The shores of Churnscar Wharf were bustling. Dragons boarded ships, others shopped for food and supplies. Two dragons quarrelled as they examined new homes. The Tundra tried to reason with the Spiral she was with, but he wouldn't stop fidgeting or staring out across the Sea.
“All of these seem nice,” the Tundra, Merriweather suggested, spying the available houses for sale in the Wharf. She kept all of her many eyes closed, except for the two on her face. They didn't freak out Pacific, but other dragons... she wasn't so sure about.
But the Spiral, Pacific, hesitated before answering. “Suuuuuure,” he finally said, his eyes completely round. “But I was thinking somewhere...else?”
Merri now bore a look of confusion. “Somewhere else?” she echoed with concern. “Well...where did you have in mind exactly?”
“Flotsam Town?”
“Flotsam Town...”
“Flotsam Town.”
Merri now started to see him shaking, and she stepped up to nuzzle him, her voice softer this time when she spoke. “Is everything okay?”
Pacific's full attention was now on her, and a wave of guilt washed over him. He never told her how he really felt about Merri's father, Fluffington, or that something just felt...off about him. Nodrake was that friendly, and Pacific knew he had to be up to something, as did the rest of Firebird's Roost.
Merri's childhood home.
But he hadn't told her of his suspicions, because he didn't want her to worry. Instead, he'd convinced her to leave with him.
“Of course everything's okay,” he finally answered with a teeth-chattering smile. “Why wouldn't everything be okay? I just thought Flotsam Town would be nice with real friendly dragons away from all the fire and smoke and DEATH—”
Merri stopped him, nuzzling him again, and giving him a warm smile. “I know you must be anxious. Starting a new life can be scary sometimes.”
“Uh—”
“But we've had a long journey before arriving here. Why don't we stay the night at a motel? I promise we can go to Flotsam Town in the morning, after we've had a good rest.”
Pacific gave in, sighing and nuzzling her in return. The two dragons set off, now searching for a motel with a vacant room. Merri smiled again, to herself this time.
She would find a better time to tell him that she was with egg.

Lore w.i.p. She lets Pacific believe he "saved" her from the Ashfall Waste, but she agreed to leave with him because she loves him, and so that she could look out for him. Working on the Celosia all the time was boring anyway. That Aster character seemed fishy though...
