Auspice
The Sibyl
It all started with the flashes. Of memories and faces that were not her own. Knowledge of both future and past events would come to her when she least expected it. It was overwhelming. It was frightening. She wanted it to stop.

Auspice had been a powerful sibyl since she was born. Always babbling, even when she couldn’t form the words to describe what she could see. Those around her found her annoying at best and cursed at worse. She had to learn to sign in order to combat her ever talking mouth.

 Auspice had never known the sound of silence and it showed. She was behind on her education as she needed to be tutored on her own lest the other children not be able to hear the teachers. The only tutor who cared about Auspice was her embroidery teacher. She had trouble expressing herself, both with her words and with her hands. Her tutor believed that the girl would be able to communicate through pictures and in turn tapestries. Auspice took to the artform like a fish to water. Her powers still prevented her from using words within the works as she would be compelled to go over them in the opposite direction, making them untranslatable. On the other hand, the pictures she created were like a window into her mind.

When she finally left her old home, she had become an expert embroiderer. She donned a cape which depicted her life story and set off to see the world. Along the way, a man caught her eye. He had started to follow her from one village to another, always appearing in the same tavern as her. When she finally confronted him, he said that his name was Lux and he had been enraptured by her cape since the moment he saw it. He had been following her in order to figure out the meaning behind it. Auspice did not understand why this man wanted to get to know her story so badly, but she humored him each night by telling him a portion of her life. By the time they hit the current portion of the cape, they were madly in love with each other. They traveled together until they came to rest in their current home, where they teach their children to embroider their stories lest they be unknown.
