discomfort swells, eh?
it is the middle of the night
starless midnight, clock strikes twelve
stingy husbandry in heaven, light is faint
darkness prospers, spreads like tumours

he is dressed like death itself
pale and pallid, swallowed in inky silk
almost clear eyes pierce in the gloom
stalking, dust and mist for camouflage
unruly night, owl hawks a predatory falcon,

hunted hawks hunter, killed in unnatural parallels
the dragon notices, claw by claw he goes
like a hell-hound he moves, spell impending doom
where he goes, slowly, so slowly
for whatever reason, it is unsaid

feel the wind rush, he pounces
claws scrabble dirt, frantic jerking
he breaks the necks of the birds
a sardonic noise escapes from him,
a little splinter of pleasure in the mix.
