How does everyone do it?

Do you have a system? Like a minimum in savings at all times? Planned expenses like genes and apparel?

Do you have monthly, weekly, etc goals?

Do you just save up for one thing at a time and then go back down to zero?

Tell me about dragon banking, budgeting, and the woes that come with it, I would love to hear how everyone else does it while I try to figure out the best system for myself.

When I'm actually trying to buy stuff I have a system reliant on my fodder dragons. If I exalt this many dragons at this level then I can buy The Thing.

I also just shove all my gems/treasure into the vault rn. I'm saving up for the possibility of getting my dreamie (XXX G1 Mint!) and that's gonna take a while lol

I like to have 200kt and 100g on me at all times, which I consider my spending money, anything over goes to the vault to save up for stuff

I don't really have goals per se, but I have a pretty simple system set up. If I have over 100kt/g out of the vault at the end of the day, everything above that gets vaulted. If it's below 100kt/g, I don't get to spend that type of currency tomorrow. As for taking money out of the vault, I only do so once a week, and take no more than a quarter of my current savings (though I make exceptions for events).

Most of this comes from doing the Fairgrounds daily, brewing and selling eggs, and fodder!

any time i have more than 10-20 gems in my hoard, i store the excess in 10s in my vault. so say i have 62 gems in my hoard, i store 50. this way i still have 12g for small immediate purchases.

i do the same with treasure in increments of 25k, but i have a more flexible hoard amount; i usually keep my hoard treasure around 40-50k.

i'll take treasure out of my vault if i need to, but i very rarely take gems out unless im buying a UMA. the extra step of having to withdraw currency helps me to not impulse buy as much lol

i only buy treasure genes through a dom shop (or when my flight has dominance). i always use dom shops for fest skins. the discounts really add up!

I aim to have 600kT above the next million to be ready for the next festival and also make progress in savings. For example, last festival I ended in the low 1Mt, and I built it up to at least 2.6M for this festival. My goal for next will be 3.6M. This accommodates the ridiculous number (and climbing) of festival skins at their ridiculous prices, lol. Someone quoted that it was about 600kT to get everything.

I don't vault my currency. My goal is seeing the numbers go up and I resist anything that lowers it. Usually I sit on impulse purchases for a few days, and I have my quest $$ needs in the back of my mind, so I only get something new if I've made good progress or I decide I MUST have it.

My "emergency savings" take the form of noc eggs. I'm too impulsive with my actual gems and treasure. With regular currency, I usually am saving up for a goal and occasionally make some impulse buys with dragons, apparel, etc. I buy what I want, go back down to 0, and start the cycle over. I do, however have roughly 9k worth of gems in noc eggs so if I ever really need money I've got it

Scrounge it up like looking for scraps is pretty much my system x3

Instead of using the vault, I buy some fodder before big purchases/exchanges.
That way I'll have at least 20kt after, and I can level them higher if I need to!

If I can't afford it after losing the initial ~14kt I train & exalt them and buy more!
(Not sure why, that's just how my brain wants to do it)


I also hoardsell duplicate materials and trinkets, sometimes fams if I'm desperate :,)


(The only times I actually use the vault for currency is when I have a cr I don't want to dip below, or I'm saving for a lair expansion in the rare event we get dom)

[quote name="ashing" date="2025-04-26 08:08:26" ] I like to have 200kt and 100g on me at all times, which I consider my spending money, anything over goes to the vault to save up for stuff [/quote] same here! i also have a spreadsheet where i keep track of all my projects and how much each of them will cost, and how much of each of them. sometimes i wait until i have a discount or it's a special day or something and then make a bunch of purchases, other times i just see that i now have enough money to finish up one of the cheaper projects and do it. i usually try to knock a project off all at once (at least treasure-wise), but certain projects have been set aside as "if one of the genes for this goes on flash sale i can buy it straight away, and then the price for finishing the whole project will go down". i also keep a tracker for how many fest skins i could afford with the money i have in savings, so that when the fest comes around i'll be able to weigh how many of them i really like versus how much it'll eat out of my funds for the rest of my projects, lol.
