Malik grew up on land, born to Plague flight, but always unusually preoccupied with the natural world - especially the ocean. When they departed the Scarred Wastelands on the pretense of going on their Search, it was as much an escape attempt as it was a legitimate journey; when they found the Viridian Labyrinth and the Golden Canopy Clan, they knew it was somewhere they could call home.
Still, they weren't quite at ease in the trees, forever drawn to the coastline a few kilometres from where the clan resided, telling fortunes for those who gathered by the shore and worrying about the fate of the Water flight and its missing deity. It was there that they finally started feeling at peace, and there that they met a Maren named Bondi. Malik was instantly fascinated, drawn to the little Maren in a way they couldn't explain, but spending more and more time exploring the shallow seas with him.
Was Bondi their Charge? Malik wasn't sure, but they liked him - a lot. Whether he was to be their Charge or not, they quickly grew close, friendship becoming something else entirely.
Bondi was involved in a search of his own, originally from deeper waters but now part of the cohort working with the dragons to find out what had happened to the Tidelord. Malik promptly joined in too, and when the search brought them to the missing Undertide breed, they swiftly volunteered to work with one of them to learn from each other. Their new companion, Meri, and her Maren brother (brother!) Tilus, quickly became fast friends, and now Malik and Bondi have a whole new source of stories and information to continue their searches.
