"Hah! Sarcasm loses it's potency when you state a fact, mi—" He stopped himself. "...Avery."
Upon the news that she was leaving, he sat up a bit straighter, as if realizing that would leave him alone in the brig with other prisoners. Prisoners that were both much, much bigger and far more threatening that he was.
No issue. We're all sealed in cages, afterall. If they haven't gotten out already, they won't be doing it any time soon. Kassian took his own reassurance to heart and tried to loosen his now tight grip on the bars of his cell. Yes. I'll be fine...
He still felt a tight knot of fear as Avery began up the stairs at the back of the room. Kassian swallowed it back as he spoke.
"Good-night, Avery. Try not to miss me too much~"
The young prince hooked his arms between his cell bars again as the room was sealed in darkness, cheek rested on his upper-arm. He was staring out at the dark silhouette of the door.

"Oh I'll do anything BUT miss you." Was all she said before she slammed the door shut. The cells themselves were dark, and she couldn't really see for a moment. The rest of the day went by quickly, and it was time before she knew it.
Ts:)
Avery quickly shoved the handful of coins into her pocket as she stepped out of her Dad's quarters. She had volunteered to do rounds downstairs that night, and so far everyone thought normal of it.
"I'm here, ready to go?" She peered through the dark as she climbed down the ladder-stairs. She hadn't turned the lantern on, afraid of being caught. "Everyone's out partying and stuff, so did Dad, which is rare, we can just leave." She smiled, stopping in front of Kassian's cell.
After fumbling with the keys for a moment, she opened the door. "I got a decent amount of coins, too." She puffed herself up a bit, proud.
This'll either be a new rising for me, or the doom of my life...

Kassian had spent the following day at the boredest he'd been in awhile.
When the fear of isolation wore off, and he was left in the dark, suffocating solitude, it turned out there wasn't much one could do to entertain themselves. He'd tried, of course— trying to strike up a conversation with dangerous strangers in a dark room was easier said than done. They would either ignore the young prince completely or tell him to hush.
Trying to make any noise short of breathing (for the love of the Gods, the men in here breathed so loud Kassian was convinced they were part pug) was enough to get the same response; a short, loud 'Shut up, will 'ya?"
So when Avery finally appeared in the illuminated doorway, it was a near godsent. Anything to get out of this horribly stuffy cell.
"Yes! I was born ready," Kassian said, sitting up off the floor and hauling himself to his feet. His hands gripped the bars of his cage for support as he rose. "We should get a move-on as fast as possible, then," he added as Avery delivered the information of the empty boat.

"Uh okay then, let's go?" Avery said as she pushed the cell door open all the way, and propping it open with a wooden block nearby. "You need help or are you good?" She asked as she turned to him, nearly invisible in the pitch dark.
"Try and follow my voice towards the door and ladder." She turned around, heading for the ladder, which was their way out. "Once we're off the ship and get our horses, it's easy escape." She started climbing the ladder, assuming he was behind her. Today she wore her outfit that consisted of pants, which was rare, but looked rather fashionable.

Kassian took a hesitant moment to regain his composure, folding his hands together and rubbing his pointer finger up against his thumb to soothe himself. You both will be perfectly fine, he reassured himself once again. Home is within a two weeks' travel.
With that glorious note, he shook his head, beginning to slip out of the cage after Avery. "No, I'll be alright. It is a simple ladder."
Grasping the wood with both hands, Kassian began to haul himself up after Avery.
The hefty scent of salt and a small tinge of fish hit his nose as he rose onto the top deck of the ship. Boards, slick with saltwater, shinied quietly from a mix of moonlight and festivity lanterns on the painfully close shore. Even the ship's stained, white sails looked prettier in the sparkly lighting. He took in the scene before speaking.
"Do you know when the lot of your crew will be back on the boat? We'll have about until they return to finish our search for supplies," He mused aloud.

"Alright your majesty, welcome to the docks." Avery smiled teasingly as she headed towards a ramp, which was connected to the dock. "It'll be a good three hours till they're back, why is there something we need to do on here?" She asked as she stopped, turning around to look at him.
"Man, it's dark, I can barely see, I'm literally blind." The girl muttered as she lit a lantern. "Anything you think I'd need to grab? I have lots of money, and the necessities here in my pouch." She gestured to a small bag slung around her waist.
"We could just get the horses and go, if you want unless there's things we'll need. I was thinking we ride out to a smaller town to spend the night in a stable or something and buy food there, it'll be much cheaper, and the food will last longer, too."

"That sounds like a plan, then," Kassian agreed readily. "If you couldn't tell, I'm at quite the loss here. You would have far more experience than I in matters like these, despite your solitude on the boat."
And indeed, as Avery observed, it was dark. The lanterns on shore only did so much; the rest of the water was a murky black that gave Kassian a sense of unease. He avoided looking over the side of the ship and into the inky black
saltwater.
"The only thing I could think of that we would need would be charms," he added onto his earlier statements. "Any source of luck is going to help us in the trek ahead. That, and festivals like these may be the only place we find any half-decent ones at an affordable price. Little villages that sell them would have them going for an arm and a leg."

"Well yes, I know what you mean."Avery snickered at the tone of his voice. "I myself have a few charms, but not many, where do you suggest we buy them, and do we really need them?" She asked as she shakily walked off of the dock, still dealing with her sea-legs.
"I know of plenty travelers, that had made plenty of trips without charms, and were completely fine." She reasoned, trying to keep her balance, not used to the ground, which strangely didn't rock back and forth like the ship did.

Kassian took a moment of silence to ponder. Do we really need charms? The money could have been used for something far more valuable. But the princeling couldn't shake his uneasy feeling— as if something was going to go horribly wrong.
"Better safe than sorry, miss Avery. We may already have charms on your person, but any extra strokes of luck will perhaps save our lives." He extendes an arm to help steady Avery's wobbly walk.
"Even just a high-end one would cure my fear, I think. Something that may come in handy."
He gripped her arm as they made their way onto the dock's planks. The young prince was unbelieveably glad to be on stable land; anything was better than the constant, sickening rocking of the pirate ship.

"Alright, it's not that big of a deal, but it'll be an easier way to save money if we didn't get one." Avery silently cursed her legs as she tried not to trip. "Blasted sea-legs." She muttered. "We go down the road to the left, and then a quick turn to the right is where we'll find horses."
Moments later, they arrived at a stable. "Hey Jaques, so uh long story short, we're running away, and really need horses for our get-away, this is Kassian, and we can pay, too." Jaques was the epidemy of attractive, to most girls. Tall and blonde, with piercing blue eyes. And he was obviously sweet on the captain's daughter. The age range was of two years, which was the perfect number, in her father's opinion.
"Ah yes of course, mi' 'amor, my guess is you'd like the haflingers? The traveling horses?" The boy spoke in a heavy french accent, sending a snide look towards Kassian, as if he hadn't exist.
