the scrying workshop can show you how your guardian (or any dragon) will look with any gene.

once you've found genes you like, you can use the game database to determine how to acquire them. you can also search the auction house to buy genes from other players.

unfortunately, as there's still no ancient/standard toggle you will have to manually sort through results for standard genes.

Guardians are a modern breed and can therefore use any modern gene. Modern genes can be found in the Marketplace under the tab marked with [emoji=modern size=1] and is where you can find most genes. There's a toggle in the MP for items that can be bought with treasure and items that can be bought with gems. The treasure marketplace does randomly stock items, it has a chance to restock every 5 minutes and every 2 hours empties/resets. The items in the gem marketplace are a constant, they won't change randomly. You can brew some genes with Baldwin and you can dig up some genes with Arlo. Baldwin genes are by default for moderns, they have to be exchanged at a shop in order to get the specific ancient versions. Arlo genes are the same way. There's some genes that can be obtained through the coliseum as well. It can be a little confusing but they changed the titles of modern gene scrolls within the last year or so to differentiate them from their ancient counterparts. Modern gene item names go like: Primary Gene: [gene name here] Secondary Gene: [gene name here] Tertiary Gene: [gene name here] So for example Flaunt for moderns: [gamedb item=40640] Whereas an ancient version would also include the breed it's for like: Primary [ancient breed] Gene: [gene name] So Flaunt for Undertides looks like this: [gamedb item=53954] Does that make sense? And yeah, you can try to buy them from other users on the Auction House too. For figuring out what you want for your guardian, I definitely second playing with the scrying workshop for a bit. If you're still not sure you can always make a thread in Dragon Share asking for ideas, plenty of people there would be happy to give you a few ideas.

So for example Flaunt for moderns:
Primary Gene: Flaunt

Whereas an ancient version would also include the breed it's for like:

Primary [ancient breed] Gene: [gene name]

So Flaunt for Undertides looks like this:
Primary Undertide Gene: Flaunt

Does that make sense? And yeah, you can try to buy them from other users on the Auction House too.
