CATHERINE

Uh-oh, looks like this the traveling bard wandered a little too far from her home lair (201762,MiladyAdler) and now she off to see the world! If ever you feel the need to exalt, she'd really appreciate it if you could just return her to the home lair, or to the 'Dragons Off To See The World' thread, here. This is not necessary, but she would be very grateful!

Lost Lute Catherine set off with nothing but the wind on her back and a lute in her hands. She didn't know where the winds would take her, but with a lark's voice and deft claws she would weave song and story just as she was born to do. She wanted naught but to find a place to lay her head and a street to sing her songs to whomever might hear.
Silvermoor

One of her first stops was a port town bustling with life and new promise. She found a good spot on the street and wasted no time performing a song. A few curious eyes drew near and listened to her sing, one aged dragon in particular seemed quite interested and listened off to the side thoroughly enraptured. When she took a break to finish he pulled her aside with a hesitant smile and asked her where she was from. She explained her journey thus far and discovered that this pearlcatcher was a musician as well! Andin had traveled quite a distance in search of a new life and found it here, where he would occasionally perform for the townsfolk. This peaked Catherine's interest and she asked if he would like to try performing with her. Though bashful and a little flustered, the dragon agreed. It wasn't long till they were able to easily play off each other's cues, their voices matching in perfect harmony. They drew in quite a curious crowd and put on a grand performance well into the night. At evening Andin thanked her for a wonderful time, mentioning it had been long since he had performed with another person. Catherine went to bed that day feeling rejuvenated and hopeful for the journey ahead. She lingered at the town a while, singing songs and worked on penning new ones she could use on her journey. Eventually she bid the town goodbye, packing up with her things and set off for her journey.

Crosswind Corner

Catherine's journey would take her far into the Windsinger's territory, drawn to the grassy hills of the Zephyr Steepes by a strange yet enticing song. As she landed close to the rocky outlook facing the ocean, she saw a coatl- glittering in the sun as if her feathers and scales were made up of tiny, fragmented rainbows. She'd heard about the Glittering Chimes before; children of the Windsinger, born from a gift from the Flameforger.

Coatl aren't known for being very good at regular draconic due to the lack of eardrums. While the "song" certainly wasn't something Catherine was used to with all the humming, clicks, and whistles, it was still melodic in its own way. If one sat and listened for long enough, you'd become familiar with the patterns, the rhythms and beats within each 'line', phrased off with a trill that she wasn't entirely sure she would be able to mimic. Several wind chimes were hung from stakes driven into the ground, accompanying the singer with the help of the ocean breeze.

The chime didn't seem to notice Catherine at all, lost in the music. Plucking her lute's strings did illicit a pause as she turned towards her. Catherine told her it was beautiful, and to her surprise, she received a slightly broken "thank you" in response. Some time spent in translation would reveal that the dragon's name was Furin; she had been studying hard to try and learn draconic so she may engage in their songs. The two spent some time conversing, doing their best to communicate despite the language barrier, Furin eager to learn more about the lands in which Catherine hailed from and Catherine interested in Furin's melodies. As the sun set on another day, Furin gave the skydancer a gift; a scroll, written in a different dialect. Furin explained it was a folk song of her kin, and perhaps once she learned it, they could perform together. With an exchange of thanks and a smile, she took off under the evening glow, the wave of her new colorful friend sending her off from the shore.

Cragenmire City

For her next stop, Catherine ended up far to the north in the Earthshaker's realm. Though quite barren, the communities of dragons there were said to be tight-knit and jovial, and she had high hopes to meet another bard. Her prayers were answered with her arrival at Cragenmire City. Approaching the center of the underground city, Catherine couldn't help noticing a song in the air. The voice singing was a deep baritone, holding long, jaunty notes as he performed a sea shanty of all things. Well, that made some sense, she supposed. The city was known for being a travel hub. Following the voice, Catherine came face to face with a raggedy imperial. The bones and beads of his threadbare clothing rattled as he continued belting out a song about lost love, his cap placed upside down on the ground for dragons to give him coinage.

Catherine waited until he'd finished singing to approach, applauding his performance. He introduced himself as Rikuto, calling her a "pretty little lady" and winking, so Catherine got a pretty good read on him right off the bat. She wasn't interested in flirting at the moment, so she ignored it in favor of offering to sing with him. Rikuto didn't seem upset at her non-reaction and agreed to her offer easily enough. Soon, they were both belting tunes - Catherine, ones from her travels, and Rikuto, ones he'd learned from dragons passing through. It was so fun that they didn't stop until late into the night, when Catherine could no longer ignore her drooping eyes. She spent her time in the city exploring in the early half of the day, and performing alongside Rikuto starting in the afternoon, all the way to nightfall. He didn't give up flirting with her, and she was starting to flirt back a bit, but Catherine was soon ready to move on. Bidding her new bard friend farewell, she left only a week after arriving.

Marvelous Meadows

Catherine made it back to the Windswept Plateau just in time for the Mistral Jamboree. She knew the town she was heading to was going to be busy and colorful, as it was famous for its inn, but everything was dialed to 11 because of the upcoming celebrations. She could even see some of the decorations being set up as she was flying overhead. The locals really knew how to make an occasion especially joyful!

During that week many dragons took time off and were wandering the streets looking for fun things to do. The vendors were selling novelty candy and cute trinkets that they claimed would bring good luck (Catherine ended up buying one). But the true crown jewel was, of course, the inn. Beautifully decorated both inside and out, it was open for all visitors and various shows were held throughout he week. To Catherine's luck, they even invited the travelers to join in, if they felt so. That's how she ended up on the stage, playing for the inn's designated dancer. It was a hoot! In the end, the inkeepers gave her a discount on her stay, so long that she would keep helping out with the performances.

Even during her brief time on stage Catherine would constantly spot new faces. Most of them didn't linger in her mind for too long, but towards the end of the week she saw a very eye-catching dragon in the crowd. Her entire coat was glistening, as if made of solid gold, but most of all she looked very young and somewhat confused about everything. So, Catherine waited until it was time for the visitors to join in for the final dance of the night and personally invited the dragon she had her eye on.

Afterwards they struck up a conversation. Maiele turned out to be a wandering dragon as well, but her story was much more sad. It didn't sit right with Catherine that a dragon would feel the need to escape their clan at such a young age, and she felt like she had to help her fellow traveller somehow. At first it was simply helping Maiele get set up at the inn.

The inn manger must've seen dollar signs when she laid eyes on Maiele, so she was soon offered a bit of chores in exchange for an extended stay. She'd simply have to usher the guests inside and Catherine would help the innkeepers entertain them. After the celebrations started winding down, they also stuck around for the cleaning, and even got to keep some of the decorations for themselves. Between all of their work there, of course, was good conversation to be had.

Then there was quiet. The inn still wasn't silent or still, but it seemed like the building itself was tuckered out from the rowdy celebration. The locals half-heartedly went back to work, the tourists would just lounge around the lobby, barely daring to go outside. Seeing how things were going, Catherine started to plan her next journey. To her surprise, as she was looking at the map of the vicinity, Maiele approached her.

"Where are you going to go next?" she asked, eyeing the map.

"I don't know yet, but I'd like to end up somewhere I've never been. So maybe East would be good?"

"Don't look at me for advice!" Maiele chuckled awkwardly. "You know I've only been to the Plateau... And, well, the caves but that doesn't count."

"Would you like to change that, though? You could tag alone with me, if you'd like."

And boy did Maiele like the idea! Her entire face lit up with excitement and disbelief. Catherine, meanwhile, was relieved that she accepted so easily. After all, there's many upsides to travelling together, even for an experienced dragon.

SONGS

Your one true love's a sailing ship
That anchors at our pier.
We lift her sails, we man her decks,
We scrub her portholes clear;

And yes, our lighthouse shines for her,
And yes, our shores are warm;
We steer her into harbor-
Any port in a storm.

The sailors stand upon the docks,
The sailors stand in line,
As thirsty as a dwarf for gold
Or centaurs for cheep wine.

For all the sailors love her,
And flock to where she's moored,
Each man hoping that he might
Get down, all hands on board
