Unthinkable; he may have left their birth clan on good terms, but he could never admit they were right, in a way

It had long been almost a point of pride, not taking a mate, whether his childhood friend or any of the number of dragons they'd encountered on their travels together. He felt almost above the others; while they devoted their time and worries to impressing others, to assuring connections, he contented himself with his Search, and then to ensuring the safety of the wanderers settling within his territory- and then the gaoler band arrived

Accustomed to both combat and following orders, Ahkrin quickly secured a place at Nahfahlaar's side in keeping the borders secure. If forced to guess when his view of the older Sentry shifted from 'respectable battle partner' to an uncharacteristically soft fondness, he might pin it on countless nights nesting side-by-side in the Scorched Forest, wings tucked in close against the midnight chill. Memories of quiet talks under the smoke-shielded stars make the world feel just a bit softer, a bit lighter, than he'd ever expected
