Just finished naming my newest clutch of hatchlings after types of fish and I realized- wow, I've really lost the plot here.
I know a lot of flight rising players don't do this because it might dissuade potential buyers, but in my experience, if anything, named hatchlings seem to sell faster?? It also takes away the possibility of them being exalted Unnamed. I know it's a hassle and might be annoying to buy a renaming scrolls but I just love sending them off with silly/themed name and give the new owner and option to rename them if they choose, because I find that a lot of the time, the names are kept. C: And if not, at least I may have given someone inspiration or something to chuckle about.
So I'm really curious, what do you guys do?
I've done references to Greek/Roman mythology a lot, dessert names, Hunger Games most recently, plants, cities, etc.

I don't sell often, but when I do, it's always named hatchlings. I just use the randomizer, though. It's worth it to avoid unnamed exalts, or very unappealingly named exalts. :')
When I'm shopping for permas, hatchlings already being named doesn't deter me at all. Scrolls are easy to come by, and I'm also really slow to pick names for my permas, so it's nice to have a placeholder in the meantime. I think some of them still have their "temporary" names lol.

I always name them unless it's a g1 I hatched but am not keeping.
I made the mistake of selling/exalting a couple unnamed hatchlings early on and now my progens descendants list is forever stuck with that. Never again

I name all mine. I didn't at first, because newbie!me felt that was the prerogative of the new owner, and now my beloved progens have Unnamed and also "uwuowouwu" on their offspring list and I can't ever change that.
it's a small peeve but an eternal one.

I used to, but at this point I just. Don't care I guess. I also haven't put dragons up on the AH in months, I just use my failed hatchery kids as fodder now. Every once in a while, someone will message me asking for one, but then I know they're keeping them, so I just send them over unnamed.

I don't, since its never really something that has bothered me. And I do like seeing the names people come up for the occasional perma when that works out!!
(Meanwhile I am the menace that takes in impulse permas but takes forever to actually settle on a name, and they remain Unnamed for years! I am certainly part of the problem)

Nah. I remember a time when there there folks who used to buy up all the renaming scrolls in the store and sell them for more than they're worth on the AH and I greatly disagree with that practice. So I liked to sell them unnamed to give folks a chance of naming them something they want without having to deal with the extra upcharge (even if it's an insignificant upcharge). This was before they stocked in the quantities that they do now and before they dropped in coli and is not really an issue nowadays that I'm aware of.
Unnamed hatchlings was never really something that bothered me begin with so I don't usually bother naming unless it's a specific themed pair.

I always name dragons I sell, unless it's a g1. I'm picky about not having unnamed dragons in offspring lists. No shade of course, naming dragons is hard, but at worst my name can be a placeholder while the buyer thinks of a permanent name.
I often name fodder/sales dragons based on appearance. A watery dragon might be named Lagoon or Pelagic. A brown dragon might be Mocha, Cocoa, Twix, or Muffin. A shiny dragon might be Glint or Coruscate. A dragon that makes me think of flowers might be Hyacinth, Hydrangea, or Lilac.
There's also vaguer associations, like I had a dragon that reminded me of a Hot Wheel so I named her Wheelie. Nature-y dragons get Tolkien elf names. Any dragon that makes me think of a video game character, place, special attack, etc. will probably be named accordingly.
If all else fails there's the random name generator, but I usually at least try to come up with something related to the dragon personally before that.

I chuckled when I saw this thread, because I just listed two hatchlings from an unsuccessful breeding project, and named them more or less randomly. Normally I don't bother naming them. But for whatever reason, today I didn't feel like having Unnamed in the offspring list of two dragons I intend to exalt as soon as I get the darned hatchling I'm after.
Go figure, hey?
Also, @glitchplight I am definitely part of the same problem! I have oodles of dragons patiently waiting for "just the right name, whatever that is!" [emoji=guardian tongue size=1]

@Phaser I totally relate with keeping temporary names forever. I tell myself I'll change it later but can never find anything that fits perfectly like I want, and so it becomes a permanant name without my realizing. But no one will ever know, amIright?
@Archaius Your technique of naming is definitely my style even though lately I've become more and more chaotic. Don't know if it's just me, but I have a grudge against the names produced by the randomizer because they're never quite my style. I'm wondering if there's a thread with chaotic names resulting from the randomizer, because some of them are questionable. [emoji=imperial confused size=1]
@Barrdwing Be wary, because I think the naming becomes addicting after a while. I kept telling myself it'd be just this one time, and next thing I know, I'm naming every and all dragons. There's so much creative liberty!
@Halszkaraptor Oh wow, I never knew that practice was a thing. While I understand it's a great way to profit, it'd definitely be really frustrating, especially if you just want to give "Noodle" a permanant name.
