To understand Rooibos fully, one need only witness the preparation of three cups of tea.

The first cup is for Guidance. Her request comes the hour previous, accompanied by phantom teacups that spin and sparkle around Rooibos's form until the steeping is complete. She asks for his strongest black tea, to see her through the portrayal of grand villain, overthrown. The tea comes in the later hours of the night, only after peace is restored to the kingdom injured by Guidance's story-spinning mind. Soothing chamomile, to calm her nerves and smooth the passage into sleep.

The second cup is for a friend, Contrana and her latest patient. Her request is rushed, almost an offhand comment, as she sweeps through the clan's herb garden. She bundles her medicines faster than Rooibos's ears can follow, while asking for the sweetness of a berry medley, as a treat. In a rare quiet moment in the dealer's den, Rooibos brings a medicinal blend of citrus and mint, as the dealer's wellness must also be preserved. She gives him a knowing look, as he sets the cup on her desk, before returning to the gardens.

The last cup is for himself. His mind spins with new, experimental blends as he draws his wingtips along the many bundles of herbs hanging in his lair. He imagines the vibrant, swirling blues and violets of butterfly pea with lemon, the blossoming chrysanthemums of blooming tea, milk and sugar and honey... He settles on none of these myriad choices, but instead a simply jar of green tea. Grown, picked and dried by his own claws. He spends multiples minutes on his choice of pot, and counts the steeping down to the second. He gifts the first pot to his clanmates, who have no preference, and keeps the second all to himself.

To this day, Rooibos has never served what has been ordered, but always what is truly desired.
