“Many of our deities were born of struggles, war and hardship. It should not be surprising that such pain transcends into the generation of dragons and beasts.”

——————————-
Sunspot Clouddancer Sunbeam Rotala Daisy Flowerfall
Infamously elusive, she minimises contact with her lairmates, instead finding solace in spending time her familiar. Since the Sunspot Clouddancer - she calls him Fluffy - is incredibly aggressive, Ira will often not mate with any dragon that does not earn the favour of her most cherished companion.

Though the founder of the clan, Ira quickly took the opportunity to force leadership down to others. She is content simply as a member of the clan. She is revered by her family, though without knowing, as she has withstood the most hardships in order to reach where she is today.

She is most fond of her own familiar, but as manager of the clan Bestiary, she has a soft spot for all species.

She is currently training under Saphir so that she can travel more and meet more new species.

She herself also teaches many young dragons, the ways of a Beastkeeper. These interns are much needed as the bestiary keeps expanding. Ira may be a wise dragon, but she is not capable of tending to that many creatures.

The dragon nudged at her egg, finding that something heavy and dark pressed against her soft cage. With sharp beak, she finally tore through the white membrane to find that she was in a cavern of sorts. Now a hatchling, she was blind in the darkness, until her wet eyes blinked away newborn fatigue. Around her were rings and lengths of something warm and hard. In some places the walls were soft, while in others, they were like shingles made of rock. Sometimes when she touched her nose to them, they crumbled away in black dust. As she squeezed past, she found an egg draped under a membrane, dark and translucent. The egg on one side was charred, and its shell had been shattered by the ceiling that held it tight. She peeled away at the egg to find a breathless dragon. A Wildclaw, its face was mangled by burns and the notable claw looked only sickeningly large against the small curled up fetus. It seemed to glow with a silver sheen.

She sniffed at it, and not understanding what it was, stepped over and moved on.

She escaped the cavern once she passed the membrane, and the world was bright. She turned her head to look back, to find that the cavern was a large molten corpse, charred and indiscernible. Moving along the body, she found inside a tapering tail, another egg, as if the muscle were a makeshift nest. Its shell top was covered in ash, dust sprinkling down as she moved towards it warily. She thought it shivered with life, but it was only the wind shaking it. She peeled away the shell of this egg too. It was many times larger than her, but she broke through. A tail hung out, a tuft of long hair covered in the egg's watery insides. As she continued, a body slumped out. An Imperial dragon, it was lifeless as well, its silver hide looking dull and like cold granite.

For days she cried - for the dragons she never could awake nor meet, and for her solitude. She mourned by the immense boulder of the dead Imperial mother, and slowly grew weak, as the day stripped her of moisture, and the night of her hope.

Feeding on the remains of her mother, Ira regained her strength. The flesh was stringy and charred, but she felt the urge to survive, despite the lifeless plains around her. With no animals or plants around, meat was the only option. It took only a few days for the bodies to rot, but Ira had moved on by then, resolved to escape the wasteland.

She peered over the horizon and saw smoke, flames, bright black rocks with orange cracks. It was too fiery for her, too reflective of the conditions of her birth. She scanned the horizon, squinting against the sun, and saw in the distance a faint shine of rippling dark water. The sun beat down upon it, and it shone a blinding white. She turned around and around, but nothing pleased her eye, and only hurt.

Aimlessly, she turned away from the Ashfall Waste and the Sea of a Thousand Currents, and ventured deeper into the shrubland.

***

By day, her mouth was parched, and her skin dried out, feathers, too, drooping and pale. By night, her thin frame could not keep her warm and she huddled against cacti trying to escape the sandstorms. It had been several weeks since she had last eaten, and she weakly moved about when gusts of wind did not howl at her, and when sand did not whip her. She accepted her fate, and imagined herself in the pile of her family's corpses. She wished she had not left, for out here, she would die alone.

***

Savagely, the Clouddancers battled, wings furiously beating, and talons swiping at each other's faces. Like dust devils they trashed violently and in the midst of their battle, noticed not the starving Skydancer concealed by a layer of dust. They tripped over her and disregarding her as a rock continued their brawl. Only til they were beaten and panting, with ruffled feathers and clipped wings did they see a young dragon staring at them. With glazen eyes she looked at the Clouddancers and soon collapsed once more, stirring up a cloud of sand and pebbles.

Fluffy is currently on vacation. He was a bad boy and did some things to Ira's daisies.
