Dragons living in the Icewarden’s land know that ice is dangerous. It kills without any warning and doesn’t care who is on the other end of the receiving blow. Taking this to heart, many ice flight clans grew into clans of warriors, training hard in the frigid weather, ignoring the chill that soaked into their very souls as they trained. Eventually, many built up an immunity to the temperature and harshness of the Icefields and they became the lands greatest warriors. Goldennile was born into one such clan, a clan of warriors who train and fight until they take they’re dying breath. Just like the world around them, they are cold and distant from others and even their own families. This didn’t seem right to the young imperial, who was friendlier and more compassionate towards others. Well, more so than any of the other dragons in his clan, though another dragon clan might still find him cold and uncaring. Disliking their son’s personality, his parents threatened him into submission, telling him that he would fail as a warrior if he didn’t accept who he was. His older siblings did the same thing, pushing him around in an attempt to toughen him up. It worked, though probably not in the way they thought.

Angered by his family’s uncaring attitudes, Goldennile pushed himself to his very limit, often times even past it. He wanted to show his family that he could be a strong warrior and still be compassionate. When he was a young adult, a war broke out between the ice and fire clans. Realizing this was his chance to prove it to his family and his clan, the golden imperial stepped up and offered his sword to aid his fellow ice dragons in fighting the fire beasts. He flew to the main continent and fought, his eyes cold and harsh as he slew fire dragon after fire dragon. But even warrior’s have their breaking points. In one skirmish, the ice dragons were outnumbered. Those not killed were taken as prisoners and sold to other flights. Goldennile was no exception.

Sold to a plague clan, he endured pain and torture like never before. The dragons in that clan put him to work, brutal labor that served no real purpose but gave them the opportunity to laugh and jeer at the once fierce warrior. The imperial hoped the labor would kill him. He had not died a warrior’s death and now suffered because of it. His hopes almost became reality when he became deathly ill. Seeing that he was no longer useful to them, the plague clan sold him to a nature clan. They saw his wounds, the disease that festered inside of him and they healed him. The dragoness that nursed him back to health became his mate soon after and while they didn’t have any hatchlings, the two were in love. Or at least, one of them was. Once fully healed, Goldennile left the nature clan to find somewhere that felt more like a home. He left his mate behind and she vowed that she would not let his betrayal go forgotten and without punishment.

Goldennile soon found himself on the banks of the Sea of a Thousand Currents, among a clan that was friendly and welcomed him with open arms. The Clan of Clear Water was everything that the battle-hardened dragon had been searching for. He found love once more, though it was more based on physical attraction than actual romantic feelings. Goldennile and Wildstyle were soon the proud parents of several hatchlings. They seemed happy, though it would not last for long. The imperial once again felt that this wasn’t exactly what he wanted and so he left his mate with several young hatchlings. The clan leaders had found another imperial and requested that he and the new dragon become mates. This was the kind of relationship that he had been searching for, love that could connect the warrior to someone unlike himself and yet still feel as if they had known each other for centuries. Electa and Goldennile soon became mates and he was happier than he had ever been before. This time, he knew, it would last.

Wildstyle was not happy about this new arrangement. She had since been mated to another dragon and while she loved him, a part of her heart still belonged to the ice dragon. The love that had once been there now changed to a cold and hardened fury. She and her new mate raised the hatchlings that she and Goldennile had hatched together and she let her fury seep into their lives and the lives of her other children. She told her children that the golden imperial was an evil dragon who longed only for war and death. Her fury clouded her judgment she let a strange dragon care for one of her hatchlings when he was sick. Her son Ceri had been placed into the talons of another one of Goldennile’s ex-mates, come to take revenge.

Tricking the young hatchling to share what his mother had told him, the once peaceful dragon smiled darkly and began to make plans. Knowing the Wildstyle was too blinded by her pain and fury to notice her son not returning home often, she began to train him. She trained him with weapons and poisons, anything that could kill the gold imperial. Once Ceri was ready, she shared with him the plan to kill his mother’s ex-mate. The skydancer was more than willing to obey, as he’d been fed lies about the imperial while in the presence of both his mother and the nature dragon. So he snuck to the cave that he believed to be Goldennile’s. He carried a blade with him, wanting to watch the evil dragon’s blood splash across the floor as the light faded from his eyes.

A simple mistake was all it took for the carefully crafted plan to fall apart. In his rage and fury, Ceri was blind to his surroundings and stumbled over a pearlcatcher’s tail. Realizing that there was an armed dragon in the cave, the dragon raised in the alarm. Ceri rushed to the tunnels of the cave, blindly hoping to stumble across the gold dragon. Upon seeing gold in the dim light, he flung his sword, striking the dragon in its heart. The blood seeped onto the floor and he grinned in triumph before it grew into a horrifying pain. He had failed in killing Goldennile and had instead killed a dragon merely dressed in gold. Horrified with his mistake, Ceri fled the caves and the clan, vowing never to return.

The dragon that had died had been one of Electa and Goldennile’s children. They were saddened greatly by her death and the imperial was seized by an urge to learn the art of healing. He had failed in saving the life of his daughter but he would not let it happen again. Going to an older dragon in the clan, he begged the elder to share and teach him the art of healing. It took many long months but eventually, Goldennile knew all that he could. To prove his skills to himself and his clan, he left the older dragon and returned to the clan to heal those who were sick. When he was successful, he returned to where the old dragon had lived to thank him. Instead, he found an empty cave, one that looked as if no one had lived there in years.

Confused but still thankful, Goldennile returned to his clan where they chose him as their lead healer. While he had no intent to hold a sword again, he promised in his heart that if the need ever arose, he would do that very thing. Due to all the service he had done to the clan, the leader of the clan also appointed him as an advisor to ensure that any action made regarding the clan would be made in their benefit.
