Vestri and Kyoei are reformed poachers.

It wasn’t that the two liked each other. In fact if it wasn’t for a mutual interest in financial gain, possession of compatible skills and the willingness to do what it takes for a profit — well it would be unlikely that the guardians would be friends. Of course there was no need for friendship or affection to run a successful business endeavor.

Kyoei is vain to a fault but highly skilled in persuasion and manipulation. Many a profitable trade was arranged with the use of her allure and charm. Vestri is a dragon of few words and when he does speak its in a tone that makes it clear he would rather just be left alone. His innate fighting ability and sheer bulk served the enterprise well, particularly when dealing with the more unsavoury members of the underworld.

Together the pair ran an underground black market for illicit items which soon expanded into vicious poaching enterprise. Everything ran smoothly until one day they were caught in the act of moving a shipment of pearls by the light imperial Anasterian. Vestri was quickly defeated in the resulting fight and Kyoei elected to surrender without a struggle. The two guardians were offered a choice. Die at the hands of a righteous imperial or turn over a new leaf and live their days under the watchful eye of Anasterian as members of the Vigilight Clan.

Since that day both have completely set aside their criminal ways. They rarely spend much time together, each finding their own niche within the clan’s community. Kyoei now produces beautiful fodder hatchlings and takes delight in her own appearance. She is apt to laugh if if anyone brings up her past, as she doesn’t feel any remorse for their actions. It was just a “phase in her life” and not really something the beauty dwells on. After all, she lives a life of comfort now.

Vestri is rarely asked questions about the time before he joined the clan, but then he is really spoken to at all given his size and unwelcoming demeanour. He plays the role of quartermaster, keeping track of the clan’s stores and arms. Many wonder if he misses his former life, or if he regrets the cruel things he and Kyoei did. Only the clan leader at the time, Brynn (Vestri's only friend), knows the answer and he keeps it to himself.
