since fathoms just came out i'll share an aquatic animal fact!

Whales/dolphins/porpoise ect. have spines that move up and down, unlike fish that have spines that move side to side. this is because they evolved from a land dwelling mammal that returned to the water!

I recently learned a quick way to soften butter for baking! You can put warm water in a bowl, then put the stick of butter in either a plastic bag (keep it open or push out all the air) or wrap it in plastic wrap and dunk it into the warm water for a few seconds! I did this last week when I forgot to set the butter out a few hours before I made cookies and it worked perfectly :D

A bacronym is when they make up an acronym for an existing word, such as 'non-expanding recreational foam'
A retronym is new word to distinguish an older term from a newer version, such as snail mail.
Protologism is a newly used word that has not yet gotten accepted--let's make fetch happen.

Fun fact: Uranium glass is reactive under UV light, and isn't always the slight green most commonly seen, but under UV light it always fluoresces green.

When the film begins to deteriorate, especially when stored in bad conditions, it releases acetic acid, the main component of vinegar. Because of this, the film actually smells like vinegar. I used to work in a library that housed thousands of microfilm that were used quite frequently. I learned about Vinegar syndrome because one day I was refiling them and I was balancing a pile under my chin and I smelled vinegar. I brought it to my manager and asked about it and he couldn't believe I could smell it through the box. When film starts to release the acetic acid, it needs to be isolated because otherwise it will affect surrounding film!

Did you know that the dinosaur with the most teeth (500)(Nigersaurus) was an herbivore? As a sauropod, it was closest related to Apatosaurus & Brachiosaurus (although it was much smaller compared to its relatives.) Nigersaurus had a uniquely wide, flat head to hold all 500 teeth.
