The lights dim and in the stillness the crowd holds their breath.
A singular spotlight illuminates the center of the stage. From the pole that the curtains hang from, a profoundly snake-like Spiral dangles, long hair-like feathers in shades of red and black obscuring its face. Still quite upside-down, he spreads his arms out wide, swirling black mists and the shimmer of light off of his metallic scales combining to paint a hypnotizing visage.
"Wastelanders!" The Spiral's voice rings out, light and melodic, carrying a slight Sunbeam accent, and the mists congeal into something opaque, hiding it behind a wall of writhing shadow. "Please welcome the new host of the Scavenger's Rotlands Theatre!"
The mists draw apart to reveal the Spiral -- the ringmaster - now stood on the stage, and he tacks on, "Plaguebringer sanctioned, of course."
"Now," he sighs, with a reasonable dose of dramatics, "Strangers call me Osiris. But friends call me Ozzy."
Its lopsided smile widens into a grin, wolfish and sharp-toothed, like a predator who's caught its prey, as it locks eyes with someone amongst the crowd. "And we're no strangers, are we?"
A few moments pass by in stiff silence until Osiris breaks it with an airy laugh. "Oh, come now!" He giggles, "Why so grim? I jest!"
The crowd gives sparse, awkward chuckles. The tension in the room is so thick it seems to hum, vibrating and expanding by the tick of the clock.
It sobers up in a mere couple of seconds and clasps its taloned hands over one another. "Now, I know what you're all here for. This is a theatre, after all, not a comedy stage. Thus," it beams at the gathered dragons, this time appearing more genuine, "Let the show commence!"
