Saving and utilizing the vault is something I need to get better at else I tend to crunch and make as much money in the soonest amount of time for larger purchases, send myself right back down to 0, and then i start it all over again >>;
It's rather unforgiving

I try to keep a combined 2 - 5kg/mt on hand, the excess gets reinvested immediately. Dunno, making money is often more fun to me than the actual game. Probably because I can never decide which project I want to complete first, so I just keep on procrastinating and hoarding money.
I consider it a boon though, because it means I get to splurge on all those gem genes when I do decide to do some impulse geneing.

a majority of my money goes to familiars i buy em til im out then i scramble around trying to get more money mostly from exalting right now as my dragon sales are not doing well
currently i have 289770 t and 460 g which is like nothing to me no real plans
but i should work on that

I peeked in my vault and I have 1000 gems in a fund in case the next Ancient turns out to be gem-exclusive, which do I not understand why they would withhold it from the masses, and I am NOT touching it until the Ancient is released just in case.
Otherwise, I try not to go below 40,000 treasure and when I really, really want something, I play G & G every day to the max and attack the Training Fields for familiars I can sell quick and cheap- I made over 1,000 gems that way in a month.
Right now, my goal of 1,000 gems has been reached, and my aim is to have over 2 million treasure because of Wavecrest and I have a 1.4 million treasure project.

i used to be horrible at saving, but ive gotten a new good habit recently! im earning 500g (or more, depends on my luck) every day and saving 100% of it. leftover treasure might get spent if im already at that goal in a day, but i do carry a lot over to the next day. exceptions are things like buying fodder, and fest stuff
at the end of the day, all of my gems get vaulted. i have a spreadsheet to track my daily income and milestone goals - that makes it easier! visualising and planning it out makes my brain very happy
majority of my profit comes from the ah: in the past 6 days, only 2 days have brought in below 300g from it alone! fodder, glimglom, hoardselling and little things like crim/tomo are what i use to get everything else
its a lot of discipline, and a lot less time than you might think. big amounts of money coming from glimglom, arlo and baldwin mean i have so much time left to relax and have fun irl VS if i made everything from pure fodder! dont become a no-lifer
i do have a chart that roughly plans out how much i should expect to earn from each site feature daily, which helps keep me on track, even if it varies and can be super inacurate some days
hitting goals is great for keeping motivated - i hit 10kg yesterday! and tomorrow should be 11. celebrate the little victories, have a clear goal in mind (an item, specific amount of money etc) and plan out what is viable for you to earn. its a TONNE of fun :D

I put everything in the vault and hope I don't impulse buy lol
Daily gng, fam bonding, opening fam chests all of that
currently working, I'm one gng away from 1mil in the vault and I'm spending gems on apparel slots for other projects.
Thinking of saving up to the 10mil rainy day fund achievment before converting it all to gems and spending it on projects I have

Start at broke > Save for project gene > Buy project gene > Back to broke > Repeat ad infinitum
More serious answer though - I do always try to make sure I'm not properly broke in case something Shiny!New! drops (like the new fish familiar or the recent birds) so that I can grab them relatively quickly. I also try to keep a reasonable stockpile of funds in case a match for one of my saved searches comes up - if I'm low on gems, I'll definitely at least have a good amount of treasure to convert quickly.
As for the how: Capping fairgrounds daily, leveling and exalting the fodder that comes out of my nests, and this year I made a lot by going hard for NotN. The daily fairgrounds goes further than a lot of people might realize; it'd buy a Coatl scroll within a month, or add up to over 27,000,000t / 27,000g over the course of a year. Super quick? No, absolutely not - but definitely reliable, and fairly low effort.

I usually always have at least 100kt on me at all times. I don't like it when I have less than that amount.

I'm prone to impulse buying when I'm not procrastinating so I try to at least have 1mt in the vault, anything below that means I'm having a financial crisis. I already max out fairgrounds daily + however many fams I bond with and I sell/exalt fodder so I usually recover.
Gems are another thing, I will NEVER touch 'em unless it's for something I actually planned for, rn I' ve saved up for 2 WC scrolls so I'm fine as long as the impulse buy isn't super expensive. I do exchange treasure for gems in case I miscalc'd the impulse buy but I prefer not to do that.

Chucking every 100kt and 10g I earn into the vault
I also make sure to have a close to equal value amount of each currency. I don't know why, but it makes the numbers cancel out in my brain. If I have an excess of one currency than the other, it feels like I have disposable income and am more inclined to spend. In addition, every 10mil/kg feels like a threshold I can't dip below or else I get an icky feeling. I've managed to hoard a lot of money this way.
Also literally take a day and sleep on anything you feel like you're going to impulse buy.
