Even as a new player, I’ve seen a lot of mixed feelings about Ancients. I know that apparel is a huge thing for dragon customization. But I’ve found that I actually really prefer Ancients! :)

Especially as someone who’s fallen down the G1 hole, I think that G1 Ancients sometimes require out of the box thinking to make look nice without apparel. Apparel can cover up what makes G1s so fun to work with for me.

The line breaking terms and body shape variation make them so diverse! Moderns feel a bit flat to me in comparison (though I have nothing against them and I’ve seen many truly stunning outfits!) Just wanted to see if anyone agreed!

While I do still have and enjoy plenty of Moderns, I also tend to prefer Ancients! I don't like the 'pressure' seeing an empty apparel box gives me with Moderns, but I also don't have the energy for outfits these days. So Ancients not having the option in the first place is a reliever

yeah I guess you could say I like them a normal amount

also glad my first and second favorite breeds are both ancients so it saves me a fortune on projects that involve buying new genes when ancient genes are all a fraction of the cost

For gene projects? Yeah. Everything being half the cost means I can get one 'finished' in a fraction of the time and spend any leftovers on pretty UMAs for them or the next project. I've also gotten a bit disappointed with modern's selection of genes, especially the terts. Ancients just feel like they have way more options with their more dynamic and interesting linebreakers.

Moderns are nice for what they can do, being able to breed them with whatever and being able to further customize them with outfits are both nice benefits... but the price of trying to fully gene one up just scares me and and I end up stuffing them into my closet to forget about.

Oh, 100%. I find it hard to keep moderns unless they're part of a subspecies or have some other highly specific Look TM that's executed best as they are, because I'm just always going "okay time to regene, how would blossom look, what about octopus/rings, what about moch/rio, what about-"
Moderns just feel,,, so flat without linebreakers, to me. They almost need skins/accents to feel complete, and it's harder to utilize non-matchy terts when I can't just literally take it off the dragon (augment, jewels, eclosion, gnarlhorns... (like I mean yes they're technically part of the dragon bc that's how the site works but like. They're not stuck being read as part of the base coat, you know?))

I definitely prefer ancients. I'm not great with apparel, so I appreciate the heck out of dragons I can make look "finished" without worrying about making an outfit.

im a pretty huge veilspun , everlux + aether fan ^_^ and while i dont MIND apparel its certainly not the main thing i care about when it comes to making my dragons look pretty so ill take the cooler looking genes over it any day

i personally love dragon dress up way too much to get into ancients, but i know plenty of people love them!

What's not to love about unique body shapes and great genes? I don't always have the time or thoughts to put apparel on every. single. dragon, and ancients are much more fun to put skins on imo. Not to mention the cheaper genes.
