TOPIC | Survey: Retirement of Holiday Familiars
Something else I'm seeing is that the fear of bringing them back "destroys" the fun of the festival, but I don't see how that is when there's not only items to obtain from the festival apart from the familiar, but also when there's no guarantee you'll obtain one during a festival/be here for said festival OR the event where they do come back. It's an added opportunity, not a promise.
EXACTLY. I loved and agreed with everything you said so far. People, just because things would be re-released, doesn't mean the items would become common. You wouldn't be able to buy the "retired" things like you buy things in the marketplace. It would be just another way to keep things coming into the market, to prevent things from getting crazy high prices and for those things to become a little more accessible. Remember that there are many new users now.

I vote for return. As someone who came RIGHT AFTER a holiday AND during a scroll retirement, I was rather disheartened to know I wouldn't be able to get what I was absent for (paying oodles! of money to people who -might- have them, aside). It feels unnecessary to retire them permanently.

I vote for return, though I'm not sure on the method.

It might be nice to see old apparel available as well. =)

Seems to be a good idea.
Seems to be a good idea.
I'm not really suuuureeee...

If you mean by "chance to obtain one in december" if that means only the december in the year of the holiday cycle, or a chance to obtain an old familiar every december.

I would be okay with the former case, but not so with the latter. Just like playing games or breeding dragons, for me obtaining holiday familiars is something I work hard for as an investment that pay off month later. It requires a lot of patience to make a profit - I have no problem whatsoever with a single re-release where people who missed the event (and everyone, really) has a chance to obtain a copy. However, if re-releasing them was a recurrent thing every year, the sprites would never go up in price and lose their appeal.
What is the point of investing time in the festival in that case? You cannot use more than 1 sprite at a time, so unlike the apparel, the only reason I bother with obtaining more than one is as investment.
Sprites would seriously lose their appeal to me if they were not limited in some respect. I applaud the incentive to give everyone a chance to obtain one, but if it is too easy they might as well be a marketplace item, so why create a new cycle every year if they all return anyway? The only reason previous cycles have appeal is because they won't return.

I joined in October. I'm not a huge collector, but going after some desirable items can be fun so I hoarded festival stuff, exalted for profit, traded dragon and stuff for more stuff, and ended up obtaining most of the sprites and past apparel. I find that fun :) It's a challenge.
So actually, I do support the cycling and retiring of items for that reason~ It creates desirable items and adds some challenge to the game.

o.o wow long tangent. Anyway, I'm okay with a one-time re-release, but not a yearly returning thing.

Anyway, that is my humble opinion o.o I know this is a touchy subject and this isn't a popular opinion, so sorry if I stepped on anyone's toes.

Voted for them to return during the December event. I think it would be an addition to the list of things that make the game a bit more fun. I may get flack for this, but I don't think they should be permanently retired just to people can invest on them and use them to make millions in the future. In the end it, when the game is years old, there'd be a heck of a lot of retired holiday items for people to make loads of money off of and I can't really see that as a good thing. Sure, if you're not around when an item is introduced/retired, you're not "entitled" to it later on, but when new items are introduced and retired every month I think a chance to obtain some of them during a special event balances it out nicely.

I agree with most in that I think December would be a good idea. Being a collector type I would love to be able to have all of the familiars, but to be able to buy something like a Light Sprite right now would make a person go broke! It would be great to have other chances.

My two cents - I think they should be permanently retired. If not, then you lose market value over and over and over. Dragon economy is already crap - don't make the item economy crap too.

Bringing back event items for any reason defeats the purpose of making them event items. Every online game has limited items. It's not a punishment to those who can't get online, cause those items are still available through players. Please keep the rare things rare. Limited edition items are only worth the mad grab if they don't come back.

Yes please because the festival items that were retired are so off the charts expensive I can never every hope of collecting those familiars I missed just because I didn't join the day the website opened.

Stupid greed keeps the prices of those familiars so high I that when I think I've finally saved enough, I learn the price has only gone up even more. I've already thrown my hands up in defeat because of it. If there was an opportunity to have a shot at earning those retired festival familiars, even if it was just ONE chance a year to earn ONE retired familiar.... I can't even express the joy and relief into words. I really can't @undel.

@FireSword
Note: this would affect the upcoming June 2014-May2015 familiars only. We are not proposing to bring currently retired familiars out of retirement.
So the previous ones anyone missed up until now will are not part of this poll anyway.
