Cicadas have long been regarded as a symbol of rebirth, immortality, and living one’s life carefree and openly. They live their life largely underground, emerging from the soil to shed their skins and emerge as fully formed adults. Judgement reminds us to grasp moments of rebirth without fear. There is always something grander in store for us should we shed our past selves and embrace what lies ahead. #57 - Type - 10 points Tell us what type of cicada you showed in #56. NOISE
Unfortunately, cicadas find a mate by screaming! Actually they rub their wings, and a special part of their exoskeleton called a "timbal" makes the identifiable clicking sound. Their love "song" can reach 120 dB (as loud as a chainsaw). So, let's make some noise!

CREATIVE USES
Cicadas have no defenses except their sheer number: They are slow, clumsy fliers that do not sting, bite, or hide. Because they are so abundant, many like to find ways to use them or the shells they leave behind.

#55 - Recipe - 15 points
Share a creative "recipe" (doesn't need to be food) that involves cicadas or shells. (No photo required - only the details.)
A FR recreation of this recipe

Ingredients:

36 Behemoth Cicadas
2 Quarts Vegetable Oil (for Frying)
Old Tin Pot

Tempura batter:

¾ Cup milled Grassland Grain
¼ Cup powdered Sweet Potato Vine
8 oz Jar of Slime
1 tbsp crushed Firefly
½ tsp Salt
Wild Onion, Floating Maiden, Golden Pepper powder to taste
1 Wisp Fruit

Prickler Aioli:

½ Cup Wisp Fruit
¼ cup Ashfall Prickler juice
1 tbsp Unstable Serthis Concoction

Heat up two quarts of frying oil in a pot.
Remove the cicada wings then rinse under warm water. Drain and pat dry with a paper towel.
Dip the cicadas one at a time in the tempura batter, and then gently place them in the oil. Cook for 3-5 minutes until golden and crispy. Season and serve with aoli.

BONUS

(from the Oriens Tarot deck)
For fun here's part of the card description:

The cicada lifts its shed shell to the heavens as a wreath of trumpet
vines heralds the offer through the gate. Cicadas have long been regarded
as a symbol of rebirth, immortality, and living one’s life carefree and openly.
They live their life largely underground, emerging from the soil to shed their
skins and emerge as fully formed adults. Judgement reminds us to grasp
moments of rebirth without fear. There is always something grander in store
for us should we shed our past selves and embrace what lies ahead.

Because they are so abundant, many like to find ways to use them or the shells they leave behind. #55 - Recipe - 15 points ok, I'm a little bit of a bug-phobe, so you couldn't get me to actually eat a cicada as such, however I am not opposed to bug-based flours! provided it was safe to eat of course (some bugs, like worms, are not safe without certain preparations because they can contain toxins from their environments) so, it looks like you make cicada flour by thoroughly drying your cicadas and then grinding them into a fine powder - could probably do a lot of this work with a food processor. from there, I found this recipe that seemed intriguing (source)

cream together butter and sugar, plus vanilla extract
to your wet ingredients, add cicada flour, all-purpose flour and baking soda, and mix until dough is cohesive
fold in additives (in the recipe's case, chocolate and nuts)
shape into balls and bake
BONUS In case you were having trouble with a couple of the tasks, here is an alternative to make up the points. Hello, alyblaith here from Nature org team. I am so very tired but I love GG and I love the RLSH. I've been under the weather lately so I've attempted to do as many alternate sources as possible since going outside has been a hassle - don't really mind if they don't all qualify (don't worry Goldia, I'm not expecting credit. Just trying to have fun!

I don't have a bug-themed or bug-loving dragon, so as usual my lair is represented by adventurer-journalist Viola, who has a love of learning about all subjects and therefore would be enthusiastically participating in and recording the cicada confluence!

Cicadas have no defenses except their sheer number: They are slow, clumsy fliers that do not sting, bite, or hide. Because they are so abundant, many like to find ways to use them or the shells they leave behind.

#55 - Recipe - 15 points
ok, I'm a little bit of a bug-phobe, so you couldn't get me to actually eat a cicada as such, however I am not opposed to bug-based flours! provided it was safe to eat of course (some bugs, like worms, are not safe without certain preparations because they can contain toxins from their environments)

so, it looks like you make cicada flour by thoroughly drying your cicadas and then grinding them into a fine powder - could probably do a lot of this work with a food processor. from there, I found this recipe that seemed intriguing (source)
 • cream together butter and sugar, plus vanilla extract
 • to your wet ingredients, add cicada flour, all-purpose flour and baking soda, and mix until dough is cohesive
 • fold in additives (in the recipe's case, chocolate and nuts)
 • shape into balls and bake

BONUS
In case you were having trouble with a couple of the tasks, here is an alternative to make up the points.
(Only 530 are needed for the completion badge, but the maximum possible is 550 with the bonus.)

Just opened my old CD case to a random one and got Vitamin C. I guess it's fitting because it's graduation season. Here's the 1999 music video for a ridiculous throw back with every awful 90s trend you can imagine.

Quote:
#55 - Recipe - 15 points
Share a creative "recipe" (doesn't need to be food) that involves cicadas or shells. (No photo required - only the details.)
I think it'd be kinda cool to make a popcorn garland but with cicadas and put them outside for birds. Might be a little grim to look at but neat.
You'd need a needle and thread. Thread the needle and tie off on one end.
You'd want dried cicadas and then string them along!
