S T O R Y
Silence was born in a vast underground city beneath the Tangled Wood, a place called the Timeworn Depths. It was a flourishing, hidden away city connected to other subterranean territories. Born with damaged vocal cords, Silence and their family had to learn new ways to communicate amongst each other, notably a sort of sign and body language.
Their parents were both powerful gateway mages and scientists, tirelessly working to discover new worlds beyond Sornieth. Silence knew this much, and they also knew that their family was above all else. The Spiral was always poking around in their mother's research, always staring in awe at their father's somatic spellcasting. At their tender age, they could have never guessed what their parents would unleash upon the sprawling city. A great darkness from beyond, through a giant newly-erected portal in the center. The Creeping, a sort of Shade-like infestation from another dimension. It fell upon the Timeworn Depths swiftly, and caused the deaths of hundreds of dragons. The smallest flap of wings alerted the screaming tendrils and awoke its great invincible emperor-like warden - The Keeper. With each new perishing, The Creeping grew stronger and spread farther. Silence and their family survived this culling - using their knowledge of sign language to communicate. There came a day when the Keeper would find them all, consume them, use their bones to fertilize the Creeping... and Silence was the one to step in and plead for the life of their family. The Timeworn Depths were in no condition to live in anymore, but it was all they ever knew. Silence begged with everything they had, offered their whole life to The Keeper... And the pact was formed then and there. A selfish pact to spread the Creeping in all places untouched by it, in return for their family's safety from it. They knew it to be so, but in this state of fear, it was all they had to cling to. Now, Silence lurks the surface, secretly pressing claws to soil and spreading the Creeping wherever they may walk. As the Creeping begins to coil its way around their very soul, they wonder how long it is until they become an all-consuming monster, too...
