Overview
It’s nearing twilight in the rainforest, and the faint, bluish light reflects off of a small waterfall, streaming down into a clear pool surrounded by moss. The heat of the day is dissipating, cooling the humid air. A few shiny green and blue insects buzz around, landing on leaves and blending in with the dewdrops. The moon is rising in the lavender sky, and stars are beginning to peek out. Birdcalls sound from the canopy above. The Skydancer sits quietly within a cluster of plants, observing the scene while trying not to disturb it. She watches a hummingbird with a shimmering throat sip from a trumpet-shaped flower. She looks concentrated, but peaceful, her antennae slightly raised so she feel the emotions wafting around her.

Mazarine is a very empathetic dragon, which can be both a benefit and detriment. Her emotional sense is stronger than the average Skydancer, making her experience of others’ emotions more intense She is good at connecting with others and understanding what they’re going through, but negative feelings can be overwhelming to her, as well as there simply being too many emotions in a space at once. Thus, Mazarine prefers staying out of large crowds, although this isn’t a situation that crops up too often, given that she lives in a small clan. She often has trouble distinguishing the emotions of others from her own. She likes helping others, including dragons and other living beings, but can find herself in over her head when she takes on too much responsibility at once. She can also be overly nosy when trying to help someone and get to the root of their problems, and feels guilty when she accidentally crosses a line.

Mazarine loves nature and natural magic, and has had a lot of curiosity and wonder over it ever since she was young. She is also artistic, and enjoys painting and writing poetry, especially when overwhelmed by emotion, whether she’s inspired by wonder or venting anxiety.

Being a Nature Flight Skydancer, Mazarine is more sensitive to the emotions and magical energy of non-dragon beings, such as plants and other animals; however, her emotion sense, like that of other Skydancers, is mostly tuned to the emotions of other dragons, so she rarely gets overwhelmed from being around non-dragons, since her sense of their emotions is fainter. Her Nature magic mostly manifests through her senses, such as being able to detect the health of an ecosystem or an individual organism (this works the best with plants) by tuning into it magically.

Past
Mazarine was born as an only child to kind parents, with no other eggs in her clutch. She was raised in the Skydancer flock, and had a happy childhood there. She was always curious about nature and the emotions of others, and, as a young child, her curiosity was sometimes taken too far, and she would end up crying (or squeakily screeching, in the case of a young Skydancer) from being bitten by an animal who she got too close to, or from feeling an overwhelming rush of emotion from accidentally hurting someone and feeling their pain.

She had a very difficult time distinguishing her emotions from others’ when she was young, and this made her averse to interacting with other dragons too much, despite not being “shy.” She was a very emotional child herself, and would sometimes have outbursts or break out crying at things that others may find trivial. As Mazarine grew, her parents taught her how to to calm her emotions and distinguish them from the emotions of others, although she still has trouble doing so on occasion.

Present
When Crow came to the flock, Mazarine was late in her teenhood, around the same age as him. Mazarine immediately felt bad for him, sensing that he was afraid, lost, and confused, but he didn’t want to open up about why. She made it her mission to get him to open up, since, every time she was around him, she could sense his pain. She wanted him to feel better…and, maybe, a little, it was because she wanted to not feel his fear every time he was around.

Mazarine began to approach him, trying to get him to open up about his past and his worries so that she could help him. She approached him gently, but he remained aloof for the most part, and slightly uncomfortable with the new setting that he’d suddenly found himself in. Mazarine decided to take it slowly, and they grew more comfortable with each other, with her helping him to get adjusted to his new life and answering questions he had. They discovered that they shared a curiosity about the world and everything in it, and had some common interests, such as and traits, such as preferring to have a few close friends rather than mingle with crowds.

After spending more time together, Crow began to open up more, which Mazarine became excited about. Emboldened by their progress, she asked a question that she thought was important to get to understand him, in a vulnerable moment where they were comfortable with each other. Crow was made very uncomfortable by the question, and it broke his trust of her. He snapped at her, and Mazarine felt very guilty, and avoided interacting with him closely for quite a while afterward, worried that her presence would only make him feel worse.

During this time, Mazarine rethought her relationship with him. A lot of her time was being sunken into helping him, and, although he was steadily becoming happier, his mood was rubbing off on her. She realized that she wasn’t making many other friends outside of Crow, and his worries were occupying too much of her mind. She did her best to let go of the guilt, and branch out to explore more friendships and hobbies outside of trying to help him. She missed him, as they had grown close and had unique perspectives about each other, but for now, Mazarine found happiness and discovered herself elsewhere. She realized that she wanted to return to being friends with Crow, but as friends, who respected boundaries and were in it for the enjoyment of being in each other’s company, rather than for the sake of a goal.

With them now both being young adults, Mazarine approached Crow once more and apologized for her past pushiness. She explained how she’d grown, and tentatively asked if they could be friends again. It can be better this time. They eased back into a friendship, with both of them having matured and relaxed. Mazarine learned to respect Crow’s boundaries and view him as a friend rather than a nut to crack, and continued to discover new friendships and hobbies. Their ability to sense one another's emotions helped them understand each other, now that Mazarine was learning how to distinguish her emotions from those of others, and Crow was learning how to use his emotional sense rather than shutting it down.

Future
Through mutual learning and perseverance through bumps in the road, Mazarine and Crow’s friendship endured. Crow became much more open about his troubles, and while he remained reserved and quiet for the most part, he was happier and unashamed to make mistakes, joke around, and be his nerdy, imperfect self. Meanwhile, Mazarine learned more about how to create her own boundaries, knowing where they were in relation to those of others. They grew to trust each other with their secrets and worries.

Eventually, after several years of growth, Mazarine started to feel a fondness for Crow that was different from friendship, but she didn’t want to push the idea of a romantic relationship upon him if he didn’t want one. She remained quiet about it, until he approached her with the idea. She was happy that he felt the same way, and they became partners. This was a strange new thing to navigate for both of them, but they made their way through the confusion and anxiety.

Mazarine has a lovely singing voice! She’s very conscious about it, though, so she only sings at night when she thinks the rest of her clan can’t hear her.

(I was listening to Enya at the moment, so that’s her voice claim.)

I am super proud of her! The second geneing project that I've finished, and the first with a gem gene. Completed 10/26/21

Please ignore the first four dragons in her offspring list; they are not canon to her lore.

Lore ideas
* Mazarine is good at singing, but not at dancing; this is rather embarrassing to her, being a Skydancer, but she rolls with it
* She likes collecting leaves, rocks/gems, feathers, and other interesting stuff she finds
* She is deeply sensitive to magic, emotions, and nature, and can be overwhelmed when there's too much emotional energy
* She is caring about other dragons, and sometimes doesn't know where comfort zones end and asks questions that are too personal or uncomfortable; feels embarrassed and guilty whenever she realizes that she crossed a line
* Creative, smart
* Somewhat introverted in that large crowds overwhelm her and she doesn’t often interact with a lot of dragons at once; however, she is friendly toward new dragons who she meets and tries to interact with them
- Very empathetic, to the degree that it’s a detriment to herself at times when she’s surrounded by too much negative energy or hearing about too many bad events
