(hmm, good question! I'd say Zane's a bit shorter than Avery, at like 5'3", while Sebastian's taller at 5'9", and Kassian is nearly 6'0"-6'1" LMAO)

Reef shook his head in a gesture he'd seen humans do when venturing too close to shore. He wasn't sure what it meant, exactly, but it seemed to reassure those who were in doubt. "Not a need for apology. I didn't know how to walk," the siren tried pointing out. To be fair, he'd also never had legs, but Avery hadn't frequently gone in the water either.

Kassian snorted softly at Avery's light jab. Straightening his tunic - he wasn't used to such scratchy fabric - the princeling spoke, "we're just fine, thank you very much. Had to convince Sebastian here not to overdo it though." He patted his cousin on the shoulder.

The other prince frowned slightly. "I think I did just fine." Border-line, really, but it would do. The blade on his hip certainly looked sharp. Kassian himself wasn't carrying any weapons, but then again, he wouldn't be able to properly use them. The only things he could wield properly after his shoulder incident were one-handed swords. The motion of having a two-handed or tossing smaller knives tended to smart the old injury.

There was a moment of silence as Zane looked the two over, correcting Sebastian's earrings before calling it good. "Alright! Onto the docks, then, I suppose. Better to get this over with sooner rather than later." Time would tell if their disguises - and, by proxy, their 'accents' - would get them through with minimal suspicion.

(also, did you want to play the people on the pirate island, or should I?)

(Bahaaa that’s funnny I love that sm. And you’d say Reef is about the same height as Sebastian?)
(Also, I’m fine with switching it up a little, I can play a few NPCs sort of, and we can roll with that, and if you’d sort of like to play a main pirate islander you can, just to roll the plot going…)

“C’mon guys. We need to find some sort of tavern, or eatery where we could ask of a witch, or someone who’s family with the arcane traditions and magic.” Avery ave’s the small group onto the docks, and with that, they began to make their way towards the town. Surprisingly, she wasn’t dealing with a whole lot of sea legs, but Sadie was a different story.

Wobbling slightly, she reached forward and grasped onto Reefs arm, in attempt to stay standing up, and to avoid tripping and falling off the docks. “Hate sea legs.” She muttered. Eventually her body became used to the land itself, and she wasn’t as shaky as she had been before.

When the little group entered the town, they received a little bit more then an interested glance. A few citizens paused in their actions, on elder man nearly dropping his basket of vegetables. A little boy gawlked at the group, eyeing Sebastian’s earrings. Whoever these newcomers were, they looked terribly well to do.

Despite the stares of the townspeople, Avery continued to walk, seeming to avoid accidentally possibly bumping into anyone. She kept her gaze right in front of her, and made sure to keep everyone together. Sadie, on the other hand, was terrified. Stepping behind Reef, she slipped her hand out of his in her nearly panicked state. Everyone staring at them was actually embarrassing, and the attention they all received was awfully high.

(Heyy! Ah no worries! I’m sorry you had tot go through that! Let me know if there’s anything I can do to help you out, and if you feel like you need to vent, let me know, I’ll be here for ya. No worries! Irl is much more important than I roleplay!:)

(hello!! sorry about the break, depression is hard lol

and yes, reef is about that tall :D)

As the group walked, Kassian managed to trail behind the majority of them to keep tabs. Reef was stuffed somewhere in the middle to avoid suspicion - his odd smell wasn't out of the usual here, thankfully - and Zane took the head with Sebastian. They managed to make it a good way from the docks, focused on a bee-line for the main structures of the island, before a rather adventurous fellow intercepted them. So much for a clear shot.

The man seemed in his early 40's, wrapped in layers to combat the blazing sun and balding around the center of his head. Half of his teeth had to be made of gold. "...Y'all look like newcomers," he said scathingly, his tone a badly disguised suspicion. The conversation was starting to draw the shifty stares of onlookers. "Recognize that bloke at the front... you been on my ships before, lad?"

Tian momentarily froze, convinced the man was referencing him, before Zane gave a loud snort. "Terin, was it? Knew you were an ugly piece of work. Sun hasn't done you any good." Before striding up and giving the balding pirate a firm handshake.

"What are 'ya doin' with a... ragtag group like this?" The pirate questioned rudely.

Zane huffed softly in amusement. "None of your Gods damned business, Terin. But if you can point us toward the center of this wretched island, we'll be out of your hair. Faster you do it, the less I'll remember that you still owe me sixteen gold."

Kassian watched in utter fascination. Maybe hiring the mercenary hadn't been a horrid choice. "...Did he ever mention regularly doing work with pirates?" He questioned Avery quietly.

(Tell me about it. I hate depression so much. I’ve been struggling too and it feels like my life has been wrecked… idk if it’s the vitamins i started taking or what but it’s not been right as of lately…)

Avery didn’t give a crap anymore. If he dad found her, she knew that she’d have people around her, who’d willingly protect her, and it wouldn’t surprise her if there would be others among this island that oils recognize her. It was a small world, anything was bound to happen, of course.

The pirate quietly entwined her fingers with Kassian’s, her eyes widening momentarily as Zane spoke to…. Whomever this was. To say he was intimidating was a severe understatement. This guy looked like he’d gutted a whale shark at the ripe age of three. “Uhm, no, he never mentioned anything like that of the sorts…” She went quiet, deciding it’d be best to let them talk it out.

Sadie was terrified. Her hands shook as she followed the little group throughout the market. The thought of running into her old coworkers, or her boss, scared her senseless. She wouldn’t know what to do, and she didn’t know if they’d be happy, sad, upset, or what. They’d probably be mad. Keeping her gaze glued to the ground, she followed Reef, her face a pale shade of white.

When they seemed to stop, she stepped behind whoever was closest to her, in more of a hiding gesture.

Reef quietly allowed Sadie to step behind him, going as far as extending an arm in some gesture of safety. Kassian rose his eyebrows but said nothing, instead turning to continue speaking to Avery in the same hushed tone. "I mean, he's younger than I am... where'd he get jobs working with pirates?"

To be fair, a lot of people were raised on ships in the first place. Kass didn't know enough about Zane's past to determine his childhood, but he didn't figure it was on the open ocean, even if the boy knew how to run a ship. He didn't have the accent for it.

Zane and the old pirate continued talking for a few moments, mostly in order to haggle 'just how much I owe you' and Zane beginning to get pushy for answers. Eventually, Terin caved, gesturing further down the road they'd already been walking on. "Even better, I'll lead 'ya there myself. Then the debt's repaid in full. Last time I gamble with you, Zane..."

Zane snorted loudly and shrugged his shoulders. "Eh. I think you'll fall prey eventually." Before motioning for the group to keep going again. Tian flinched slightly at the gesture but hurried along, raising his eyebrows in silent question. Zane ignored him.

(ahh, very fair! is there any medications you're taking WITH the vitamins? unless you have too much of one I don't know if it would make depression worse-)

Avery glanced towards the bald pirate, utterly confused. She didn’t think Zane would be the type to make such friends with pirates. He didn’t have any sort of accent, and didn’t appear as much of one, either. But who knew. Everyone had their ways, and his mysterious past sort of intrigued her.

Interesting. He’ll be answering some questions later.. Slightly copying Sebastian, she raised a brow and glanced towards Reef and Sadie, as if half expecting them to have some sort of explanation of what was going on. “I haven’t the slightest clue, but heck, if it gets us where we need to go, I’m not complaining…” Her voice trailed off as she went quiet and began to follow the conversation Zane and the mystery pirate whom they had just met.

“Hopefully he’s not… he’s just tricking us into some sort of trap..” Distrust clouded her features as she eyed the pirate from side to side. Pirates would do almost anything for a bit of money, or a drink. It was too terribly easily to stab someone in the back in these parts.

Sadie remained quiet, behind Reef, as she silently trailed behind, well aware of her surroundings for the first time in awhile. She was all ears, partially due to nerves. The thought of being kidnapped or enslaved once more terrified her. “Where exactly are we going?”

(Nah, I mean other than the vitamins that’s all I’m taking. So I don’t understand why I’ve been feeling like crap, but I’ve just felt awful and I don’t know why. Maybe I’m better without them?)

(ahh, i'm sorry man :(

sometimes depression just swings on in, I'd recommend just giving it time- try to occupy your free-time with company, other people or hobbies. remember I'm always here to talk if you need it <3)

Reef was quiet for a moment, clearly at a loss for answers. He was in the dark as much as Sadie was. He'd never seen this many humans in one place before, nor had he ever had the displeasure of participating in pirate culture. His only interaction with pirates was occasionally singing their boats into jagged rock-faces and hoping they left his pod's territories. "No idea."

Sebastian, meanwhile, sunk further back into the group until he was side-by-side with Kassian and Avery. His voice was hushed, eyebrows knit together. "I've got a bad feeling about this." The princeling admitted, wringing his hands. No one here knew Zane very well. While the man had proved trust-worthy so far - when it came to money, anyway - no one could be 100% on his intentions.

Kassian nodded in agreement. "Not like we've got a choice, though." He squeezed Avery's hand a bit tighter. Refusing guidance was bound to draw more attention. And if someone looked close enough, they were bound to find inconsistencies in the group's disguises.

Eventually, as Zane and Terin wound their way through the decrepit buildings further inland, Terin began to slow. At first, Zane figured the old pirate was tiring, but he found no sheen of sweat on his forehead. The mercenary managed to keep a straight face even as his head jumped to conclusions. He's leading us there, but there's something off. Part of his knew paying off old gambling debts wasn't enough of an incentive to truly get Terin off his back, but he'd been hoping the best. "...You good?"

Terin, sensing Zane and the rest of his followers were growing suspicious, finally stopped walking. They were far enough in toward the center-castle that the buildings here were actually livable. Most of the pirates this far into the island's interior had gold jewelry and silk robes. "Never been better, fry." Without warning, several other pirates began to wind their way through the gaps in buildings around the group. Not many of them were armed, but there was enough to overpower the group regardless.

"See, we knew you'd be comin' back here," Terin said, rounding on Zane. He was drawing his cutlass. "Owe debts, y'know. I'm not the only one who gambles. But who would think you'd haul the princess with 'ya, either?" Terin gestured at Sadie. "That there's an opportunity we ain't passin' up, Zane."

The mercenary froze for a moment. He rose a finger to Terin, much to the balding pirate's surprise, and turned to face the rest of the group. "Would anyone here be up for being kidnapped?"

"I- no?!" Sebastian exclaimed rather loudly.

Zane nodded in understanding. "In that case, start running!" And without so much as offering aid to his new companions, shoved Terin to the ground and bolted off toward the castle in the distance.

“Hmm…” Sadie’s voiced trailed off as their little group came to a halt. Suddenly, her gaze shot up from the ground as she turned a nice pale shade of white, her ethereal features, her blue eyes panicked.

Sea stars. Well, er, maybe they’ll forget who I am, and they’ll be more focused on catching everyone else, yes? I don’t look like a princess, half the kingdom barely knows what I look like. That’s what I get for being locked in a castle tower for years..

“K-K-Kidnapped?” Sadie nearly choked on air as she took a step backwards, promptly fleeing without much of a thought. She didn’t exactly know where she was going, but she’d try to run as fast as she could. Her short legs didn’t help many matters. Looking about in more of a desperate way, she searched for somewhere to hide, her white-blond hair streaming after her like the tethers of a kite.

Avery on the other hand, was a little bit more collected as she reached for Sebastian’s arm, her hand still entwined with Kassian’s. “Move Sebastian, unless you wanna die!” She ordered, and glanced towards Zane. “Zane, I uh- y’know what, now’s not the time..” Her voice trailed off as she took off running, momentarily slipping her fingers from Kassian’s so she could move a little bit more freely.

“Who are these guys?! What do they want?” She gasped, struggling to speak and run at the same time. “Sadie’s a princess? Or I’m the princess? Are we both princesses?”

(Ah thank youuuu I’ll definitely let you know if there’s anything I need to tell ya. Idk. I hate being single, and I feel like everyone around me is pulling people *sobs* and I’m the mix between social and anti social and I try so hard to be extroverted but idk… just struggling to find the right person…)
