evolved and changed into something more. She was afraid to acknowledge it due to the fact that he was already set to be mated with another dragon, though she didn’t know who. In her new clan, many dragons were placed in arranged mate pairs to ensure that the clan would have the strongest hatchlings, both in mind and body. So Furen ignored her feelings, knowing that they were impossible.

One day, all of that changed. Newgalaxy revealed to her that he had feelings for her as well. He agreed to cut off his arranged mate relationship with his, well, arranged mate. Furen was beside herself with excitement. She had never thought that she’d be able to find a mate and be truly happy, especially not with her background, but now she had the chance and she accepted it. Everything was perfect… until she found out who Newgalaxy’s ex-mate was. DarthMaul was not happy about her mate-to-be being stolen away, especially not by a dragon who’d come from some other clan, a clan that no one really knew anything about. And so the imperial began to dig into the past of the fae and before long she’d discovered her secret.

She confronted Furen about it in front of the whole clan. It was an explosive screaming match, mostly performed by DarthMaul, but when Furen spoke, the clan went silent. She spoke of her hatred for her birth clan’s ways, how she had never wanted to do their bidding once she had seen other clans, how she’d come here and started over. Newgalaxy stood by her side and protested that the dragon DarthMaul spoke of no longer existed. She’d changed. The clan believed the pair and in a fit of anger, DarthMaul vowed that she would stop at nothing to end Furen’s happiness. The clan ignored her words, believing them to be just that: words.

Furen and her mate have since had several hatchlings, all of which they’ve raised with love and kindness, the same things that Furen was met with when she joined the new clan. Her past was forgotten and the memories she created in her new clan outshone everything else.
